Each week in elementary school, the students within my cooperating classroom would delve into a new topic or subject area. One week it was money. Another week it was time. Depending on the topic, each subject area would correlate accordingly. The students would learn to count money in math. They would read about how money is made in Reading Comprehension. One thing did remain the same during the duration of my student observations in Ms. F’s classroom. During the entirety of my field experience at the elementary school, my cooperating teacher Ms. F, would hang the specific focus for that week on the focus wall. Accompanying the theme on the focus wall, the spelling words were displayed as well, along with a poster describing respect and the …show more content…
Ohio Standard 4 states that “Teachers plan and deliver effective instruction that advances the learning of each individual student” (OSTP). Meaning, teachers are using a very precise and effective teaching method in order to accommodate and promote the best learning for each particular child. This standard exemplifies my evidence to a T. The focus board used in Ms. F’s classroom is an exact replica of this standard. Her focus board, displaying all the main focuses of the week’s lesson plan, is a way for Ms. F to deliver information and advance the learning of each individual student. Within Ohio Standard 4, element 2 most clearly exemplifies the duty of my evidence. Element 2 of Ohio Standard 4 states, “Teachers use information about students’ learning and performance to plan and deliver instruction that will close the achievement gap” (OSTP). Meaning, teachers are picking up on the different learning styles and capabilities of each of their students, and using this to deliver instruction that would place children on an equal playing field. Using my evidence, it is clear to see that Ms. F is doing just that. Like previously stated, the focus board within the classroom greatly benefits all learning styles within the classroom. The visual applies to the visual learners, speaking the content of the board with the whole class helps with repetition and auditory learners. Finally, the ability to take the posters …show more content…
F’s class. Being able to recognize that different learning styles benefits the students in the classroom. Because each student is unique, it is important to acknowledge this when creating assessments or just teaching in general. My understanding of my evidence benefits the students as well. At times I found them telling me to go check the focus board, when I was struggling with helping them. I was able to see before my very eyes that this repetition and their ability to reintroduce the concepts for that week to themselves was helping them immensely. As for myself, as a future educator, I will make it my duty to promote an interactive and adaptable environment for children, perhaps using different assessments and learning styles to benefit each child. My understanding of the standard helps me as a future educator because it allows for me to acknowledge the importance of planning and understanding the various types of information, learning styles, and teaching. Perhaps in my future classroom, I will implement the use of a focus board. This evidence relates to the textbook. In relation to my evidence, the focus board and closing of the achievement gap by the elementary school make it apparent that parent involvement must be evident outside the classroom. A direct quote from Chapter 11 in Teaching to Change the World states “when parents

Parent school involvement in children’s education is associated with positive outcomes, educational and otherwise. Within the last two decades parent involvement has increased in American schools. While initially parents were
Understanding by Design, Differentiated Instruction and Standards-based instruction are three methods that are used to instruct students in the classroom and help them succeed when learning. They can be used separately to plan and organize the classroom. Yet used together, they create and promote effective ways for the students to learn and insure that every student in the classroom can reach success. One must understand the different methods and how they work in the classroom before they are able to understand how to instruct with all the methods together.
I observed at St. Eve’s Learning Center location in their preschool room. The center has a naturalistic feel to the environment and all of the staff is friendly and welcoming. The classroom displayed best practices, modern theories and research, and followed expected standards set by their accreditations.

It was 8:45am on Tuesday, October 20th, 2015: The toddler classroom environment is open and well organized. The room has three sections. When first entering the room the first area near the door is open. A tan carpeted floor covers the area. To the right of the door, was a metal trashcan with a lid. The room leads into an open back room where the changing table is. To the right of the changing table is a small bathroom with off-white painted walls. The walls have a few pink and purple flowers painted on. The changing table has a bottom shelf underneath to hold the various sized diapers. Next to the changing table is a wooden shelf that held other supplies such as baby wipes, cleaning wipes, more packages of diapers, and some extra soft
This shows that teachers are only teaching to one learning style. In order to help all students, understand they should be taught in the way they will understand. Teachers should get together with previous teachers and even parents to get an idea of the students. If the teacher is able to have a better grasp on how their students learn better they will be able to provide a lesson plan according to their students’ needs. Having stations to help all students learning needs identifying the students learning style is key for the student’s success.
This key issue address the following New Jersey Professional Teaching Standards is Standard One: Subject Matter Knowledge 1.3 That literacy skills and processes are applicable in all content areas and help students to develop the knowledge, skills and dispositions that enable them to construct meaning and make sense of the world through reading, writing, listening, speaking and viewing; and Standard Four: Instructional Planning and Strategies 4.3 Techniques for modifying instructional methods, materials and the environment to help all students learn; and 4.4 A variety of instructional approaches and the use of various technologies, to promote thinking and understanding.
The school that I visited was new. It was the first year of the school opening. The school board had combined two schools into one, so the students had to adjust to their new environments and new individuals. They seemed to be getting along well with each other. Since the school is new the teacher has to adjust to new problems that araise. Times for the subjects and times for using the computer labs change. So the teacher must always be fixable for anything. In this observation of this classroom I learned about the enjoyment of teaching. How you have to adapt to each of the students.
To conclude, my research shows a clear link between parental involvement and children performing better in school. Children who's parents are involved in their education are showing better performance and are achieving higher grades. They also show better behaviour, more enthusiasm, ambition and higher levels of engagement. compared with children who's parent are not involved in their education. My research also shows that parental involvement has great benefits for both children and parents in many ways, so much so that the most effective schools are those who encouraged parents to be involved.
The students that I observed in the classroom were of middle to high school. I went to see 8th, freshman, 10th , and seniors classes, they seemed excited and very curious to why I was there. The middle school was more alive and rambunctious while I observed them. The High school kids were more relaxed, more comical. Some were paying attention while others seemed tuned out to the lecture or involved in socialization with friends within the class. By the end of the class Mr. Hasgil had restored the attention of everyone by using tactics such as history jeopardy with candy as the prize with the high school kids. In both he middle school and high school the kids were mostly Caucasian with a mixture of black, Asian , and Hispanic in the classes.
For my observation experience I went to Southern High School in Harwood, MD. Southern High School has a special education department for the students with disabilities. The teacher that I met with for this classroom observation was Ms. West. In the classroom there were at least four assistant teachers that helped Ms. West throughout the school day. The assistant teachers helped Ms. West co- teach the class and were there to help the students if they needed extra help. The school also has a couple of student aides that come in to help the teachers and the students in the classroom. There were at least twelve students in the classroom. The students in the class had many different exceptionalities such as learning disabilities, Down syndrome,
