For a coach to be an effective sports leader they would need to have full knowledge of sports skills. This is because for them to be able to teach it effectively they would have to understand all aspects of the skill to teach it in sections and to make sure that they are carrying it out safely. For the team or individual, knowing important skills will have a big impact on performance as by including advanced skills will reflect a better performance.
Knowing the rules of the sport being taught is important for a sports leader to know as it can have a big impact on game decisions and the outcomes of the game. This is due to if the coach is unaware of rules being broken such as ‘off-side’ in a match, no free pass will be given and it could give

One of the most common laws in football is the disallowing of any kind of drug taking that will help to enhance an athlete’s performance.
Specific participants may have medical conditions such as asthma. It is vital that a sports leader is aware of this and carry the participants inhaler at all times. This helps in bringing a more relaxed environment to the training sessions and matches as a coach will become less oppressive. Once a strong working friendship is formed the players will open up more and a coach will become as an emotional support, not only about sport and they will value the advice more.
An important role of a sports coach is to be a motivator. A motivator is someone who encourages and creates an incentive for someone, such as a performer, to do well. A motivator may prompt a performer by emphasising their progress in a positive way such as praising them on a good performance therefore inspiring them to want to do well again.
Being an instructor is an important role as they are responsible for teaching an individual performer or a team the rules and techniques of a specific sport. An instructor must also need to have good communication skills to be able to interconnect with the team and get across information, be able to realise where the individual or team needs improving, form drills that are beneficial and arrange training sessions to improve the
Coaching is an integral part of helping achieve one’s maximum abilities. Dr. Gawande (2013) explains that, “Coaches are not teachers, but they teach. They’re not your boss—in professional tennis, golf, and skating, the athlete hires and fires the coach—but they can be bossy” (p. 3). It is difficult to say what is the exact function of a coach, however, they help bring forth another point of view different from our own and they also help bring about the right mindset in order to subdue a weakness.
As I have asserted, coaching is far more than winning or losing. A coach is an essential cog in shaping qualities such as sportsmanship, competitiveness, self discipline, and work ethic. A quality coach can build a player up while a bad coach can tear them down. My goal as a coach was to always leave the player striving to be the best they could be. A good coach
However, this is not really a direct correlation to the coach’s effectiveness in a particular sport, being that there are many other factors in coaching a team other than game records. The coach’s job is to enhance the athlete physically, socially, and psychologically, winning is only considered a by-product of that job (Gillham, Burton, & Gillham, 2013). Gillham, Burton, and Gillham (2013) focused on developing a Coaching Success Questionnaire-2 to allow a means of evaluating other aspects of a coach’s interaction with their athletes as both a research and coach development tool. A sample group of athletes at the varsity and club level ranging from ages 18 to 25 was used to develop the questionnaire by asking their perceptions of their coaches.
Any captain of a sports team must be committed and dedicated to their team. A captain must ensure that they are present and on time for every practice and game which he or she is intended to be at. Captains have many roles during practices, they are the first one there helping set up drills and organizing the practice. They need to make sure everyone is on the playing area on time and leading the warm-ups. The captain must lead by example by showing that he or she is there to practice or play his or her best and that everyone should give it their all, all the time (Mosher, 1981). They need to show that nothing else matters when that are playing or practicing; everyone’s mind should be strictly focused on the coach if he or she is talking, or the play they are working on, or the game they are in. The captain must be a strong leader and show dedication towards his or her sport.
To be a successful coach, the first thing a coach has to do is become well acquainted with the athlete. The coach should get to know the athlete’s life outside of track. If the coach does not know the person as an individual then he would not be able to coach them. According to a collegiate track athlete, “a track coach should not only improve your running, but he should improve your way of life” (Jones). I believe that statement is true. A coach needs to have that close personal connection with their athletes. Like a teacher would have a connection to a student. With out that teacher, student connection the athlete will not enjoy learning nor will the coach be able to teach the athlete. In fact, a coach is a teacher, and the athlete is a student. That should be true for all coaches, not just a track coach.
Coaching, however challenging, is a great way to influence the lives of others while also building their character. For as long as there have been sports, there have been people teaching the sport to the players and making them better at it. Coaches must have certain qualities in order to obtain success. One must also look at a coach’s motivation for his job, his passion for what he does, his methods for coaching, and how he became a coach in order to fully understand him. There are many questions someone may want to ask a coach about his profession if they are interested in coaching.

