When you play a team sports, you need leadership, team work, a positive attitude, a competitive spirt and time management skills. Team work comes in handy when you and your team are trying to pull out a win in a tough situation. Being part of a team takes flexibility and the ability to lead and follow. I am a team player not only on the field but off the field as well. I stay engaged and lead by example. I will bring a positive attitude to Saint Francis High because this is something I have learned to be very important over time. Controlling what I can control, is the first step in my success and I can control how I approach any situation. Again either on the field or in the classroom, I will be sure to remain positive. Having a competitive spirt is another characteristic I will bring to Saint Francis. Being able to work hard for what you want is something I learned when I was very young. I take pride in winning and learn from losing and respect my opponent. I see the pride my family takes while watching me play and this feels right. Growing up in a family where everyone played sports, who were all competitive and unwilling to give up on anything and who wanted to win and finish the job no matter what the conditions were, I feel, has started to prepared me for the challenges I will face at Saint Francis High School. But most of all I will bring an open mind. One that will hope to see first hand the ways of a Holy Cross high school and will learn over the next four years more of the schools traditions and with the assistance of teachers and peers. There is no doubt in my mind that I will work hard to be a model student athlete. Given the opportunity to become a Lancer will give me an opportunity to learn more about giving
I have been a four year letter-winner in volleyball and basketball. Athletics have been a crucial part of developing my character and work ethic. In sports, you must work together with your team to reach your goals. Trust and communication skills are vital and are tested every day. The failure and setbacks I have faced through sports have helped me to believe in myself and have the self-confidence that it takes to be successful in athletics and in life. As a senior captain of the volleyball and basketball teams, my leadership has improved tremendously as high school has progressed. Being a leader holds me accountable and I aim to be a role model for younger teammates on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.

In my life I have played baseball with more people, played in more states, and played on more fields than there are minutes in a day. That’s a lot of baseball. This sport means more than just playing a game. Throughout this sport I have had to perform in tough situations and I have had to come up clutch in key situations. I have had to pick everyone’s head up and become the leader when we needed it and more than anything I have had to watch my team and self fail. Baseball is more than just hitting a ball with a bat and outscoring the other team. This sport makes you learn key life skills such as teamwork, failure and success, confidence, performing in clutch situation, and most of all taught me to always keep my head up.
I think the difference in being a team player and not a team player, is state championships. That's another thing, you are on the same team for a reason. You aren't on the team just to try and fight one another, you are on the team because you love the game you are playing and you are trying to win like everyone else is. I have had a few people tell me that tournament baseball will get you no where and how those teams aren't as good as a certain high school team. I this person would have said this is person I would have told them right then and there that the reason tournament teams are so good is because of team chemistry. Those kids that usually play on the teams nowadays have been playing together probably since they were 10 or 11 years old. That's why high school teams have a summer team, because they want their team to play as much as they can together so they can get used to who they will be playing with whenever the high school season comes
Goal setting is important because if you didn’t have a goal, you wouldn’t get anywhere or feel good about something you did. Teamwork is important because if you can’t work as a team with anyone, if you needed help, you wouldn’t go to anyone. Softball is very good about goal setting and teamwork because that is basically the whole thing. Learning those skills will be very important for later in life when you have a job. Play softball to learn the importance of goal setting and teamwork!! Softball teaches you a lot more too but you just have to play the best sport to learn
Each game, my passion grew. Each team, new memories and lifelong friends were made. Sports sometimes make me feel disappointment and at loss; but it taught me to be resilient to a lot of things, like how to thrive under pressure and come out on top. Being the team captain of my high school’s football and lacrosse team showed me how having a big responsibility to bring a group together to work as one is compared to many situations in life. Currently playing varsity football, varsity lacrosse, and track I take great pride in the activities I do. Staying on top of my academics, being duel enrolled at Indian River State College, working three nights a week, and two different sport practices after school each day shaped my character to having a hard work
I decided that I wanted to play a sport, I chose volleyball. Most of my friends played the sport so it wasn't hard for me to adjust and make new friends. Becoming a student athlete was a big adjustment for me, I could no longer float through my classes but I need to excel. And that's exactly what I did. For the first time in my high school career I made not only honor roll, but principal’s honor roll. For the first time my mom was proud of my report card, that made me even more proud. From then on I knew I wanted nothing less than what I earned, good grades and a proud family. From my decision to chose to become a student athlete not only make me work harder but, be great at everything I put my mind to. I had motivation to stay successful, to stay eligible. Three years ago if you were to ask me where I thought I would be my senior year, I probably would have told you low level classes barely making it by. Now here I am today excelling in my education preparing to take the next step in my future, college. Even if we don’t understand why we go through them, we have to be willing to let our obstacles become out
