Relationship Between Artifact and APS (analysis level): The long-range science plans created in Teaching Science in the Elementary School, effectively outlines a plan of action for reaching the end of the year academic goals in science. The long-range plans encompass student information that is imperative to know when planning instruction, developmental goals, the state standards that will be covered, the approximate amount of time it will take to cover the standards, assessment guidelines, and a plan of action for successful classroom management. This portion of the long-range plan clearly states what students will be able to demonstrate at the end of the year and list the types of assessments that will be utilized to directly measure whether the objectives were met. This guideline is the itinerary for the classroom. This tool allows the teacher to adjust when needed to differentiate instruction for students who may need additional help to reach mastery of the skill. The completion of this document allows an effective teacher to guide her instruction so that they academic goals are met at the end of the year. Furthermore, to ensure academic success, an effective teacher has a plan of action in place to run an effective, efficient classroom. The classroom management plan is outline in the long-range science plan. In order for students to be successful, classroom management has to be a top priority for effective teachers. I recently visited the American History museum and came upon the most interesting artifact in the Lighting a Revolution section within the Transportation and Technology wing of the museum. This artifact is an advertisement from Charleston, South Carolina in 1769 about the selling of “a choice cargo” of two hundred and fifty slaves.
Organization and advancework are essential skills that teachers, especially new ones, must use to ready themselves for life in the classroom. Curriculums may change, policies may shift, technology will continue to advance and unpredictable problems or crises will happen. While a management plan will not prevent problems from impacting the classroom, creating a flexible and adaptable one can give teachers a stronger sense of confidence in their work and ability because they have thought ahead for solutions to address them. The goal is to set up an environment for supportive learning that is friendly, safe and effective; an environment where the students’ success and achievement is the focus; an environment where both the students and teacher will feel more like citizens than tourists of their own classroom (Freiberg, 2005).
Cloran (n.d.) suggest teachers need to have a broad understanding of giftedness and learning disabilities, a variety of identification measures and the ability to modify the curriculum and implement differentiated teaching strategies to meet the unique needs of all students. A graduate teacher recognises that students learn in their own way and should understand and be able to identify a number of teaching strategies to differentiate and meet the learning needs of all students. They may create groups based on previous assessment results and set clear or modified instructions for each group based on ability or learning styles. To address the specific learning needs of all student abilities, multi-sensory strategies using charts, diagrams, outside lessons and videos, as well as posters around the room or information on the desk could be used. Tomlinson (1999) suggests that differentiated instruction aims to build on student’s strengths and maximize their learning by adjusting instructional tasks to suit their individual needs. Ensuring teaching and instructions are clear, revising and prompting students during lessons and providing templates and assisting student in breaking down tasks into achievable, systematic chunks are some additional examples. Lucas, (2008) suggests highlighting key vocabulary within the text to focus students on the central concepts within the text. Cultural artifacts can be seen as a good and bad thing; depending on your generation or how you look at how the artifact being used. My personal philosophy of classroom management focuses on creating an environment where children feel safe and where they feel like they belong. I will create this environment for my fourth grade class through making my expectations of the students clear while developing an engaging lesson plan and personable interactions with my students. I developed my philosophy from studying different theorists and based my philosophy on the theories of Glasser and Kounin. Glasser believed that the teacher’s roll in the classroom is that of a leader rather than a boss. He believed that students should be given power in the classroom and that the teacher should share it with the students. I will use his ‘7 caring habits’ specifically supporting and respecting to help my classroom feel safe and welcoming to my students. Meeting the individual needs of my students will be the focus of my classroom management routine. I will meet individual needs by promoting self management and self efficacy in my students by creating an environment that that has predictable and consistent daily routines while focusing on my student’s successes (Shindler, 2010). Having a predictable routine will encourage a success oriented environment and will reduce anxiety and help towards creating positive self efficacy in each of my students (Shindler, 2010). In Glasser’s Choice Theory he talks about focusing on the present and not bringing up the past (Glasser, 2010). Artifact 1: Artifact 1, under Tab C: Curricular Content Knowledge, the Instructional Plan Module, completed during ELSE 6193 Laboratory Experience was completed. For the Instructional Module, candidates were to create and teach two lesson plans for both elementary and secondary instructional settings. The lessons plans were to address one or more of the goals and objectives that were written in each student’s Individual Education Program (IEP). The candidates were to describe in detail the adaptations and modification that were needed for the target students to be able to fully participate in each lesson. Additionally, each lesson plan was to incorporate some type of technology.
