Sometimes people need a break they just can't continue to handle the long hours of the work day the reason could be just them being tired, or maybe they have more important matters like a family,or even maybe health problems whatever the reason working fewer hours has many benefits. Although just like every other things to gain something you must also lose something in return. In this case you gain more time with friends, family, and studies, but you lose pay and may even irritate your boss. Less pay is obvious as you are working fewer hours so you get less money, which means your standard of living goes down. More time for leisure activities such as, friends and family gives you a closer bond with your friends and family. Working fewer hours could also irritate your boss, since you are making him either hire a new worker or making another worker pick up the slack, either way it will affect your boss one way or the other. Finnaly, you will also have more time to devote yourself to studies whither you're in college or have a hobby that you like to study up on, you now have more time to devote yourself to these things, but are they really worth it? Let's check each one more closely and the theoretical chain that may lead from these events.
As we already know unless you get a raise working fewer hours directly means less pay, and of course it means you can buy less things. Well when you make a certain amount of pay you make a standard of living for yourself, as you lose or gain income your standard of living fluctuates however, after your pay goes from being higher to lower your standard of living doesn't drop back down to what it was if you had made money before. For example, let's say you made 200$ a week, then you got a raise to 3...

...ut. First we have that if you receive less income, you will eventually want more. Second we now have the time to spend with friends and family which will result in feeling more secure as you will have closer friends to help you out in a time of need.. Thirdly we have the Employer irritated means harder work, which means needing more rest. Lastly we reached the conclusion that more time to study means less overall stress. So when we review these it's kinda difficult on deciding wither or not working fewer hours is beneficial or not, but of course that's something you have to decide based on your own living situation. Are you wanting to get closer to friends?, Do you really care about wanting more money? What about having to work harder? Maybe you need less stress by working less and studying? Well that's what you will have to decide based on your own living situation.
First let us talk about a notable difference between these workweeks their income. Having the high-paying job earns you much more money per hour giving you much greater financial freedom. This allows you to help pay for the important things in life such as your kids, better house, and much more. Then with a low-paying workweek your restricted more on what you can spend your money. Hal Niedzviecki stated “Despite his decad...
... social life issues. Supporting to these Todd et al. (1993) demonstrated that nurses with 8 hour shifts had a high level of satisfaction than nurses worked for 12 hour shifts. However, contradictory results were found in Stone et al.(2006) study. They reported a significant level of nurse’s satisfaction was revealed with 12-hour shifts than those with 8-hour shifts. Furthermore, in 1996 Golec et al. carried out a study to compare the effect of 8 and 12 hour shifts among ICU nurses. The finding revealed that the nurses with 12-hour shifts demonstrate less social and family disruption than 8-hour shifts. Nevertheless, 12-hour shifts reported more health, and wellbeing complains s than 8-hour shifts. In addition, the study indicated that although 12-hour shifts provide more days off, it appears to be insufficient to dispel the adverse effects on health and wellbeing.
Imagine being awake for at least a week straight. In the US military, many actions of suffering are given to their prisoners. These can include punishments such as sleep deprivation are put upon the prisoners until they crack under the pressure. During this punishment the prisoners are not given any food, humiliated, threatened, and mentally tortured. This action mentally and physically “destroys” the person. So, the question is, why are teenage students being treated the same way? All around the world high school are suffering at some point in time of sleep deprivation. They go to school for 8 hours, come home, do some homework, go to extracurricular activities, and then go home and do more homework. Then before they know it, they look at the clock and it is already
As the majority of parents work longer hours then other parents did in the past to
In the United Kingdom alone, about one-third of the population is sleep deprived (Cho, n.d.). What more when it pertains to the world statistic? From different cultures and beliefs from around the world, people are bounded by an increasing commonality- sleep deprivation. Unfortunately, most of these cases are untreated. In present times, sleeping has been taken for granted to the point that millions are sleeping below the suggested amount. It is a growing concern as people who neglect the proper amount of sleep now start at a very early age. People assume that sleeping is simply a regenerative process in which hours of present sleep can be gained from hours lost.
