Professor Laurel Zucker played flute while Professor John Cozza played piano. Both them performance some songs from the popular musician of Paul Taffanel, Olivier Messiaen, Eric Ewazen, Germanie Tailleferre and Charels Griffes. My favorite part of the concert is the second part of their performance. They performed the song from Olivier Messiaen called “Le Merle Noir”. This song expresses the love of nature. The significant character of this song is use blackbird calls. Blackbird calls is uses to motives derived from tone rows. Song of “Le Merle Noir” contains two mainly melodic which are triton and chromatic. It also with Coda pattern of ABA ‘B’. Professor Laurel Zucker and professor John Cozza, played flute and piano and coordinated to each other very well and. Their performance of this song has made me have the feeling of love and peaceful. “Le Merle Noir” is a “birdcalls’ style songs which has 12-tone row and made the audience think it’s creative. Meanwhile, the style of this song, it made the audience sound like improvised. I like this song because when I was listening to it, I feel like I live in a nature, it feels like we are surrounded by forest with many birds singing at the same time. His interest in musical instruments started when he was given a guitar as a present for his fifteenth birthday. Even though he faced challenges at the beginning, Eric has risen to be one of the most influential and important guitarists of all time (Johns, pp.20). At the age of 16, his work had been noticed as he played on various occasions alongside his colleague David Brock. When he turned 17, he joined the R&B group, a local band that performed live. Clapton’s success was evident when he came second in the list of Rolling Stone magazine on the top 100 Greatest Guitarists. During the 1960s, Clapton abandoned the Yardbirds and joined the Blues breakers and John Mayall. His engagements with Mayall was however not very fruitful as he formed a power trio with Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce. During this time, Clapton played improved blues that was mixed with pop. He later created a blues-rock band with Steve Winwood, Baker, and Ric Grech. Throughout the 1970s Clapton’s music resembled the style of J.J Cale and Bob Marley. His work of Bob Marley’s “I Shot the Sheriff” made reggae expand its taste on the market. Two of his leading compositions were Layla that was done with Dominos and Derek, and the second was Crossroads that he performed with Robert Johnson. The death of his son saw him compose the “Tears in Heaven” which was captured on one of his albums. Clapton’s contribution to music has seen him receive a lot
I chose to do my composer report on Florence Price. Florence Price was born April 9, 1887 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Florence Gulliver and James H. Smith. She had two siblings. Florence gave her first recital at four years old. She attended the same elementary school as William Grant Still where they both studied under educator Charlotte Andrews Stephens. Florence Price is considered the first black woman in the United States to be recognized as a symphonic composer. Her training was steeped in European tradition, but still Price’s music consists of mostly the American idiom and reveals her Southern roots. Her mother, who was a soprano and pianist, carefully guided her early musical training. At the age of fourteen, Price enrolled in the New England Conservatory of Music with a major in piano and organ. She studied composition and counterpoint with George Chadwick and Frederick Converse. She wrote her first-string trio and symphony in college, and graduated in 1907 with honors and both an artist diploma in organ and a teaching certificate.
Captain Trips first played with Mother McCree’s Uptown Jug Champions who became the Warlocks in 1965 and later became the “seminal ‘60s rock & roll band the Grateful Dead” for which Garcia is most known(“Jerry Garcia_”). Grateful Dead is a name that was randomly chosen from an open copy of the Oxford English Dictionary.
Is one of Heads more popular vocal works. This song is from a collection of works; Songs from the Countryside. The ritard in a the opening system and then a quick follow by the a tempo marking creates vivid word painting and puts emphasis on the lyrics money. The intensive use of accents and use of textual markings of this composition make it a great example of a 20th composition. In this case the dynamic and textual markings poses a great dimension of context as instruments were at this time capable of almost anything. A definite characteristic of the 20th century and a characteristic of this piece is the variety in mood, textual markings and accents on majority of the notes.
Not only that, he played for great stars like Ike and Tina Turner as well as Sam Cooke. The year 1965 was when things really started to take flight for Hendrix’s music career. He played for more bands and artists such as Joey Dee. Hendrix played for the Starlighters at the time as well. During the next three years, Hendrix played for many major music artists and decided to make his own band he named Jimmy James And The Blue Flames. One day, while performing, former bassist of the band The Animals, Chas Chandler watched him and offered to be his manager in mid 1966 (Rockhall).