Archeology is the study of human behavior, development and origin and it provides a better understanding of man’s past. Some individuals are very excited to participate in this area of study. Archeology is a way to learn about the history the Earth that includes human civilizations and geological changes. While exploring the world, archeologist use different methods to find the answers to many of humanities questions. To have a better understand of the field of archeology, one needs to know the educational and skills required, career opportunities, and the future of archeology.
Since then, Basic Principles of Curriculum and Instruction has been a standard reference for anyone working with curriculum development. Although not a strict how-to guide, the book shows how educators can critically approach curriculum planning, studying progress and retooling when needed. Its four sections focus on setting objectives, selecting learning experiences, organizing instruction, and evaluating progress. Readers will come away with a firm understanding of how to formulate educational objectives and how to analyze and adjust their plans so that students meet the objectives. Tyler also explains that curriculum planning is a continuous, cyclical process, an instrument of education that needs to be fine-tuned.
The lessons contained in this unit of instruction were based upon Madeline Hunter’s Seven Steps of Lesson Plan Formatting. This lesson plan format is a proven effective means for delivering instruction. When designing lessons, the teacher needs to consider these seven elements in a certain order since each element is derived from and has a relationship to previous elements. It should be noted that a lesson plan does not equal one class period. Throughout the course of the lesson, it may take multiple sessions before the student is ready to independently practice the skills learned. Anticipated lesson duration is included with each lesson plan provided in this instructional unit. Madeline Hunter’s Seven Steps of Instruction includes stating the objectives, anticipatory set, teacher input, modeling, checking for understanding, guided practice, and independent practice (Hunter, 2004). For the purpose of this instructional unit, input and modeling have been condensed into a streamlined event; as well has, checking for understanding and guided practice. This form of lesson planning is preferred within the Elkin City Schools district and lends itself to the creation of engaging lessons.
In China, there are some traditional artifact become more and more popular in the recent years, such as ancient Chinese painting, Chinese calligraphy, and some Buddhist stuff, which can be enjoyed and studied during the free time. I think some of them will be popular in other countries, too. Because globalization is an unstoppable process, based on the evolve of internet and transportation, people can know other countries’ culture, people can go to any country in sever hours, the earth just like a community. Some people think that globalization produce too much negative influence, such as the gap between the rich and the poor, and it will damage the local culture in some cases, but in my opinion, globalization is a inevitable result, nobody can stop it, an there are more positive influence than the negative, for instance, the growth in the economy and tourism, both of them can produce more job opportunity, and communication and transportation between cultures is the most important aspect, so that we can have such a colorful world. America is an example, as we all know, America is a country of immigrant, we can find almost all the races of people in the country, any culture might be popular in this country, black man’s dance, Japanese sushi, so I believe that Chinese painting might be popular in America and other countries.
Classroom management has the largest effect on student achievement, so students cannot learn in poorly managed classroom. Additionally, research has pointed out that the quality of teacher-student relationships is the main aspect of classroom management.(…2). In this essay, I will talk about the components of a lesson plan, the benefits of planning with clear and appropriate goals, selecting age-appropriate goals and objectives that align with state academic content standards, and selecting goals and objectives that are differentiated for varying abilities and learning styles and for multiple intelligences.
I believe Classroom Management is the main component in the educational setting. I believe if students are in a safe environment, then learning can take place. This doesn’t mean punishing behavior problems but rather a combination of setting the tone in a class, preventing behavior problems with interesting and engaging curriculums and effectively including all students in the classroom so that their needs are met. Having the right environment for all students to learn is my major goal of implementing good classroom management--without it the students would not be able to learn.
Classroom management is the foundation of education at all levels. Optimal teaching and learning require an environment conducive to learning through structure, support, organization and guidelines. Classroom layout, routines and procedures as well as a carefully thought out discipline system are the core elements of my classroom management strategies.
