What does the organization/group you volunteered for do for the community?
The Eagle Scout Project and the Webelos Experience I volunteered for are both through Boy Scouts. Boy Scouts is a program which children from 11-18 join, while Cub Scouts are 7-11. At the Webelos Experience Boy Scouts help run stations for the Webelos. Webelos is the highest rank in Cub Scouts. This program teaches the values of citizenship and leadership among many things. We can see these values spillover into the real word as many people who have accomplished great things were in the Boy Scout program. These people include New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Barber Conable, the president of the World Bank, and even presidents Gerald Ford, and John F. Kennedy. Boy Scouts makes it’s participants better people and commonly volunteer in the community, such as food drives and helping during flag ceremonies at many places including City Hall. I also volunteered at my church, St. Joan of Arc. St. Joan of Arc is very active in the community and goes on mission trips annually, participates in the Mobile Loaves and Fishes program. Also St. Joan of Arc participates in a program in which the church builds affordable housing for people that are homeless or at risk of being homeless and/or people with low income.
What did you do for service?
For my service I helped build a Purple Martin House, run team building activities at the Webelos Experience, and helping at my church’s nursery. A Purple Martin is a type of bird that are very dependant on humans to help them survive. Building Purple Martin houses protect the Purple Martins from predators. When I helped build the Purple Martin House I helped install it into the ground. To do this I had to help dig out dirt to ...

... helped the community in numerous ways including developing children’s leadership, protecting the Purple Martin, and playing with toddlers. Developing children’s leadership is important to the community because these children are the future of America. These children will become teachers, government officials, lawyers, doctors among many careers. By helping build the Purple Martin House I am protecting the ecosystem which we all share. If we continue ignoring our ecosystem it will cause harm to all of us on the planet Earth. By volunteering in my church’s nursery I a help the community by taking care of people’s toddlers. All of this is considered community service because I am serving my community by doing all of the aforementioned activities. Also, I am making my community better doing these activities which proves further that what I did is community service.
Growing up, my parents and other influential figures around me modelled the importance of community service through their continual volunteer work and dedication to improving the world around them. Whether it be participation in a well-attended project or persistent contribution to a helpful organization, those aforementioned individuals were formative in guiding me towards a path filled with opportunities for having an impact on my community.
I equate service with helpfulness—assisting others. I help both my school community by answering questions and giving feedback and my community as a whole through my volunteer activities, the most enjoyable of which has been Habitat for Humanity.
Even to this day I tried to exhibit many of the life skills I learned through the Eagle Scout process. I believe that completing this has led me on to my future career goals in conservation. Boy Scouts has given me a great interest in the outdoors, and also taught me the importance of environmental stewardship.
...e school, such as; Pelotonia, Light the Night for leukemia and lymphoma, Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities, etc… For many of these organizations I have volunteered more than once. Volunteering at Light the Night has a story. For my 16th Birthday party, I wanted to have my friends and I volunteer in the day while having fun at night. So I had 7 boys and girls, along with me, volunteer for Light the Night, organized by me. The party was a huge success and a lot of fun. I look forward to organizing more volunteer opportunities for my friends and I.
My first experience that involved contribution to a community was in an organization known as girls as pearls. In this organization we participated in many volunteer activities, both domestic and global such as making dresses for girls in africa or volunteering at the samaritan ministry. Consequently, this early volunteerism experience influenced my involvement in the community as a high school student. I became involved in organizations such as key club, an organization focused in volunteerism. Additionally, I began to tutor middle school students and volunteering at the local church. Many of the volunteer activities that I have participate in involved children and this due to the reason that I want to be able to become a positive guide and role model for children. I want to contribute to their motivation of continuing their education and to reach for goals that they believe they can achieve. As a hispanic american I have been provided the opportunity of experiencing life from two different viewpoints which has provided me with various life lessons that aided in my development in becoming a successful and well- rounded
I have participated in several volunteer opportunities as a Girl Scout, singing Christmas carols at a local hospital, picking up trash along the beach, working at a homeless shelter, leading events for younger Girl Scouts and much more. These opportunities have influenced me to become aware of the struggles within my
4. Community service: Explain what you have done to make your community a better place to live. Give examples of specific projects in which you have been involved over time.Required
Community service is something that I have always engaged. In college, I worked with chemically dependent children as both a caretaker and a mentor. After I graduated, I taught at-risk children in a community youth outreach program. To remain involved and aware of the focus of my studies during my first year of law school, I volunteered at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center teaching youth their basic legal rights. Essentially, we strove to empower kids by providing practical information about the legal system and to help them develop more favora...
This year I have served 74 hours for Learner Leadership Council, 27 hours for National Charity League and 17 hours for New Tech High at Coppell. One of my favorite places to volunteer is at Cornerstone Closet where homeless adults come to get needed items and take showers. We get to help them find clothes, and necessities and spend time talking with them. Another organization that I spend a great deal of time serving in the summertime is Metrocrest. We put together the food backpacks for families through the Backpack Summer Hunger Project. These organizations reach out to other organizations and charities and assist with acts of service. Even on campus I have been able to serve others. Being a NTH@C Tour Ambassador has been an important way for me to give back to my school. I enjoy showing others our learning environment and the importance of what happens each day. By attending clubs on campus is also another way that I feel is a pertinent way to serve alongside others and celebrate their passions. School events such as ‘The Day’ and other school wide bondings also exemplifies service participation. It is a powerful way to show our connection to those around us on a daily
Finally I feel like I show service, which is the act of assistance, through my community service. I helped the school with the school play my freshman and sophomore years, working concession stands whenever I am able to, and helping the technology department at the school over the summer. I also help in other places in the community. For example every year I try to help put on a thanksgiving dinner for those in need with my church. This skill will help me throughout my life because it shows how important it is to help others.
Outside of scouting, I am very involved at various churches around the South Bay area. I have volunteered mostly at Journey of Faith church in Manhattan Beach; serving synonyms if at Vacation Bible School (VBS) during the summer, working the Audio/Visual on Sundays for the middle school and elementary school groups, and even operating the camera during church

Though, the concept of community service is not very new its importance has developed in the past few years. There are thousands of organizations all over the world that engage and hold millions of young people all through the world. People of all age groups, with a maximum number of youth are involved in the process of community service. Community-based organizations include; social service organizations, non-profit providers and associations that engage both young people as well adults as volunteers. The process is beneficial both for the individuals as well as the society. Without community service people would not know the meaning of charity and giving back. Community service can be defined as a service that is performed for the benefit of the public. Community service is not a responsibly or an obligation; it is a commitment. A person must want to do it with good intentions and not because they are being forced to do so. Basically, community service is a way for a person to give back to a community in which they live.
Fulfilling community service by volunteering has so many positive effects on the community. Serving in the community builds character and unity within the community.... ... middle of paper ... ... Mandating community service for high school graduation was the best idea anyone could ever invent.
These experiences have afforded me opportunities to demonstrate my gifts and talents that had previously gone undiscovered. Through different community service opportunities, I either learned something new about myself or I was reassured something. These qualities include that I am creative, reliable, open-minded, passionate, and an effective team player. Community service changed my life by developing my character through enhancing my transferable skills, which allowed me to see the world differently. Everyone, from all walks of life, needs to in some way, shape, or form give back to the community because it will not only benefit the less fortunate but it will benefit the volunteers as well. Additionally, I learned about the wide variety of resources available to help the community. There are so many resources out there that people are ignorant to like certain shelters and food banks. Ultimately, community service taught me the greatest gift I could ever receive, how to be
