English Vs. Math To most people English or Language Arts is a creative course and math is just a logical, you get it or you don’t class. My purpose writing this paper is to change your mind. I believe that Math is just as, or more creative than English. I will demonstrate this through a couple of examples. First, we must understand what is behind the creative aspect in English. Most people consider that English is the, ‘creative,’ subject because of titles such as ‘creative writing’ and ‘creative thinking’ and in contrast there is no creative something in math. In English when we are, let’s say, going to write a creative short story we use our imaginations and there are no limits. Now on the other hand in math when faced with a problem such as; if you have 300 meters of fence and have to enclose a rectangular field. What would be the dimensions of the field that would yield the largest area? When mathematicians go to solve one of these they have to be creative in their problem solving. Perhaps, one of the best ways to demonstrate creativity in math is through an identity question. An identity question is where you have an equation and you try to manipulate each side individually without touching the other side and get them to be equal. We start off with something like sin squared theta over cos theta plus cos and the objective here is to prove that it is identical to sec theta. At...
Even after almost twenty years of creating street art, no one knows the true identity of the illustrious character known as Banksy. The notorious artist made a name for themself after creating and plastering politically charged satire of everyday life around the UK. These pieces caused an international fame and a cult following of the work. However, not everyone is fanatic about Banksy as others. In two recent articles, Dismaland's a hit, but how are Banksy's New York works holding up? and Banksy and the Problem With Sarcastic Art, authors Scott Christian and Dan Brooks, respectively, showcase the less than glamorous side of the artist. Through a critical lens, both authors show that not every satire produced by Banksy will have laughter to
... work, he was able to become a successful free man. He was the prime example of how upward mobility could be achieved by any slave, and many African Americans became motivated from his writings about his success. Being a self-made man pushed many African Americans to pursue in their own self destiny. According to history.com, Douglass used his speeches and writing to stand up against slavery and racism, and also gave African Americans confidence to rise with him (Brewer). The motivation Douglass gave slaves influenced them to rebel against society. More slaves were touched by his writing and they started to come together, as many dreamt of achieving the same goal of upward mobility. Overall, Douglass was a phenomenal source of motivation and inspiration for African American slaves all over America to stand up against the horrendous practice known as slavery.
Creativity should be about the pure enjoyment of having been involved, influencing others and being influenced, combining ideas and preserving those that speak to us, discovering and appreciating all that which is greater than ourselves.
Douglass was the voice of the people and was anti slavery and tried to enforce it. It shows it doesn't take a crowd of people to put a voice in society it takes one individual who alone does change in society. Douglass wrote “What To The Slave Is The Fourth of July?” because as americans the fourth of july was all about freedoms. As for black people they didn't see it that way they saw that they had little freedoms to do what they want.It states,”who to there great commendation, be it spoken , spared no pains night nor day.” Which he is saying he is speaking up for those who don't think they have a voice. Aside from Douglass and Thoreau another person that inspired individualism was Elizabeth Cady
The art work of Banksy is politically charged and tugs at your humanitarian side with just a look. The three images that we will look at were painted on the Apartheid Wall in Israel. This wall separates the West Bank and Israel. Banksy opposes this wall because as he states on his website, “The wall is illegal under international law and essentially turns Palestine into the world’s largest open prison”. Looking at these three images we get a sense of the bigger message behind the art. These images are surprising at first because they mix innocence and violence to prove a point of universal peace and how war affects the people.
Gardner describes the creative individual as follows: “The creative individual is a person who regularly solves problems, fashions products, or defines new questions in a domain in a way that is initially considered novel but that ultimately becomes accepted in a particular cultural setting” (Gardner, 1993, p. 35). As I understand this, a creative individual is one who seeks out problems and states or solves them in a way that no one else has previously. Such inno...

Creativity is defined as the generation of ideas that are both useful and original (Ritter & Ferguson, 2017). Creativity is tested through the measurements of two different types of thinking – divergent and convergent (Ritter & Ferguson, 2017). Divergent thinking is being able to generate new ideas and perspectives; it is measured through the Unusual Uses test in which subjects are given an object and must list all uses, even unusual ones, for an object (Ritter & Ferguson, 2017). The Unusual Uses test in a no noise condition is commonly used to create a baseline for assessing individual creative potential (Toplyn & Maguire, 1991). Convergent thinking is the ability to
Banksy is one of the most recognized street art artists. According to Wikipedia Banksy is a graffiti artist, a political activist and a film director. His satirical street art and subversive epigrams combine dark humor with graffiti executed in a distinctive stenciling technique. His work is known all over the world as his images, thoughts and ideas are influential and powerful. His ideas are looked more as a freedom of speech and a voice for the voiceless. Despite what is said in theory, more important is to understand how people perceive his
Art has followed man and his development throughout the ages since our ancestors created the first tools. The most striking expressions of Paleolithic art were images painted on cave walls (Janson & Janson, 2004). Back up to 40,000 years ago, man was busy experimenting with art skills. By using simple pigments, great images were created and stories were told. Take those same ideals; fast forward thousands of years and you have modern day street art, or graffiti. It proves that human beings have an innate need to paint on walls, to communicate their plight or story in the most primitive way possible. Banksy, an anonymous English artist who specializes in street art would be one of the most famous modern graffiti artists
How (how much) creative is this student? And how (and where) is this student creative? The first question refers to eminent creativity; things like scientific articles, musical compositions, etc. ability rarely observed in the general population. The second question views creativity as a potency in every individual. According to the monologue, as stated in Assessing Creativity in the Classroom by Barboot, Besancon, Lubart (2011, p. 60). “The assumption behind this approach is that, by measuring a component of creative potential, one can have a good estimation of creative potential without distinction of the components, type of task, or domain of creative expression.” The last question “goes beyond the notion of status’ ‘degree’ or ‘level’ of creative potential It underlies the form that creative potential can take and it implicitly includes both questions where is and how the creative potential of this student is expressed across various dimensions? It emphasizes the importance of considering the multidimensionality and domain specificity of construct of creativity, when assessing creative potential in
style and when you see a Banksy piece, you know it’s his art. It’s like the art actually hits you and makes you feel something. I feel that Banksy’s art can make a change in this world and people need to appreciate it more. He is sharing his gift and wisdom to the world and it’s importance is being taken for
...re encompassing way, it becomes very clear that everything that we do or encounter in life can be in some way associated with math. Whether it be writing a paper, debating a controversial topic, playing Temple Run, buying Christmas presents, checking final grades on PeopleSoft, packing to go home, or cutting paper snowflakes to decorate the house, many of our daily activities encompass math. What has surprised me the most is that I do not feel that I have been seeking out these relationships between math and other areas of my life, rather the connections just seem more visible to me now that I have a greater appreciation and understanding for the subject. Math is necessary. Math is powerful. Math is important. Math is influential. Math is surprising. Math is found in unexpected places. Math is found in my worldview. Math is everywhere. Math is Beautiful.
Anyone who takes the time to learn, and especially to acquire diverse knowledge, can express great creativity. As said by Vern Burkhardt, “The mythical views that we have about creativity and genius are almost impossible to reconcile with the scientific method” (Burkhardt). In other words, this quote is saying that no science is able to backup that creativity is linked to a higher IQ. So, all in all, anyone who applies themselves to a topic or field can be creative in that matter. You don 't have to be a registered genius to be
Creativity is a way of bringing new idea into existence or to come out with a product through an imaginative skills or ability. With this, there must be a preexisting idea that will serve as a platform to act. All innovation begins with creative ideas. Creativity is the foundation of innovation.
