Describe how your efforts to serve your community have been effective or have made a difference The effectiveness of my efforts to serve my community can be seen in three different ways. From going on 4 different mission trips, leading youth groups at a local church, and working with elementary kids at an underprivileged elementary school. I have been on mission trips to Tennessee, New Mexico, North Carolina, and Guatemala. Each of these trips I have led teams in building decks, painting houses, rebuilding floors, and creating an incaparina cooker in Guatemala. It was really cool to see each of the projects finish and to look back to see what my team had accomplished. Furthermore, to see the joyous reactions of each of the homeowners when …show more content…
These four qualities are the definition of what an American should be. From being dependable in their workplace, to serving their community, to leading by example or leading vocally, as well as being patriotic and having an immense sense of patriotism. Without these qualities America would not have grown from 13 colonies into the one major superpower in the world, The United States of America. I especially see these four qualities in my everyday life. Dependability is huge part of my job. This is because I normally don’t see my boss throughout the workday, but he gives me a list of what needs to get done, and I get those jobs done. I started out the summer of 2014 working for this company, and through my dependability, I am trusted to singlehandedly train new employees and get the jobs done that are set out for me to do. The second quality is something that I do just about every day. Each day I work with an underprivileged school and work with individual students. In addition, I serve in a local church through leading youth groups each Sunday evening. At that same church I also run the sound
Many service projects have had an impact on my life, but the significant one is the time that our group put together Blessing Bags. The Blessing Bags were bags put together for homeless people. This project had an impact on my life because at one point in time, my family struggled. We did not have a stable home and we had to continue movie because of the living expenses. It is very difficult to buy many products that are needed for personal hygiene, especially if someone does not have a stable home. There are many people that live in the streets and it breaks my heart. Whenever I see homeless people, I give them what I can. Although my family did not become homeless, I could not imagine living in the streets without any food, clothing, or products
I have participated in several volunteer opportunities as a Girl Scout, singing Christmas carols at a local hospital, picking up trash along the beach, working at a homeless shelter, leading events for younger Girl Scouts and much more. These opportunities have influenced me to become aware of the struggles within my
People’s lives are changed every day by their actions and experiences. This past summer, I participated in a community service project, an experience that opened my eyes in many ways. I was a volunteer at the County Memorial Hospital. In my time as a volunteer at the hospital, I was able to meet patients and staff members from all over the world and learn about their life experiences. Listening to all of their stories has made me truly appreciate everything which I have.
The world has many issues. As a Social Worker my goal is to help alleviate some of those issues. But with as many issues as there are I do not have the skill set or time to combat all the issues that I see. Because of this I need to choose an area to focus on and put my effort into that so that my education and training is put to good use. To choose an issue that is most concerning to me I have to look at my community to see where there is a need. When I look at my community I see many people living in poverty. The good thing about my community is that there are many services for those in need. There are several food banks and many other agencies such as No to Abuse, NyE Communities Coalition, and various counseling agencies that provide needed
This year I have served 74 hours for Learner Leadership Council, 27 hours for National Charity League and 17 hours for New Tech High at Coppell. One of my favorite places to volunteer is at Cornerstone Closet where homeless adults come to get needed items and take showers. We get to help them find clothes, and necessities and spend time talking with them. Another organization that I spend a great deal of time serving in the summertime is Metrocrest. We put together the food backpacks for families through the Backpack Summer Hunger Project. These organizations reach out to other organizations and charities and assist with acts of service. Even on campus I have been able to serve others. Being a NTH@C Tour Ambassador has been an important way for me to give back to my school. I enjoy showing others our learning environment and the importance of what happens each day. By attending clubs on campus is also another way that I feel is a pertinent way to serve alongside others and celebrate their passions. School events such as ‘The Day’ and other school wide bondings also exemplifies service participation. It is a powerful way to show our connection to those around us on a daily
The biggest impact I have made to my community is through community service. Although I also participate in school clubs that fundraise to fight poverty in my neighborhood, I feel that through volunteering I have had a greater influence. I believe this as through my volunteer work as a teacher’s assistant in a confirmation class at my local parish, I have made a positive impact on the lives of the local youth.
... helped the community in numerous ways including developing children’s leadership, protecting the Purple Martin, and playing with toddlers. Developing children’s leadership is important to the community because these children are the future of America. These children will become teachers, government officials, lawyers, doctors among many careers. By helping build the Purple Martin House I am protecting the ecosystem which we all share. If we continue ignoring our ecosystem it will cause harm to all of us on the planet Earth. By volunteering in my church’s nursery I a help the community by taking care of people’s toddlers. All of this is considered community service because I am serving my community by doing all of the aforementioned activities. Also, I am making my community better doing these activities which proves further that what I did is community service.