The low income workers who receive public assistance will seem to make more in wages but will lose money from what public assistance they were also collecting causing them to request working less hours to maintain what they would have received from public assistance. A worker with children who is paid $7.25 an hour will have a higher income than if they were paid a higher wage, but because at the higher wage they will lose the public assistance such as food stamps, welfare, and other benefits because of making the higher wages. This is causing people to request to work less hours so they can receive their public assistance benefits. Who seems to gain the most from a living wage requirement is the public employee who is in a union as their involvement with the union is a form of protection in the job market. The living wage laws can and will have negative effects as they can in certain job markets reduce employment opportunities for the low skilled workers or the workers without a higher education. Some employers will be forced to eliminate some job opportunities because they will not be able to produce enough profit to be able to or justify to having to pay the higher wage. The hardest hit will be the mom & pop or non-chain stores as they do not have the backing or income to support
On an average, a worker must make $18.92 per hour to afford a two-bedroom apartment in most places in the United States today (Network, Jolie Lee/USA Today). Additionally, most of the workers have to balance multiple job schedules, travel, and struggle to keep up their life going. In fact, according to the most recent available numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, (2010 Census) in December of 2011 more than 7 million people were holding 2 or more jobs. “In this world, nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” Benjamin Franklin (1789). In brief, people work and dies to pay the circle of education, work and taxes. The increase in minimum wage will indeed decrease a huge stone of stress of working enormous hours. The federal poverty line guideline for a family of four is 24,250 according to 2015 census. (Obamacarefact). Accordingly, a person will have to work 50 hours a week in order to fulfill the guideline. Whereby, $15 an hour will perfectly meet 40 hours work law without overtime or working multiple

Workers don’t have enough leisure time, and that affects their lifestyle seriously. Lucas points out 25% of employees always work straight from the morning into the evening and approximately 50% of people eat lunch at their workplace. Also, 40% of employees have to keep staying in touch after they have already worked for long hours. Based on those statistics, we can tell employees can’t leave from the workplace even though they’re on their break. In “Work-life balance holds the key,” Kristine Yang states that a 27-years old copywriter died after working for 30 consecutive hours. Employees need to balance the time of work and the time of rest. Sometimes, they need a relaxation in order to get away from the intensive workload. If they don’t pay attention for work-life balance, that might lead to some serious issues such as the copywriter. Therefore, Lucas wants us to consider more seriously about taking a break after working for a long
When students are working and attending school part-time the results can be good or bad depending on his or her life situation. Should you work or should you go to school? Doing both can be possible if you just work around your schedule, and give yourself time to do your school work and attend your classes. Students are increasingly likely to work while in college. Not only are students more likely to work, but they are more likely to work a full-time job while going to school.
Most people are familiar with the after effects of a night or two without sleep. Without sleep, people are less efficient and more irritable. It's even difficult for them to think. A recent study by the University of California in San Diego reveals that brain activity is actually altered following sleep deprivation.
Working a job while in college can give a student great time management skills. The years of work experience can also lead the student to being successful to getting another job and having good business skills. Research has shown that working less than 20 hours can actually help give a student an edge in college when compared to a student who does not work at all. "Part-time jobs seem to improve academic performance. Research shows students who work no more than 20 hours a week have higher grades and are more likely to graduate college than both those who don 't work at all and those who put in too many hours." Having a job can greatly help out with future financial issues as
Research indicates that long working hours contribute largely to stress and stress related diseases. Currently, employees are being put on pressure by the organization in order to achieve the set goals. Nevertheless, the employees are willing to work for longer hours in order to earn more money to satisfy their increasing needs (Gullotta et al., 2003:23). On the other hand, the organizations have been compelling their subordinates to work for longer hours as a way of punishment or increasing the possibility of achieving the set goals within the stipulated time. This aspect has increased the number of depressed people in the population. With many people being unaware of how to deal with depression, they are turning to smoking. As a result, long working hours have been associated with smoking behaviors (Burke & Cooper 2008:46). The most affected people are the young people. This behavior has increased the number of people suffering from cancer and other respiratory related diseases in the world. In addition, it has increased the number of people suffering from heart and lung diseases.
Nowadays in the era of globalization, students are encouraged to have work part-time that will create them to become more experienced in their future, teach them to become more independent and mature in real life. Although the students have enough money to pay their fees and able to accommodate the necessities of life but we totally agree that the working part-time should be encouraged because work part-time can give more benefits to students. According to King and Bannon (2002, p. 2), more than 50 percent of full-time students have jobs and “nearly 46% of all full-time employed students work 25 hours or more.” As students work more, they have less time to become engaged in campus life both inside and outside the classroom. Many students love to have part-time jobs. Their parents approve it easily as they are said to gain experience from working. However, having a job is a big responsibility for a student. Before, teenagers at their age were working to help their family because of poverty. Nevertheless, they were actually eager to study and learn at school for their future. It was not the same as the students nowadays where they are more likely competing to each other to have a job. Most of the students are working part-time jobs and some have the intention to work. When we are in any fast food restaurant, supermarket or shop, there are must be school students who are working. Besides, students can gain a lot of experiences, students should be encouraged to work part-time because they can learn new skills and learn how to manage their financial properly.
Lack of sleep affects us many different ways in our daily lives. Think of yourself as a battery, and you’re using all the energy. After you 're done using the energy, you have to charge it. Humans are just like batteries when it comes to sleep. We use all of our energy in the day time doing our daily activities. Like a battery, if you don’t rest or charge yourself up, you’re not going to function very well. It is necessary to have a satisfying amount of sleep. Lack of sleep will affect you in ways such as: mood swings, loss of focus, change in behavior, and difficulties in everyday tasks.
