Elba Velez have been relying on government assistance growing up. Because she is a minor her parents are have been receiving cash assistance for her and her 1st child. When Elba got pregnant with her second child, she was told that New Jersey’s child exclusion law prohibits a mother on welfare in receiving additional cash assistance if she gives birth to more children. The law also requires that there be a ten-month period from the birth of the first child till that the second child. Despite Elba’s effort, she has also failed to provide the full name of the father’s name. She was born on august 9, 1869, and was the tenth child out of eleven children that where born by Robert and Isabella turnbo. Annie’s parents died when she was young so her older sister took care of her until she was old enough to take care of herself.

She was the first African American Texas state senator. Jordan was also a debater, a public speaker, a lawyer, and a politician. Barbara Jordan was a woman who always wanted things to be better for African Americans and for all United States citizens. “When Barbara Jordan speaks,” said Congressman William L.Clay, “people hear a voice so powerful so, awesome...that it cannot be ignored and will not be silenced.”
Rachel Dein is a London Based artist, who studied Fine Arts at Middlesex University . She is most famously known for her tiles made of cement and plaster featuring molds of flowers. She currently runs and owns the Tactile Studio in North London to support herself and her three children. Before setting up her own studio, but after going to art school, she decided to take up an apprenticeship at The Royal Opera House and later branched out to other theaters to continue her prop making career including The English National Opera, The West End Theaters, London Transport Museum and Selfridges Christmas windows. Her time in prop making allowed her to explore her love of theatre, film, and opera while expanding her knowledge of 3d design. She also enjoys gardening, which is where she has gotten some of the materials for her craft.
Helene Melanie Lebel, one of two daughters born to a Jewish family, was raised as a Catholic in Vienna. Her father died during World War I when Helene was only 5 years old, and when Helene was 15, her mother remarried. Helene entered law school, but at age 19, she started showing signs of an illness. By 1935, her illness became so bad severe that she had to give up her law studies. Helene was diagnosed with Schizophrenia and was placed in Vienna’s Steinhof Psychiatric Hospital. Although her condition improved in 1940, Helene was forced to stay in Steinhof. Her parents believed she would soon be released, but in August, her mother was informed that Helene was transferred to Niedernhart. She was actually transported to Brandenburg, Germany where she was led into a gas chamber or room? disguised as a shower room, and was gassed to death. Helene was listed as dying in her room of “acute schizophrenic excitement”.
I will be evaluating the case of Angela and Adam. Angela is a white 17 year old female and Adam is her son who is 11 months old (Broderick, P., & Blewitt, P., 2015). According to Broderick, P., & Blewitt, P., (2015) Angela and her baby live with her mother, Sarah, in a small rental house in a semirural community in the Midwest. Valeria has two older siblings, Guillermo and Celeste and a younger brother named Alan. She began her education in Palmdale California at Cimarron Elementary School then moving to Corpus Christi, Texas at the age of 12. In Corpus Christi she attended Elliot Grant Middle. This was the reality for 29 year old, Angelina Napolitano. She was abused for years after getting married at the age of 15. Angelina had enough of the abuse and murdered her husband. The trial was in May 1911 and she was sentenced to hang. Shortly after, the story hit the newspapers. Angelina’s story started awareness of domestic violence.
A type of “transplanted musical traditions” that has been brought to the United States that is from Mexico that I know of is called “Jarabe Tapatio” or also known as the “Mexican Hat Dance.” This type of music and dance is performed by Mariachi and is a tradition that has been preserved by Mexican migrants who have migrated to the United States. The “Jarabe Tapatio” or “Mexican Hat Dance” is known for dancing around the guy’s hat known as “Sombrero.” This dance has been kept in the Hispanic culture and transplanted by doing celebrations on dates that are significant to Mexican migrants.
