I chose to do my concert critique on Eric Clapton-MTV unplugged full concert-HQ January 16, 1992 at Bray Film Studios in Windsor, England. Eric Clapton is my favorite rock n roll singer which has a mixture of genres. The concert was inside and on stage. The audience was seated up close to the stage which made the atmosphere comfortable; Eric and the band showed much warmth and connected with the crowd it wasn’t like the band was untouchable. The band consist of 8 members, Nathan East bassist/vocals, Andy Fairweather-Low, lead guitar/vocals, Steve Ferrone- drums, Chuck Leavell-key boardist, Ray Cooper- tambourines, Katie Kissoon and Tessa Niles- vocals, and Eric Clapton- composer, rock n roll guitarist, lead vocalist. The band members dressed in casual attire. The band members were professionals, they knew exactly how to orchestrate every chord, they collaborated with the lead singer and each other in ways that wasn’t so noticeable to the audience but they knew which chords to use for every song, the band was a top notch team. The tempo of the songs were a mixture of fast, slow, to a medium style beat. The texture of the songs was homophonic and well put together lyrics. The style of the music was from the 1960s-1970s which genres were rock, blues rock, psychedelic rock, hard rock, jazz and blues. The first song was “Signe” only guitar chords no vocals, (2) “Before you accuse me” and (3)“Hey Hey” Eric Clapton leading vocals accompanied by guitar chords only, the tempo was a medium beat and the genre was blues style (4) “Tears in heaven” Eric Clapton leading vocals accompanied by backup singers blended beautifully along with the chords, the melody was very soft tempo was slow, this song was dedicated in memory of his 4 ye... ... middle of paper ... ...ofessionals they didn’t just play music but they took pride in whatever instrument they played which really made it more enjoyable. I took notice in how the band communicated with each other either by hand signal or eye signal and they all paid close attention to Eric’s every move. It is so important to watch whoever is leading; good communication will cut down a lot of unnecessary mistakes. I really enjoyed the songs the texture of the songs was composed very well, even though the songs were written in a 60s and 70s style I could relate to them. My favorite is “Layla” I sometimes sing it all throughout the day, I love the texture and I love the rhythm. Overall the concert was awesome, I would definitely attend Eric Clapton’s concert if he’d come into my town. The concert was well worth listening to and I would definitely invite a friend to join along with me.
“Why The Grateful Dead Were the Greatest American Rock Band:, BlogCritics, BlogCritics, 2014, web, 16 April 2014
There have been many bigshot artists that have gone down in music history over the years. One man in particular, however, will forever be known all over the world for his famous works and amazing stage performances. This man is none other than the one and only Jimi Hendrix. Hendrix altered the style of rock and roll during the late 60’s early 70’s and is widely considered one of the most influential guitar players amongst the music world to this day.
The third song was a blues entitled “Blues for Mel.” This was a dedication to Mel Luis, which was a well-known blues performer. The song had a sad and down to earth feeling. At the beginning it had a slow and soft beat, which gradually got faster at the end.
The birth of Rock and Roll Music was a mixture of popular music and African American country blues and hillbilly music. However, Rock and Roll music was influence since the 1950’s by two particular African American artists like Muddy Waters and Howlin` Wolf. Through their distinct voices, style, deliverance, and performances that helped the music in the 1950’s give rise to this new style of music genre Rock and Roll. During the World War II era, this style of music was looked at; as traditional music and, through the music people could tell their story, not just about their struggles but the real struggles going on around them, like, isolation between black and white people. Most artists were sharing their values and trying to associate through
Despite people’s desire to bring back the feeling of the original Woodstock, all that can remain is its effect on the people who experienced it and the affect on the culture they lived in. The concert was necessary to have because it eased tension in a time of history that was full of war and prejudices. Its stories will be told, some good, some bad, but the desire that people feel to experience it firsthand will never be lost.
... his guitars. “Clapton’s rich, precise guitar work showed why he is worth seeing anytime, anywhere” (Fricke 2).
