For everyone leadership means something especial. For some people leaders are those who can inspire, control, sometimes organize them, for others leaders are the most honest persons. There is no individual who never met at least one leader in their life. For someone the first leaders are parents or other relatives, for other teachers or coaches. I am that person who met the first leader in the training arena. For me leader is a person who always can support people without any pressure, who will never force other to do what they want.
My first leadership story begins when I was ten years old. At that moment I just started to do athletics. My athletics trainer was the first leader. her name was Elena. She was a young woman, around 30 years old. I still remember each detail of her face, short and dark hair, her voice, and of course her incredibly strong personality. I didn’t like athletics for a long

However, Elena over persuaded me because she was the biggest authority for me. She could say just one word to make that effect on me what she wants. There was not any “no, I do not want, or I am tired” for her. Whereupon, I started to enjoy training so much, I was waiting for them with such excitement. I used to train alone, that is why she had many opportunities to ay me as much attention as I will demand. It was the first time in my life when I understood that whenever you are, there would be two groups of people, followers and leaders, who always inspire others to achieve their goals. For Elena it was enough to look at me to inspire me. She never shouts, she is always calm and confident. Thus, my trainer for me was the excellent example of a good leader.
Once upon the time, at the regular training I was practicing the long jump, what was an absolutely new technique for me. Because before I was just running along the path with barriers. The long jump requires from athletes to combine speed, strength, and readiness
I first encountered the significance of leadership in the tenth grade. Berry College the largest campus in the U.S. was in search of school ambassadors to serve part in a seminar known as HOBY. To get chosen you had to write an essay describing your leadership roles, and at that moment I thought that I did not have any. I literally did not know what it meant to be a leader. I had to brainstorm till I remembered going through one of the most difficult times of my life. The lack of understanding the English language became one of my biggest obstacles, and even caused me to repeat a chapter of my life. However, I did not cease; I continued to fight and strove to help others who were susceptible of following my steps. I used my story as an example, and hoped that it would make a difference in someone else’s life.
A leader is described as a person who guides others and has authority and influence over others. They work to influence others into meeting certain goals. There is no right or wrong definition of a leader and there is no recipe that ensures effective leadership. Successful leaders have a good balance of vision, influence, and power. Leaders gain their authority from their ability to influence others to get the work done; because of this, anyone has the potential to be a leader. (Finkelman. 2012, p15)
As a young principal, I wish someone had sat me down, unscrewed the top of my hard head, and poured some common sense into my empty skull. I would have been a better leader if they had. However, I had to learn about leading through trial and error with, unfortunately, more error than I would like to admit. I now realize what many of my colleagues and staff could have told me years ago if I had been inclined to listen – I blew it as often as I got it right. Looking back at those early years, I am thankful to those who mentored me and supported me even when I could have done it better. They helped me realize that leadership is not something you just do; leadership is a journey, and learning from your mistakes is as much a part of leadership as getting it right – maybe even more so.
Leadership is all about having the right amount of heart and determination to help make a difference in someone’s life. It takes certain qualities to be considered a good leader. A leader should want to help inspire others to make a change and to be the best that they can be. A true leader does not need to feel powerful, instead they empower those around them. Throughout my life I have come across various leaders who have made an impact on my life. It takes a very special person to inspire and touch people’s lives. Leadership is so much deeper than having power and bossing people around.
There are many different ideas about what it means to be a good leader and what the leadership means. In a simple explanation, leadership is a technique that an individual influence a group of people to achieve a common goal. A good leader can be a supervisor, manager or a business owner. Leaders are people who have expertise in achieving goals, no matter what their job titles are. Leadership is about coping with change. In a modern age we live, especially in the twentieth century, “more companies are looking for people with great leadership skills” because they can solve problems (2015, P. 13). In my idea a good leader has a vision and motivation to a team so that they can work together toward achieving
In my first story I want to dive into the many faces/characters that I played in my professional career. I have had numerous ups and downs when it comes to finding my leadership identity and in this story I want to touch on a couple of those instances.
