Eric Schlosser was obviously trying to make a change when he wrote Fast Food Nation. If he wasn’t then why would he write it in the first place? So, what was his main goal in his book? It doesn’t take a genius to understand that he was revealing the information that he did to convince people to be healthier via this startling information. But what’s uncertain about this is: what specific goal did he want to achieve with this book? Eric Schlosser’s main goal in Fast Food Nation is to bring awareness to the goings on in the food industry, he does this by revealing the largely excessive use of artificial ingredients in food, the treatment of the animals that provide said food, and the ways big companies can and do trap consumers into buying their products.

to acknowledge the absurdly large use of additives and flavors in food. However, while Eric has expressed this overuse of additives, he has expressed the lack of something else in the food business. That something being the care food companies show for the animals that provide their resources. A website called fast food nation honors project states, “The fast food companies do not care about the animals, they only care about the cost and efficiency of the process.” and, “Not only are some animals being mistreated for the sake of efficiency but sometimes it is completely unnecessary. One example of this is there is video proof of men kicking chickens while they are collecting all the chickens from the poultry house. There is not need for this and it does not benefit them, it is just a senseless act of cruelty.” This proves that Eric is not the only one to attempt this but people who care about this and “honor” him, as the website suggests. And yet, what is most likely the biggest is saved for last, cliche? Yes, but who cares. Eric and his “disciples” of sorts reveal that the food companies are consciously getting people addicted to their products via special additives and flavors.

It’s seen here that people like Eric Schlosser and Kelly Brownell are talking about food as similar to tobacco, they do this to show the addictive properties food can have because of fast food companies wanting their customers to be addicted to their product like drugs. And thus ends the flow of new information, to which whoever this may concern has grown accustomed to by now and will be quickly swooped away from them… that’s a little long just to transfer

In conclusion, Eric Schlosser’s main goal was in fact, to bring awareness to food companies’ shadier processes, such as their use of additives, their treatment of livestock, and whatever that last one is. (Companies getting their customers addicted). So wait… what is the bigger meaning of this? What does all of this information mean? What does one do with such shocking and revolutionary information? Well, the meaning of this all is to show what exactly Eric Schlosser did with his book and how he used the information he had to spread it as wide as possible. This means the information gets spread from person t person, and others that care about the topic spread it to. And finally, one should be spreading that information, by telling a friend, a family member, or anyone that will listen to their ranting about the extraction of moo juice.

This reeled in even more consumers because it allowed kids to be in control of what they wanted to eat, as Bob Eckert, the C.E.O. of Kraft in 1999, said, “Lunchables aren’t about lunch. Chapter 1 discusses one of fast food’s developer, Carl N. Karcher. It begins by addressing his year of birth and place, Ohio; 1917. After eighth grade, he quit school and went through extending periods of time cultivating with his dad. At the age of twenty years old, he was offered a job by his uncle at his Feed and Seed store in Anaheim, California. He then went to California, which is when he met Margaret, his wife and started his own family. Carl and his wife purchased a hot dog cart, Margaret sold franks over the road from a Goodyear processing plant while Carl worked at a bakery. We eat fast food everyday and it has become an addiction that regards many non-beneficial factors to our health. Imagine the wealthy plains of grass and a farm that raises barn animals and made contributions to our daily consumptions. Have you ever wonder what the meatpacking companies and slaughterhouses had done to the meat that you eat everyday? Do you really believe that the magnificent aroma of your patties and hamburgers are actually from the burger? Wake up! For people who don't have time to prepare meals, for households in which both parents work, there's no question it provides a service. But what is the true cost of this convenience? In the book, Fast Food Nation, Eric Schlosser reveals that the cost is the lives of the people who work in the meat processing plants. Meat packing is now the most dangerous job in the United States.

The panel consisted of 1,000 respondents of ages 16-65 who provided their inputs with an online survey which was conducted between March 13 through 2008. Which was based on results on fast food restaurants like McDonald’s, Burger King, and Wendy’s are gaining popularity even through the economic hardship and recession. Marketing strategy has become more of influence on kids and young American’s. As population grows and the demand increases of fast food restaurants are expanding their stores to capturing more consumers. Fast food chains are also willing to change their menus to continue to gain and retain repeating customers. The Author and His Times: The author of Fast Food Nation, Eric Schlosser was born on August 17, 1959. Eric grew up in Manhattan, New York and also in Los Angeles where his father, Herbert Schlosser, was President of NBC. He attended the college of Princeton University where he studied American History, and soon getting his in British Imperial History. Eric’s career soon took off when he became a journalist for The Atlantic Monthly, quickly earning two medals in a matter of two years. After that he wrote Fast Food Nation in 2001 soon created it into a film in 2006 called Chew on This. The sole purpose of a company is to offer goods and services while making a profit. If people have a liking for food products with so many unhealthy items and are willing to buy them, the companies have no obligation to reduce the amount of added ingredients. The companies aren’t the ones forcing the public to overeat. However, these companies shouldn’t market their products to people who they can easily exploit, like children and those who are penurious. Michael Moss, author of the article “The Extraordinary Science of Addictive Junk Food” interviews several people who worked for certain big brand companies and gives us an abundant amount of information on how the food companies make and market their food to “get us hooked”.