In today’s society being a coach can be extremely complicated especially compared to earlier years. Coaching requires not only many technical and personal skills but also has to include positive psychology that will affect all athletes regardless of gender, age, and race. After reading various articles this leads me to the question, what is a coach? How do coaches differ from one another? In addition are we forgetting the importance of not only coaching but the sports psychology aspect of coaching overall? Regardless of what you may have read or heard I believe not only do all coaches have their own coaching style but every coaching technique and style is different. Coaching styles and positive psychology are two techniques that can provide
Management and Leadership roles in Coach According to (Steven L. McShane, 2011) ethics is the study of principles or values that we use to determine whether an action performed by us or someone else is right or wrong. The ethical values that the organization has can either promote a good culture in which everyone chooses the right action, for example, they carry out the best action not for the good of themselves but for the betterment of the company. In order to have a positive atmosphere in which the employees can effectively carry out the goals of the organization there has to be a strong, positive, organizational culture in which ethics can have a large role in determining. Coach Inc. for example needs to have a positive organizational
ORGANISATION// Every sport leader should be organised and prepared for whatever they’re doing. You must have a clear understanding of what equipment you need to deliver each sports or physical activity session or event. Before you start the session, you should make sure you have all the needed equipment prepared, meaning you need to make sure everything you are going to use is working and aware how you use it in a safe and effective way. A sports leader would be organized by having the equipment ready for when the session began and would have the eact stuff for every game/activity in the sports session.
For example, a skilled golf coach can help learners get extra golf lessons such as how to overcome fear when hitting the ball in a tight angle and hitting a drive off the tee. The other important lesson is planning how to execute assignments independently through drills, workout and practice plans. Once a player has recognized and appreciated the importance of having a golf coach by his side. It is important to know how to find and hire top golf instructors to guide the player because having a right instructor can make a huge difference in the
Motivate the motivation, simple words that can mean some much to an athlete, but what is motivation really? In the games and sports, psychological and physiological factors play an important role in determining the performance level (Grange & Kerr, 2010; Schilling & Hyashi, 2001). Motivation also plays an important role in determining the performance level an athlete, but plays a role in the psychological and physiological factors as well. Motivation is more than a behavior or idea, it is an impact on how we interact with others, how we process defeat, feel, and how we play. Motivation will not only help an athlete get the starting position or gain an award but more importantly, help an athlete reach their potential. Motivation like most things
The word coach in a dictionary means a process that enables learning and development to occur and thus performance to improve. This means, being successful requires a knowledge and understanding of the process as well as the variety of styles, skills, and techniques that are appropriate to the context in which the coaching takes place. Next is mentoring, which means off-line help by one person to another in making significant transitions in knowledge, work or thinking. Both are very efficient whenever you’re dealing with student-athletes. However, mentoring, particularly in its traditional sense, enables an individual to follow in the path of an older and wiser colleague who can pass on knowledge, experience and open doors to otherwise out-of-reach opportunities. Coaching, on the other hand, is not generally performed on the basis that the coach has direct experience of their client’s formal occupational role unless the coaching is specific and skills focused. Given that shows there are professionals offering their services under the name of mentoring who have no direct experience of their clients’ roles and others offering services under the name of coaching who do. In other words, it is essential to determine what needs are productive, and to ensure that the coach or mentor can supply their student-athletes with the level of service that is required; whatever that service is
To conclude is that most people to communicate with the coach but the more you can connect with them the better you are to perform in your sport. These are some reasons why people should learn this
The usage of performance-enhancing drugs in sports is commonly known as Doping. Doping is banned worldwide in every sports administration and competitions and doping gives an unfair advantage to those using illegal substances, such as steroids to boost their performance. It also puts at stake the integrity of those athletes who do not use performance-enhancing drugs also known as “clean” athletes. In fact it seems that we’re now entering the era of performance-enhancing drugs within professional sports. Doping rids the true athletes of what they truly deserve and is wrong; because why should those who put in a hundred per cent of their effort, be outshone by individuals who are choosing to use substances to enhance their physical and mental abilities? Doping damages the sports industry as a whole because it has a serious physical and mental effects on the athletes, as well as damaging the idea of sportsmanship and it also breaks the trust of the fans, as they realise their idols are hypocrites.
