Statistics state that children and teens who participate in team activities/sports show better communication skills, and are better rounded. “When a team outgrows individual performance and learns team confidence, excellence becomes a reality.” That quote is by Joe Paterno. Being apart of team helps develop a good character, morals, and confidence. Team sports are something not everyone will choose to participate in. When you are part of a team you feel connected with every teammate, not because you have to but because you begin to create a bond with those teammates. It’s like you gain a whole new family. Being apart of a team makes you feel needed; you get this confidence that you have never really had before. Being a teammate teaches you responsibility, loyalty, and honesty. It helps develop good character; it helps mold you into a positive influence not only on your other teammates, but to everyone around you. When you become part of a team you begin to feel accepted. It’s like you have this whole new comfort zone with so many new and old peers. At times you will argue, but at the end of the day you know you have those few people to fall back on, and with no doubt, you know they will be there to catch you. Being apart of a team brings out the best and worst sides of you. A team is a group of people who give you that extra boost of confidence, who tell you that as long as you have faith, and give it your all you can accomplish almost anything. Nationwide, more than 2,000 schools in 42 states have the teams, where the ideal is for about half the athletes on each team to be students with intellectual disabilities, such as Down syndrome, and the rest partner athletes who play alongside them. Never let anyone tell you, or think t... ... middle of paper ... ...ade her so special. At the end of the season the annual cheer banquet was held. Kemma and her mother presented each of the basketball cheerleaders with a gift. They both thanked us, and hen Keema’s mother said those ten words we all broke down; “Thank you all for making my baby’s dreams come true.” What everyone didn’t realize was that we weren’t doing Kemma a favor; she was doing us a favor. She taught us that anyone can do anything. She brought our “team” closer than it had ever been. Kemma is a prime example as to how being apart of a team brings you confidence, joy, comfort and acceptance. Works Cited: Shah, Nirvi. "Sports Teams Extend Reach." Education Week 31.36 (2012): 1-19. I do have some personal experience being apart of a team , and trust me when i say it's worth every minute of it. If you are on a team it's more than likely your teammates are going to want to and be willing to help you through anything ,and want to better you not only academically but personally. There will always be a risk of harm in all aspects of life but in my experience team members aren't just going to let each other get hurt . They are going to make sure that everyone is same and if needed wearing all of their safety gear and
She led the team to a Conference championship and a State Championship. As a Senior she was the #1 player in the nation, averaged a triple double with 31 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists. For the second consecutive year in history, she led the team to a state championship and led the nation in scoring. All four years in high school she was selected to be on the all-state team, all-region team, and all-conference team. During the summers of her High School years she would continue practicing and playing for an AAU team.
“‘They score! Henderson has scored for Canada!’” Foster Hewitt wordlessly described” (Pelletier) when Paul Henderson scored the series-winning goal. This allowed Canada to win the 1972 Summit Series, a moment that no one would ever forget since it all happened during the climax of the Cold War. Prior to this, the Soviets had won the previous three Olympic gold metals since Canada could not use its NHL players. Thus, this provided Canada with the chance to play hockey against the USSR using its best players. This raised the question: if Canada were able to send its best players, would it still be enough to beat the Soviets? Everyone in Canada was certain that the Soviets would not win a single game, but little did they know they underestimated the extent of the Soviets abilities. Tied in the last few minutes of game eight, Canada had to score or they would lose the series. However, when Paul Henderson scored the game-winning goal, never before had a single sporting event meant so much to Canadians. Therefore, Paul Henderson’s goal is a defining moment for Canada in the twentieth century becauseit provided Canada with the opportunity to evolve hockey, proved that Canada and our democratic society were superior to the USSR and their communist society, and brought citizens together to unify Canada as a nation.
The Hunger Games was a critically acclaimed movie when it came out; however, some critics would argue that the movie can be sometimes too violent for its intended audience. In this essay I would dissert Brian Bethune’s essay “Dystopia Now” in order to find its weaknesses and compare the movie Battle Royale with his essay.
At the game, she performed much better than other, and after was appreciated by other team players. This incident gave her a thought of playing basketball regularly, and she started devoting her time to the game.
A team player can be associated to any type of profession a person participates. The dictionary defines team players as a number of people associated together in work or activity. Team players are the type of people with a tremendous personality who contribute and motivate themselves in many areas. They include the military, sports, work, and families. However, there are a few things team players are not. Let us explore these aspects closer.
When you play a team sports, you need leadership, team work, a positive attitude, a competitive spirt and time management skills. Team work comes in handy when you and your team are trying to pull out a win in a tough situation. Being part of a team takes flexibility and the ability to lead and follow. I am a team player not only on the field but off the field as well. I stay engaged and lead by example.
As captain of my high school’s soccer team, I encourage my team to do their best in every game, I discipline them, and I show them respect and teamwork. These are very important elements to the team because without discipline there's no team and if there is no discipline there's no respect. I learn a lot from my teammates also and their always there for me when I’m in trouble or I need something. A team is a group of people that share a special bond with each other. At first, We might have some difficulties along the road but in the end we are a family.
Also containing leadership characteristics helps athletes with their social skills. Worsnop, Richard L. points out “there is a general agreement that the nation’s high schools have performed well as the farm system for college sports programs”. In other words team sports presents valuable life lessons and experiences within a group setting. There are endless situations that could take place between the teammates or with the opponents during the game. The fans or known as the community displays a huge part in the sports world and how they distribute their insight on it. Statistics have shown that “ High school teams command legions of devoted fans locally and nationally” (Worsnop). As shown the community is devoted to all types of sports and they see athletes representation and how they react in certain situations. For example the sports that involve physical contact like football and basketball could get out of
Teams are a major source of companies in these coming years. Teams are Heroes (Collins, 2009-08-27). Everyone wants to be a hero, therefore we need to build, follow, and be effective team members and effective team leaders.
The involvement in team sports builds good character and social development skills in children. According to LHSAA executive director, Kenny Henderson “Children who participate in sports have heightened self-esteem, social skills, ability to work well with others and more respect.” Young adults who have played team sports are less likely to take illegal drugs. Adults who played sports as children have better social and leadership skills. Sports provide children with experiences and interactions necessary to grow into an adult with good character and sufficient social skills. Team sports in grade school can offer children and teenager an outlet for stress and negative emotional build-up. Coaches, practices, games or meets and traveling all have a large impact on a person’s charter. Most children who have played a team sport at some time have character traits found in highly successful adults.
Being a part of a team sport shows members commitment and dedication to an activity. It allows the team member to learn commitment not only in team sports, but overall in life as well. Going to practices, games and meetings, and showing dedication to a team that one is part of is vital. Athletes build character through their participation in sports.
The benefits of sports range from physical, mental, and social. Exercise keeps people fit, develops healthy muscle tone, and reduces heart and lung problems (Oak, Manali). Sports studies have shown that “youth are motivated and engaged in ways that do not happen regularly in any other parts of their lives. Their experience of sports stands out from nearly all other activities, including socializing and schoolwork, in providing enjoyment where they are exerting concerted effort toward a goal” (Larson, Reed, and Sean Seepersad). People who play sports bond over a common interest. This opens up children to meeting new kids and socializing with many more. In Kindergarten, I played baseball. Even though I did not truly understand all the mechanics of the game, I met new friends and began to develop motor skills. This was very useful starting at an early age and pushed me to stay active throughout my life.
There are many benefits gained from participating in team sports. Team participation can build self esteem, promote social interaction and help one gain a sense of responsibility. Being involved in a team sport can also help you to attain personal fitness goals and maintain wellness. The time spent practicing with a team, will improve your skills and give you countless hours of enjoyment.
