Teaching is an action word. To teach, is the imparting, passing on, or transmission of knowledge by a teacher or other knowledgeable person. I am pursuing my teaching degree to impart knowledge. Teaching does not have geographical, demographic, social or economic limitations. I will teach anywhere to anyone, my decision is to teach anywhere in Alaska. There are children all over my state that seek to learn. Where learning is desired teaching is required. I will advance education in Alaska by implementing various skills. These skills are as follows but are not limited to: culturally relevancy, knowledge in several content areas of math, literacy, science, social studies, and life skills. If given the opportunity I want to teach in rural Alaska, imparting life skills that is paired with textbook knowledge is my method to make connections between home and school life. I will employ multiple techniques to develop learning that is not only consciously motivated by student’s curiosity and inquisition but also promotes sub-conscious learning through play and experimentation. I seek to have a multi-aged classroom where my students view themselves as learners and teachers. By developing my student’s ability to learn they will see others a resource to add to their knowledge by acquiring information, skills, values and behaviors they would have otherwise not acquired if not learned from another more knowledgeable. Older students have more life experience that can be shared and modeled for their younger peers, skills such as modeling appropriate behaviors for different situations, sharing their advanced educational knowledge, or sharing their own individual interest. Like wise the younger generation can impart the value of liberated ... ... middle of paper ... ...I feel that I have given so much to serve my community and in doing so indirectly I have gained so much my self. I have gained friendships, new stores of knowledge, empathy through shared experiences, listening and relating to people from various walks of life. I feel very fortunate to have served in all the areas of the community that I have served. The demographic I have worked with taught me to have understanding, flexible communication, listen, relate, and consort with people from all walks of life without pre-judgment which contributes to me being a nurturing, caring, and contributing member of humanity. My life experiences, my heart for social justice, community service and education will be utilized to serve as a teacher in Alaska that nurtures students academic success, commitment to community, care for others, and progressive self and community growth.
