A clinical psychologist is someone who dedicates his or her career to bringing these pieces together. With knowledge of each puzzle piece, a clinical psychologist works among people with emotional health to physical health ‒ using various methods to construe the puzzle. Becoming a clinical psychologist can be a rewarding career, both for the psychologist and the patient, despite the highly competitive and intense educational program. It takes about five to seven years, plus a one-year internship, and continuing education is required. The two doctorates available are a PhD in psychology or a Doctor of Philosophy in psychology and a PsyD or a Doctor of psychology. A proof of coursework is imperative in many states. The educational requirements are little bit different. If the person wants to be a school psychologist, the person will need to complete a master's or specialist degree, pass the teacher certification test, and may need an internship. In order to be called a clinical psychologist, he or she must have a graduate degree in some form of psychology. The key step is to “obtain a doctoral degree in psychology, accrue supervised hours (typically 1500-6000 hours), pass the EPPP and jurisprudence exam, and to receive approval by the state licensing board” (American Psychological Association). Salary is a valuable asset in every workplace. The salary of a clinical psychologist depends on the experience, knowledge, and location of the clinical psychologist. The median national annual salary for clinical psychologists is $68,900, based on the 2016-2017 Occupational Outlook Handbook from the BLS (All Psychology Schools).
