How would you feel if you’re favorite elective at school was being taken away? Why is it that we can eliminate important implications from school but from nowhere else! Why take away curricular activities that help out in our school base everyday? We as students will fight for our electives, our electives base on what we wanna do for fun at school. Learn something else behind the world of math and literature, and just escape from the scene and be able to refresh our minds before another class. Electives help us learn something more and that meaning could be if we have painters then art would be excellent. If we had singers or violin players we can let them have choir and orchestra. Our education overall should be getting more money to make updates to school for example better technology, more extra curricular activities on school property, and new physical features like books etc.. Some people take elective classes they’ve never even taken before because as teenagers we like to try new things. For example if you wanna try cooking class then you try it and see if you like it then if you don’t you know not to take it again and move on. Someone who loves to play the guitar will definitely have a different talents than someone who is a gymnast. You can then try something new that way you don’t get stuck with a job you don’t like. We live in a society where we are surrounded by people telling us that school/education and being educated is the only way to succeed. However, the school system is not up to the standards we want it to uphold. There are three issues we discuss the most which are the government, the student, and the teacher. In John Taylor Gatto 's essay “Against School”, we see the inside perspective of the educational system from the view of a teacher. In “I Just Wanna Be Average”, an essay written by Mike Rose, we hear a student 's experience of being in a vocational class in the lower level class in the educational system when he was supposed to be in the higher class. According to the documentary “Most Likely To Succeed,” the American education system was created to train America’s youth for jobs in factories during the industrial revolution. However, technological advances will soon make those jobs obsolete. With machines being able to be programmed to do manual labor, the only jobs that will remain are those that require higher level thinking skills. The majority of current high school curriculum does not allow students to exercise their creative thinking skills and does not leave much room for free thought. The current curriculum was developed to teach what employers deemed essential knowledge, such as geometry, biology, and geography. These subjects should still be taught to children because a fundamental understanding of these subjects helps them understand the world around them. The U.S. government realized this and made public schools not only virtually free but mandatory to help children succeed. In contrast, today a college degree is more than ever vital for the country’s youth and the government has done little to help them obtain a higher education. The purpose of a high school education is to prepare one for college and ultimately, the workforce. By the end of freshman year, in high school, the average student has learned a sufficient amount of material in enough subjects that he or she can be considered "well-rounded" in his or her studies. This is because the rate at which material is covered in schools, across the nation, has increased dramatically compared to the past. Students now learn more advanced curriculum at a younger age, and this continues to become more evident year after year. The purpose of schooling can be highly subjective, but some core purposes have persisted through time. These core values are important and will continue to be the driving force of education. However, school for today 's generation fails to meet those requirements. Every student knows education is important, but when school is not engaging or in some cases, even relevant, it makes learning difficult. They should create a safe haven for students that creates a love for learning, and then also nurtures that same admiration for learning.