I believe that there are many meanings to the word “leadership”. There is not just one way to describe it. It can be such a powerful and influential thing. Leadership has an impact on everyone’s lives whether they realize it or not. It doesn’t matter what you do, leadership has an impact on your life in some way or another. To me, the definition of leadership would be a person who chooses to lead. Someone who is confident in there decisions, works well with others and it capable of motivating people to take on tasks that they might normally find impossible. They also have to be someone that people respect and would be willing to listen to. Leadership also means that you have to take a risk. A leader never knows exactly what is going to happen and sometimes things may not work out for the best. When this happens the leader is usually to blame. This is just one of the many risks a leader must take when he or she chooses to lead. A leader must also be understanding and open to the people around him. Just because they are the leader does not mean that they have to do it alone. A leader should always be willing to listen to those around him and take into consideration the thoughts and ideas of others. One of the last things a leader must be willing to do is accept failure. It doesn’t matter when or where but at some point a leader will fail. This does not mean that they give up and pass the role of leader on to someone else; it means that they learn from it and use it as a lesson for the future.
I have been a leader in several different occasions but there is a certain one that really sticks out. The one that really sticks out to me is being the president of a club at my junior college at Lincoln College which is located in Lincoln Illinois. The club is called Rotaract which is the college name for Rotary. I was the president for one academic year then I passed it onto an underclassmen named Zoe.
According to Shockley and Zalabak (2009) "Leadership is a process of guiding individuals, groups, and entire organization in establishing goals and sustaining action to support goals.Leadership is like mapping out where you need to go to win". A Leader is a person who has a strong personality and who has an ability to manage people and work. He is also the person who is able to direct people .Usually a leaders has a lot of attributes that
Leader is person who leads the people towards the goal the by its meaning is one who goes first and leads the team towards the objectives of the goal. Leadership comes from listening to the people and that will be the important point for a person who wants to be a leader. To be a leader he must have a deep commitment towards the goal and always motivate the people to achieve it.
When we work together in a team, or in a broader sense as a society, the leader takes on the most important role. It is the leader that helps prioritize activities and direct people’s thought process in the right direction. They are the ones who have the ability to bring the group together as a whole. Because of this, not anyone can be a leader. Only people with certain qualities and abilities are able to fill this role. So what makes a good leader? There is a defined path and specific characteristics that makes someone a good leader.
My personal leadership journey began at the age of eleven, and is still continuing to this day. Thus far it has hit many roadblocks, and I certainly have a long way to go before I will truly consider myself a successful leader. I have struggled with self-confidence and have failed to speak up many times, and no doubt will continue to do so for some time. My current obstacle in my leadership journey is learning to believe in myself. Once I conquer that task, I am looking forward to improving my leadership skills in several areas using both the authentic leadership style and the situational leadership style.
How can someone be classified as a leader? What makes them a good leader? What steps did they take to become a leader? How can I take those same steps to be considered a leader? These are questions that come to mind when I am asked, “What type of leader do I want to be?” Many people may consider themselves leaders, but not all of them are good leaders. There is a good saying that you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink, which shows everyone may not be an effective leader, as they should. Dictionary.com’s top definition for the word leader is a “person or thing that leads.” This is a very broad definition since it shows no inclination of what is being led or how it is being lead. There are four types of leaders, “Adaptive, Transformational, Transactional, and Situational.
What is leadership? Leadership is defined as a process by which a individual will influence others to obtain goals. Leaders will guide, direct motivate, or inspire others. Leadership is defined by not only traits but actions as well. Leaders are inspirational, trustworthy and charismatic. Many people may think a manger is leader. Although leadership and management go hand in hand, they are not the same. Everyone has their own beliefs about what characteristics an effective leader should have. To me, communication skills, critical thinking skills, and having a vision are few characteristics of becoming an effective leader. A leader is not only born, but made. Some are born as leaders or some are made to be leaders.
Leadership can be defined in so many different ways and all of them could be correct as it relates to the context that they are used in. Many managers of organizations are viewed as leaders because of their title, community leaders are viewed as leaders because of their contribution to the communities in which they live, motivational leaders are viewed as leaders because of their eloquent speaking abilities, and teachers are viewed as leaders because of the level of impression that they have on young minds. Leadership’s true definition is so robust that someone could disagree with my above statement because of the titles that I mentioned don’t fall within their believed definition of leadership. One thing that can be believed is that leadership is a collective set of skills and a continual practice.