The simplicity of the lyrics allows for the audience to completely understand each word, which speak directly to their emotions causing a feeling of personal connection between the song and the listeners. For example, the song starts

Clara Schumann was an accomplished composer of her times but recognition of this feat did not come with ease. Clara faced many of the common stumbling blocks to women during this time to include the idea that a woman’s place was in the home and that her life focus is to please her husband, run the home and take care of the children. Despite this mindset, this musical prodigy was able to wittingly break ground for other women to come after her. Even in death, as history cannot be rewritten, all of her musical accomplishments are rarely mentioned in musical history textbooks.
Music is constantly playing and it lightens the crowd to dance and sing. The piano produces sounds that can only make a room full of people forget everything and just make the night one of the best. One instance occurs in the movie when the music stops due to the arrest of Ugarte. When the music ceases, the people quit their fun to focus on Strasser. Then after a bit, the music resumes and the people do as well. A second instance, occurs when the Germans sing their prideful anthem because Sam had stopped playing. Then Mr. Laslow gets the people together to return the cafe back to its normal state. Mr. Laslow gets the crowd to sing “La Marseillaise”. The Germans quit their singing due to the overwhelming strength of the crowd to take the cafe’s normal tone
From the very beginning, Clara’s father, Friedrich Wieck, a well respected German music teacher, intended for her to become a famous musician (Harding, 9). At a young age, he recognized that Clara had the gift of music. According to Bertita Harding, who wrote a biography of Clara Schumann, Wieck took cues from Mozart, in hopes to turning his daughter into a well known child prodigy. He began to rigorously train and cultivate Clara’s natural talent at the age of five and turned it into something extraordinary (Harding, 12)....
Eric Clapton remade one of Robert Johnson's most famous songs "Crossroads" and The Blues Brothers remade another "Sweet Home
Rural blues, being simple and unorganized, and rhythm and blues, being more complex and beat oriented, both portray the same song in virtually opposite ways. Both were entertaining in their own ways, and both of the artists were able grasp and hold the audience’s attention. Johnson’s rural blues version of “Crossroad” was heartfelt and story like with his little instrumental influence and his simple organization. When listening, the audience is able to hear his pure emotion and connection to the lyrics through his raw vocals. Clapton’s rhythm and blues version of “Crossroad” felt rehearsed and preformed; his use of strong beats, strict musical structure, and improvisation made the experience entertaining but very instrumentally focused. By comparing the two types of jazz, the listener is able to comprehend how much jazz has evolved throughout the years. Although one might prefer a specific style over the other, both are intriguing in their own ways and emphasize the strong influence jazz has in our
The song has an intriguing melody that makes me think of London in Europe, maybe it is just because I watched a movie that takes the setting of London or maybe it was the beat of the percussion and the brass, maybe more other instruments, but it created a nice light and deep feeling within the sound. The opening of the song was greatly influential releasing a great amount of energy to the audience. In the middle of the song, it was going down, but then the energy returned and renewed, propelling the overture to the finish. At the same time, it creates an opening for some kind of curtains onstage to drop down dramatically. Having the string and woodwind to act as the cushion of the song being dark and downhill while the brass and the percussion act as a representation of the beating heart of all living things. In the beginning of the song, it was in allegro but throughout the song, it goes downward with the beat being downbeat but once it hit adagio the song become more upbeat and the tempo become vivace. With the brass, woodwind playing vivace and the percussion breaking up the parts each second. Until near the ending, all instruments hit their big parts that would come as a dramatic timing. This song was a classic and I believe it was in many comedy animations back in the good old
The brilliant composer Clara Schumann was born as Clara Josephine Wieck on 13 September 1819. Even before her birth, her destiny was to become a famous musician. Her father, Friedrich Wieck, was a piano teacher and music dealer, while her mother, Marianne Wieck, was a soprano and a concert pianist and her family was very musically gifted. Her father, Friedrich, wanted to prove to the world that his teaching methods could produce a famous pianist, so he decided, before Clara’s birth, that she would become that pianist. Clara’s father’s wish came true, as his daughter ended up becoming a child prodigy and one of the most famous female composers of her time.
...re was very interesting transitions between the variation, for example, string section plays the variation from low to high, when they reach the highest note, the brass family takes over and continue with the scale and make it more higher. Tremolo style was used in this piece, which is a quick ups and downs stroke mode. The music were very soothing and attracted the audience. Lastly, they end the piece with the same variations that was played at the beginning.