Music tends to follow the trends of its listeners; genres come and go with popularity. Rock and roll was considered to have its golden era in the 1960s (Rock and Roll). It stood out with unforgettable performances by Sly and the Family Stone, The Jefferson Airplane, The Who, Grateful Dead, Santana, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin (Rock and Roll). The Beatles were one of the top rock and roll bands. It is said that their music “combined the distinct sounds of Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Elvis Presley, and others which shaped a sound that dominated the sixties with its creativity and style” (Holland 105). Jimi Hendrix brought a new style of music called “acid rock”. He changed the way music was played by experimenting with different melodies, different chord...
The first person to play was supposed to be Sweetwater but they were stuck in traffic so Richie Havens had to open up the festival. Richie did not want to open the show and kept making up excuses but Michael Lang was not giving up he knew he could do it. At 5:07 pm he sucked it up and went out there and sang his spiritual heartwarming music. He was only suppose to do forty five minutes worth of songs but the crowd wanted more so he went back on stage and sang every song he knew. His last song was called “Freedom” everybody loved it so much that other bands had to do fantastic to compare. (Hilstrom)
In 1971 and 1972, Clapton was not heard from, at least not musically, as he was battling a heroin addiction that cut two years out of his early work. But, on January 13, 1973, Clapton stormed back with a live performance at the Rainbow Theatre in London. That spawned his next record, “Eric Clapton’s Rainbow Concert,” which, obviously, featured live performances.
Jimi Hendrix is considered one of the most highly regarded and influential rock guitarists in American history. Hendrix was a pioneer for the genre of hard rock; an instrumental genius. His combination of sounds on his guitar and on stage was both chaotic and brilliant at the same time. Though he was a powerful performer in general, many remember him for his breakthrough performance at Woodstock Music Festival in 1969, when he sang “Star Spangled Banner.” This particular performance is regarded to be one that made the festival so famous, for Hendrix took advantage of the stage unlike any artist had before. He transformed and expanded upon his typical style of song and performance at Woodstock through a number of different elements. Production
Rock music into four sections: Rock of the 50's, of the 60's, of the 70's
The Beatles experimented with several different types of musical genres, ranging all across the board, from rock and roll to psychedelic. In Icons of Rock: An Encyclopedia of the Legends Who Changed Music Forever, Scott Schinder and Andy Schwartz describe the Beatles’ musical evolution:
In 1992, singer, musician, and composer Erik Clapton released "Unplugged", a cd recorded during his tv special on MTV. This program was part of a series of programs performed by different artists, playing almost no electrical instruments. His cd won the Grammy Awards for best album of the year, best pop male vocal, best rock song -- Layla, and best rock male vocal, and best song of the year -- Tears in heaven.
The concert opened with DJ Reverse Prime whose goal was to “get the party started,” and of course he did just that. By the time the DJ left the stage, the anticipation was immense. That’s one thing B.A.P is great at, keeping the audience intrigued. I could feel my mind was being held captive from the moment B.A.P walked onto the stage to the moment they walked off. During those two and half hours, it was easy to become mesmerized by their songs. Time seemed to tick away at an alarming rate while the audience sang to their heart's content alongside the band. Not to mention, the venue itself complimented the groups appearance. The Majestic Theater, was classy and provided a vintage feel. There were chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and a beautiful patterned carpet below with colors that complimented the chandeliers. The gorgeously detailed white balconies above us made it feel like we were walking into an opera performance. On occasion, they paused the performance to talk with the fans and it was hilarious to hear some of the members attempt to pronounce English words. Overall, there was not a moment in which I wanted to look away, the energy from both the fans and the group was
I had never really been to a big concert that had a well-known band. A couple of weeks before the concert I got some information about it, but really didn't think much of it. I talked with some friends about the band and we all casually decided to go get tickets for it. Little did I know what an absolutely spectacular time I would have.
