In order to understand why multiculturalism is good or bad we first need to find what multiculturalism education means. Multiculturalism is the schools and the teachers would be committed to learning and development systems where all students would have the skills and knowledge that they need to thrive and participate in a complex and all the challenging economy and society. Just like racism and prejudice cannot be permitted to hinder the progress of any individual, all young people are entitled to benefit from the richness of our multicultural society and to develop the understandings and skills they need to contribute as confident world citizens.
The key arguments in the articles in favor of multiculturalism in public schools were reasonable. As Lalit Wankhade said that every culture has its own value system. He said that the greatest revamp is required in the education system. It should incorporate the components which would help to inculcate tolerance and respect for each others. If people know about evolution and be educated on it, they will understand why cultures have different nature of social institutions and value systems. And by doing so everyone will have a basic understanding of every culture and everyone with their own culture will be treated equally and they will not boast up superiority of their own culture. Multiculturalism in public education is important because it promotes diversity as a positive learning experience; making it a positive cause to learn about other people’s culture can be a very exciting experience for a lot of students. ...grees with everything I experienced in school which reflected on my performance and participation in school. I don’t think school gives enough attention to multiculturalism education and I believe it is very important to start doing something about it.
What I learned from participating in this exercise that there are always going to be an advantage and a disadvantage of anything. Although I believe there are many advantages to multiculturalism education, there are also disadvantages of multiculturalism education that I agree to be a disadvantage. This exercise taught me to look at the bigger picture and read/listen to other people’s point of views and learn from them instead of ignoring them. It is important to listen to other people’s opinions of things to either make you stronger in what you believe in or even change your point of view after listening to others.
