In psychology you learn about several things that also apply in every day life that may or may not run your life and you could not even know about it. Here are a few examples about how the small things in my life control my life in good and bad ways. I will be explaining how stress, classical conditioning, anxiety, negative reinforcement, and positive reinforcement can affect your life and the lives of others around you.
Stress- stress plays a huge factor in my life. As it does many the definition of stress is “a force exerted when one body or body part presses on, pulls on, pushes against, or tends to compress or twist another body or body part; especially: the intensity of this mutual force commonly expressed in pounds per square inch” stress is in my every day life in my every day routine. I go to school and focus hard all day and then end it with work and although I am only eighteen I do stress probably a lot more than a normal eighteen year old should. My mom on the other hand has a different kind of stress she is a store manager of the retail store Kohl’s so she has to focus on everything at one time. What her employees are doing what she needs to be doing and if she’s doing everything right. She also has to stress about paying bills and making sure they are out on time. And thankfully her kids are all grown because if we weren’t she would then be dealing with the stress of little kids needing her loving attention. There are many different reasons to stress all valid reason. Everyone stresses it is just something that we all do, we are all human right? We all make mistake. Although it is very bad for your body. Stress cam break you down faster than anything will you have to be careful and know you are stressing don mana...

...f doing things and also make it fun for them. There are a lot of interesting things to know about psychology and how they all can apply to your life, sometimes I find it overwhelming but at the same time fascinating, in psychology I didn’t only learn about the human but I learned about myself and all these things in this paper and by learning those things it has helped me learn to cope with some of my problems and make my life that much easier.

The study of psychology began as a theoretical subject a branch of ancient philosophy, and later as a part of biological sciences and physiology. However, over the years, it has grown into a rigorous science and a separate discipline, with its own sets of guidance and experimental techniques. This paper aims to study the various stages that the science of psychology passed through to reach its contemporary status, and their effects on its development. It begins with an overview of the historical and philosophical basis of psychology, discusses the development of the various schools of thought, and highlights their effects on contemporary personal and professional decision-making.
Learning about psychology has positive effects especially in my life. The concepts that were learned in class has helped me know myself better, and to understand my family members, friends, and people around me. Also learning how to improve my own personal relationships with others. Many of the topics in psychology contribute to the skills that can be used to improve studying habits, deal with stress, and tips to improve your memory. This course has allowed me to improve my observations skills. My observational skills include recognizing people’s facial expressions, and body language, and being able to understand how people think and behave can be extremely
"Stress is a natural physical and mental reaction to both good and bad experiences which can be beneficial to your health and safety." (8 Ways Stress Is More Dangerous Than You Think) Everyone 's body responds to stress by releasing hormones, also, you brain receives more oxygen. Stress starts to occur when we become worried about a task or responsibilities we face. Major stress is called chronic stress. It can cause symptoms that can affect your health in a larger way. Some people may say that they succeed more under stress, but sadly, that’s rarely the case. Research has shown that "stress makes a person more likely to make mistakes" (Stress Symptoms, Signs, & Causes). For most people, stress is extremely normal for them that they don 't see it as anything but ordinary. However, stress can motivate someone while under pressure and even get you through a tough or dangerous
For instance, i had bad habits, like not sleeping enough or planning terribly my studying for an exam and also high anxiety. Especially nowdays, stress is apparent in our everyday lives. It can come down hard on us sometimes, or not so bad. Psychology explains us why stress happens or how to handle it. When it comes to me, cannot say i am not stressed anymore since i started studying psychology. But i can say that i am now familiar with what it really is and know how to handle it, for example with breathing exercises. I have understood why too much stress can harm, the different types of stress, and i can say for sure that before i got to have a taste of this study it was a lot harder to understand these
Stress is a different for every individual and culture plays a role in the way an individual deals with it. Stress causes the body to lose its internal balance known as homeostasis. Homeostasis states the ideal levels of the body functions in order to maintain its balance (Gerung, 2014). The passage of time changes what stresses individuals. In ancient times, stressors were physical and considered acute and short-term. Such as considering their protection form invading tribes and looking out for predators. The modern times perceives stressors as chronic and long-term. Although now, stress invades through the death of close friends and family, relationships, habit changes in eating, sleeping, social, and pregnancy. The continuous stressers of
“Putting Psychology to Work for You” was a lecture by two psychologist speakers: Deborah Licht and Misty Hall. Both speakers are psychologists and professors at a community college in Colorado. I found this lecture to be moderately interesting; I enjoyed the activities they did in order to draw in the audience, but I also felt that they tried to discuss too many topics in a short period of time rather than simply focusing on a couple main points. The activities were perfect ways to help the audience have a better understanding of how psychology can work in our everyday life, such as the one question ice breaker activity or the multitasking test or determining if someone has a fake or genuine smile activity. The speakers did an excellent job explaining
Stress is defined in the dictionary as “state of mental tension and worry caused by problems in your life”. Everyone encounters stress in their life caused by many different variables in life and we all cope with in different ways. The way one copes with the stress is how it can affect our body. Some take to working out, eating healthy, take breaks from what is stressing you out and getting plenty of sleep which are good ways to cope with it. Some take to other coping mechanisms that are not very great for the body. Some examples are stress eating, abuse of drugs and alcohol, bottling up the stress, and depression. These bad methods can cause serious damage to one’s health on the body.
Knowing psychology can help you in your everyday life. I believe that you are able to apply it to many situations and make it the best you can. I really look forward to earning more in depth about many of these topics in psychology, especially social psychology.