Through NJHS and NHS, I have accumulated nearly 170 hours of community service. While working about every other weekend with my peers, I have learned how to be part of a successful team plus how to exercise patience and how deeply community service touches the hearts of those in our neighborhoods. Throughout the summers, I worked for over 180 hours as a volunteer IT assistant and gardener for various churches. During my time in a 15 person team while being the youngest and only female of the group, I regularly interacted with co-workers of different backgrounds and ages, learning to succinctly communicate with the world around us and how to embrace cultures aside from my own. Through the various clubs at Centennial, I have been able to encourage my fellow peers to honor those around us by using our abilities in music, writing, and language arts. I am passionate about using our talents to benefit others and am looking forward to spreading my mentality in
Having a beloved community is great. Alpena has a great community, it is not to big and not to small either. There are some things that would make the community better though. I have always loved Alpenas community and have always found it wonderful. There are lots of changes that could be made to make Alpena’s community better then it is now.If we have people helping out in the community Alpena could have a great loving community.
I am involved in several clubs and organizations in my school and community. I believe it is important to give back to my community through service and to use the leadership skills I have developed in whatever way I can. Two of my favorite ways to lead and serve my community are through my church and through my high school football team. I volunteer as a student athletic trainer at Puckett High School. I love this job. Because of it, I have gained an abundance of knowledge I will need for my future profession, I have given back to my school and community in so many ways, and I have made life-long friendships with the each member of the football team, some of which I would almost consider family. I knew I wanted to participate in this wonderful opportunity the first time I ever saw a high school age girl administering to an injured players needs.
Caring for the elderly is an activity that requires patience, willingness, due diligence and effective co-ordination of resources in order to optimally benefit the recipients. Community services and programs is one such avenue that caters for the elderly by providing for their mental, physical, social and emotional well-being, and by extension promotes a greater quality of life. Community services help meet the needs of the elderly and attract older people who face barriers to active living. One strong advocate of community based services and a program for the elderly is the American Association of Retired People (AARP) who relentlessly seeks to promote a healthy lifestyle for people 50 years and over.
There is no better feeling in the world than that which comes from helping others. During the course of my elementary school life, I was a member of the Cub Scouts. My friends and I learned to work together in order to accomplish tasks no one of us could do alone. We also learned that those with the ability to provide assistance also have the responsibility to do so. I eventually grew out of Cub Scouts, but I found other ways to volunteer my time. I volunteered at many different United Way events over the next few years, as well as seasonal events such as Treat Street and the Christmas Stroll. During my junior year, I was induced into the National Honors Society. I enjoyed volunteering with this organization because it not only reminded me of my youth, but also because I was once again able to work with my peers to make a difference in our community. I loved it so much that I decided to run for President the next year. As soon as I was old enough, I took the job of working at the Chamber of Commerce. I love my job so much because it allows me to interact with those coming into my community. The very first time that someone drives into Butte Montana, they stop into the visitor center to see me. I get to show people how wonderful my town is, and make its history come alive. I do my best to assist any person that needs me, be it friend of stranger. Your legacy lives on in the lives that you touch in your
Without missions and service in my life, I would not be the person I am today. The summer before my freshman year, I traveled on my first mission trip. My youth group and I went to New Orleans to help with the continuation of providing relief for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Not only did this trip put me outside of my comfort zone, I also discovered my passion for service. Since my trip to New Orleans, I have contributed a lot of my time to the service of others. I have assisted with building a deck in West Virginia, helped at a daycare center in Philadelphia, was a junior counselor at a middle school camp, and this past summer I went to the Dominican Republic to mentor teenagers. Locally, my church has a monthly soup kitchen where I volunteer.
For me, service projects became a part of who I am when I was able to travel to Haiti after my sophomore year of high school. Before anyone arrives to a third world country they must prepare themselves. However, no textbook or website would prepare for the next week of my life. While in Haiti, we helped to construct a school for the local children that would also double as a church. I am not going to lie, the heat in Haiti is the worst I have ever had to
...I feel that I have given so much to serve my community and in doing so indirectly I have gained so much my self. I have gained friendships, new stores of knowledge, empathy through shared experiences, listening and relating to people from various walks of life. I feel very fortunate to have served in all the areas of the community that I have served. The demographic I have worked with taught me to have understanding, flexible communication, listen, relate, and consort with people from all walks of life without pre-judgment which contributes to me being a nurturing, caring, and contributing member of humanity.
