English composition may be an interesting course for me. I personally had no idea that I was taking an honors class. When I found out, I had a little panic inside of me. I’ve never taken an honors class before and that’s why I was a little worried. Inside I was screaming because I didn’t know what I signed up for. Another part of me was kind of excited because it was something new. I also like a good challenge and this course may be it.
1. I learned how to use MLA format as a tool for my papers. For starters, there are plenty of examples given on using this format on assignments as well as instructions. Meaning that if no one understood MLA format, they could just go to the tab. In this tab, there are samples given as well as a template. Furthermore, there are videos from Purdue Owl and examples from students. Therefore, any confusion or questions should be cleared up through all of the information given in this tab.

Another thing I’ve learned about is the Ink Spot. First, there’s a small clip of what they’re about and the purpose of the writing center. In the writing center, there are individuals who help anyone who’s struggling with their writing. The tab gives links to schedule appointments online and on campus too. Additionally, they teach students how to edit their own papers and guide students into stepping their writing skills to the next level. This is useful for anyone who’s having trouble in writing papers and would like to improve their writing.
3. Lastly, I’ve learned about the library. First, they give tips as to what should be avoided in research papers. In addition to the use of citations and resources. There are many listed links as to what can be used in a research paper and where your sources can be found at. The library also shares about the different types of resources, such as books, websites, articles and reference books. Hence if there’s any struggle in finding resources for a research paper, there’s always the MVC
i feel as is the writing center is a great resource for writing materials. Not all of the tutors was helping as i thought it will be. If i do have anymore questions or need assist with my papers in the future. I do plan on going to the writing center to get more educated on what i want to write about and how i want to
MLA, in which this essay has been written, is most commonly used in the study of literature and humanities. This is because of a variety of factors within the format that allow the author to display their information in a fashion that seamlessly flows. APA, unlike MLA, labels when the topic or subject
English 101 is one of the most common college courses in the world. When I enrolled in the class, I was bothered that I would have spend forty hours in a freshman writing class; along with at least another forty hours throughout the semester writing for the class. What surprised me, was that when I began writing my essays I was not annoyed or bothered; I actually enjoyed the assignments. Most importantly, throughout the course of the semester, I have become a better writer and have ultimately met the course goals of English 101.
I am an international student from China and this is my first semester studying at the University of Oklahoma. It is all very good information and helpful, I know it will come in handy not only in this assignment but in all my work throughout this program. I learned the different ways people learn and think and how to work at being those kind of thinkers and apply that to the papers I write. There is a lot of information out there, knowing where to look is very important and knowing how to incorporate your research is a must. Knowing your subject in and out and the proper way to do so is also important, in order to write a well informed paper. What I have read will help me with that
I was fortunate to attend two amazing institutions with incredible programs, Centralia College and Washington State University Vancouver. Centralia College provided me with an opportunity to demonstrate the strength of my skills through a six month research based project with the goal of improving training at the Writing Center. The Independent Project enabled me to strengthen my professional skills through interviewing, writing center directors
Within the first weekend of working on this topic, I knew I was going to need some help. After the first paper, I learned it is always beneficial to talk about concerns and issues with people who know about writing instead of friends or family members. As a result, I scheduled three appointments with the writing center. Each appointment helped a lot, and I believe it helped more this time around than last
English Composition II has unexpectedly improved my writing into an academic level. As I studied various English reading and writing courses, this class “English Composition II” did not immediately caught my eye. However as I researched about the concepts of this class, the decision to make was not so difficult since I was lacking in critical thinking and the interpretation of works. Also as a Business Major, it made sense that the subject of English would be of interest to me and as a career requirement. During the first weeks, I thought that I would be fully prepared for this course after taking an accelerated course in English during the spring semester. However, after attending class for about a month, I certainly did not expect to learn an entirely new process of writing
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst, I walked in to English not knowing what to expect. English 111 was boring at times but in many ways helpful. College Composition I main objective is to teach students the fundamentals of academic writing and critical thinking. Aside from learning how to academically write, recognizing grammatical errors, tone, and different styles such as MLA, APA, and CMS, are some other things learned in the course. This essay will be evaluating the book as a whole, self-reflections, essays, my strengths and weaknesses and my professor.
My English Composition Study In my freshman year, ENG class was always an important class. As we all know, when you are learning a foreign language, the most difficult thing is to write a paper with this language. Our school is an American style school, so we need to use English whenever we write papers. However, it is a little difficult for beginners to learn the pattern of American essays and to form our own papers.
I have learned many things throughout the course of the term, including such things as: how to write an essay and how to improve on essays that I have already written, how to locate and composite better research through the use of numerous resources found at the campus library, the internet, and the “Common Sense” textbook, how to cite research, examples, and quotations properly within the contents of my research paper as well as document it accurately according to MLA standards. Through the exploration of the “Subjects and Strategies” textbook, I have learned nine different methods used when writing an effective essay and how the different writing styles affect the overall theme and tone of the essay when used properly. This past semester, I have encountered many difficulties when trying to write these essays, but through the use of the textbooks, the aide of the instructor, and once I was able to classify the different types of essays and styles, I found them possible to overcome.
I chose my project of writing a newspaper from Verona because I wanted to learn and improve on the type of writing style that is most commonly used in this type of informational writing. Due to the fact that my normal writing style is really different than the one that I chose to write in. I did that because I know that one of my weaknesses in writing is that I tend to be really bad when trying to mimic another writing style and I wish to improve on that, also that when I usually write I have a lot of unnecessary information and long winded sentences. Which I wanted to also try and improve on. Another reason why I chose this project is that I would like to have a career that involves writing and English in one aspect or another. Writing is also something that I like to do and a very important skill in my everyday life. Considering that I wanted to get as much experience in writing as I could and
Although I was very worried at first because I had never written poems or short stories; I had a good experience taking this class. I did very well completing the assignments, posting on the discussion forum and critiquing my peer’s works. Throughout the semester, I worked very hard to finish every assignment on time. Every journal, the poems, and the story were a challenge since writing is one of my weaknesses. I think I did well because I do not like to procrastinate. I have learned to manage my time effectively and to organize the study load. Through the different tasks, I learned to recognize in more detail the essential elements of a poem and a short story. On the other hand, the class was very well organized and easy to follow. Each
During the course of this class, I have had the opportunity to read literature from authors who come from different backgrounds and places in the world. Some of the stories and poetry we read were straight forward while others were confusing and sometimes required a second look. But one thing is clear, it changed the way I think about literature in a few ways that I wasn’t expecting. Three works in particular stand out in my mind. “ I Wont Let You Go” by Rabindranath Tagore, “To New York” by Leopold Senghor, and Pedro Peramo by Juan Rulfo all had an impact on my thinking for similar yet different reasons. They all incorporate their cultural backgrounds into their work through the setting of their pieces. They also compose their pieces in a way that makes you want to research their history to find the deeper meaning. Finally, a couple of the authors write about things they are emotionally connected to. Some of the examples we will look at, really opened my eyes to going beyond a superficial understanding of literature.