Everyone deals with stress at some point in his or her life. Most people deal with it daily. As defined in the book called Principles and Labs for Fitness and Wellness, stress is, “The mental, emotional, and physiological response of the body to any situation that is new, threatening, frightening, or exciting” (Hoeger & Hoeger, 2012). This stress is caused by a stressor, which is also known as “a stress-causing event” (Hoeger & Hoeger, 2012). Stressors can take all different forms, from moving to a new town, having a baby, or even writing a paper (Boyd, Wood, & Wood, 2011). One major stressor in life can be going to college. If not coped with properly, these stressors can leave a person with too much stress that could end up harming them mentally and physically, such as developing an illness (Boyd, Wood, & Wood, 2011). There are several ways to cope with stress. Some healthy ways to cope with stress would be practicing emotion-focused coping, building time-management techniques, and practicing meditation.
Changes, such as sudden trauma, several big crises, or many small daily hassles, cause stress. Intense stress years earlier, especially in childhood, can predispose us to over-react to current stress. Events, such as barriers and conflicts that prevent the changes and goals we want, create stress. Having little control over our lives, e.g. being "on the assembly line" instead of the boss, contrary to popular belief, often increases stress and illness. Many environmental factors, including excessive or impossible demands, noise, boring or lonely work, stupid rules, unpleasant people, etc., cause stress. Conflicts in our interpersonal relationships cause stress directly and can eventually cause anxieties and emotional disorders.
There are also many causes of stress one of them is being too busy. According to Smith articles Stress symptoms signs and causes, being too busy is one of the most common stressors. A stressor is problems or items that may cause stress to a person. Eminem show this in his songs when his daughter was asking for his attention he reply by saying “go play Hailie, baby, your Daddy's busy”. Eminem just like a lot of people was too busy for his child. Many people ‘too busy’ is them working other people ‘too busy’ is them talking on the phone, playing video games, or something of that nature. I too am guilty of this. There have been times when I have been babysitting and was too busy playing the game to realize what the kids were doing. A few minutes of silence from them made me go check on them. When went to go see what they were doing I was shock to find that kids had the whole room covered in baby oil and powder. Being too busy could have cause a lot of harm to the children. They could have gotten into bleach or a harmful substance and seriously hurt themselves. Stress can also lead into depression if left alone. That brings me to my second point that being
Stress is more than just worrying about something little. Stress can cause major health problems and even in extreme cases death. Stress is the body’s way of responding to an event in your life. When the body is feeling stressed out it releases chemicals into the blood. These chemicals provide energy to fight or escape a physical event. However, when stressing over things the body can not fight or escape which means the chemicals now have no place to go. This causes your heart to work harder and blood pressure to rise. Stress can cause a big variety of things to happen to your body and mind. Headache, high blood pressure, insomnia, teeth grinding, and weight loss or gain are just few things to happen when the body is stressed. Some people are more at a greater risk than others. Women are at greater risk than men are. Elders, genetic predisposition early separation from parents or childhood neglect may cause more stress. PTSD is a major stress disorder that some doctors have said and done studies on that it could be hereditary. There are different types of stress that can occur on the body (“Stress”).
Stress is defined as “any circumstance that threatens or is perceived to threaten one’s well-being and thereby tax one’s coping abilities” (Weiten & Lloyd, 2006, p. 72). Stress is a natural event that exists literally in all areas of one’s life. It can be embedded in the environment, culture, or perception of an event or idea. Stress is a constant burden, and can be detrimental to one’s physical and mental health. However, stress can also provide beneficial effects; it can satisfy one’s need for stimulation and challenge, promote personal growth, and can provide an individual with the tools to cope with, and be less affected by tomorrow’s stress (Weiten & Lloyd, 2006, p. 93).
Psychology is the scientific study and practical application of observable behavior and mental processes of organisms. Psychology differs from other social sciences such as: Sociology, History, or Economics, because psychology specifically deals with the study of an individual. The other social sciences will study groups, or history. Psychology is less a science of reported findings, it attempts asks and answers questions using observable behavior and what can be determined as mental processes of the subject. The symbol for psychology is the Greek letter “psi” (Ø). The subject matter of psychology is, affect, behavior, and cognition. The affect for psychology is the actual mental processes that make up: moods, feeling, and emotional state. An example for affect would be feeling sad about something happening. Behavior includes the actually actions and responses of organisms. Behavior can include the way we act in any given situation, for example when we get up in the morning. The order in the way we prepare ourselves for going out into public can be categorized as our behavior. Cognition is the actual mental events and the processes that result from them. Memories of an event are a great example of an organism’s cognition. The components and corresponding faces of psychology include the body of knowledge which is considered the teaching face, set of investigative methods or research face, and array of techniques the therapy face. The goals of psychology are: to explain behaviors, to describe behaviors, to predict behavior, and to modify inappropriate behaviors. Explaining behaviors would be a question similar to “Why does this happen?”, and example of how describing behavior could be accomplished would be asking “What causes this behavior, where does it come from?”. Predictions can be elaborated on by asking “When will the behavior occur?”. An example of a behavioral modification question is “What can be changed in the environment to alter this behavior?”. A specialized subfield of psychology that most interests me is, Forensic Psychology, because it would be appealing to me to understand a potential criminal mind and to make the determination if the criminal was sane at the time the crime was committed or if he/she was operating with full judgment. In studying the 9/11 attack on America, a Forensic Psyc...
