The resources provided has allowed me to gain a better understanding of the thought behind an individual’s choice to explore other identities. According to Brewster and Moradi (2010), “Emerging adulthood is marked by uncertainty and the sense that many different routes in life are available; individuals in this life stage maybe inclined to experiment with social roles and identities while establishing a life structure and considering various possible identity and role commitments.” My experience entering adulthood more than often is totally different than my clients, colleagues, friends, etc. So, understanding the mindset and psychological aspects of gender identity are important in supporting those that may or may not be suffering from conflicting …show more content…

Children become clique and begin to form their own social groups, usually same sex during this time. Many of the children displaying the gender variant behavior is susceptible to isolation, teasing, bully, etc. During this time moral development and the development of the superego are formed. Because of the fear of further isolation and harassment children are keen to suppressing their feelings and behaviors. For centuries now, parents in disbelief have associated their child’s choice of sexually with lay press and social media. There is much stronger relationship between adult gender variance and childhood gender variance: the people who are gender variant as adults have much greater histories of gender variance as childhood than not”. I found this topic to be very intriguing. The information learned during this assignment will forever be implemented into my practice of social work. I’m assumed the preference to be man or woman was a choice of that individual; which I support. The decision to be whomever he or she choices lies much deeper than I would like to be.
