Educational leaders should be current with the renewing trends in education. As the society we live in is changing, so much the way we educate our students. An effective educational leader should be able to show the importance of having a shared vision. The perspective of collaboration should be encouraged from the top down. Having the consensus building and negotiating skills shows that the educational leader values the idea of having a shared vision where stakeholders have a same in the processes of development and implementation. When all stakeholders have a say in the creation of the school’s vision, they have more ownership in the processes and are more inclined to contribute to the success of the school.
Modeling building negotiation skills are essential to making stakeholders feel that their ideas are heard. When an idea is suggested, the principal’s role is to mediate and discuss the pros and cons. The negotiations skills also come during collective bargaining. While some circumstances the educational leader cannot serve on negotiation, they may need the skills. Being able to negotiate makes the faculty and staff happier to know that their voice was heard and that they were able to come up with an

They are a figure that is representing the school and the vision of the school. The school day runs well beyond dismissal with after school activities taking place. The schools leader is should be present at all after school functions like sports, clubs and community events. By being part of the various activities that extend beyond the school day, the school leader is able to build stronger connections with all the stakeholders. The influences and responsibilities of the school leader are more to monitor and to support the efforts of the personals that are running the various activities. Leaders should exert a positive influence on the member’s school. A real leader strives to train and aid others to attain the same objective. No matter what power exists, you are ineffectual without the guidance of a leader. The NJHS is completely made up of leaders that will make their school a better place.
As a leader candidate, I can understand the challenges and multiplicity of complications that administrators must face each day. However, I will not accept any remote possibility that the students must be affected by some flaws of the school organization. We all as leaders, must be strategic with people, time, and money to guide our students towards an academic success.
Leading organizations of school administrators offer educators various opportunities to encourage educators to become leaders. No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) has mandated that leaders be better prepared for the task of providing quality education to all. NCLB “… is forcing all educational stakeholders to face the weakness of contemporary school leadership and is making it impossible to ignore the need for higher quality principals” (Hale & Moorman, 2003, p.1). It is believed that all educators can be and are leaders in their own right. A leader is a visionary and has the ability to inspire others to aspire to greatness. Of the numerous opportunities that are offered, those that are most beneficial include but are not limited to leadership training programs, professional development, and creating shared leadership opportunities for teachers to become leaders. The systems “…that produce our nation’s principals are complex and interrelated – and governed by the states. Each state establishes licensing, certification and re-certification” (Hale & Moorman, 2003, p.1). States use the ISLLC standards “…as the framework for preparation programs and in service professional development of school superintendents, principals, and other leaders” (Hale & Moorman, 2003, p.3).
DEVELOPMENT & IMPLEMENTATION OF A SHARED VISION: Education leaders facilitate the development and implementation of a shared vision of learning and growth of all students, (1C) Implementing the Vision connection to my action plan. I collaborate with key stakeholders with the intention of fostering a shared vision, one that is proactive in nature. Proactive interventions, such as the development of a BIP will aid in a shared vision of learning and growth for all students regardless of ability levels. INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERSHIP: Education leaders shape a collaborative culture of teaching and learning informed by professional standards and focused on student and professional growth (2C) Supporting Teachers to Improve Practice (2D) Feedback on Instruction, directly relates to my action plan as I will engage in open collaborative conversations with teachers, administrators, and essential staff members. I will conduct informal classroom observations with the intension of providing feedback, constructing classroom materials, dispersing information. EXTERNAL CONTEXT AND POLICY Education leaders influence political, social, economic, legal and cultural contexts affecting education to improve education policies and practices (6A) Understanding and Communicating Policy correlates with my action plan. I will inform all essential members of the current legal mandates established by federal law, as safeguarding student
One of the responsibilities of educators is to prepare students to be equitable participates in a society that is constantly changing. Educational leaders are responsible for ensuring educational practices support the current trends to ensure students are prepared for today’s world demands. The implementation of change results in a swing of the educational pendulum. The swing of the pendulum is unavoidable due to the changing demands of society. The focus must be placed on establishing an effective plan in preparation for the changes without compromising the standards of the teaching profession.
In School Leadership that Works Marzano introduces twenty-one responsibilities of a school leader (see Appendix A). These leadership responsibilities are used in the two change orders discussed by Marzano, McNulty and Waters (2005). “Some innovations require changes that are gradual and subtle; others require changes that are dra...
The last issue to address is leadership. This role is challenging, but with commitment and determination it can be done. Strategies that I can take to encourage great leadership is to first build trust and confidence by fulfilling the school’s mission, vision, policy, and working environment (Drexler, 2007) on a daily basis. To be involved in school activities, in the classroom, at PTO meetings, and community affiliations will establish strong leadership skills. Providing valuable feedback, strategically planning to improve the school, and encouraging community support are other strategies that can be used to enhance leadership.
There are a team of school governors and as a whole they are called the governing body. There would be from 9-20 people within the body. You Can become a school governor if you are over the age of 18 are a resident of the local community, parents, staff at the school, representatives of the local churches or businesses. They would help to run the school and make decisions and to set and raise standards. The head teacher of each school is ex officio a staff governor but he or she can decline the position they’re place would then become vacant. The team’s main aim is to provide strategic management and act as a ‘critical friend’ supporting work of the head teacher and other staff.
Our leadership in this world has changed and affected us greatly. Leadership is being about to lead an organization with many people and to have control in the right way. “ The Leader of the Future” a book by Peter F. Drucker gives us information on why and how it is to be such a great leader. We need better leaders and we need them to guide us and help us along the way. Without leadership, our world would be in such danger and we America would be going through a lot.
Education develops future endeavors; leading teacher to commit to lay foundational skills that build upon each year for students. Through the elementary, secondary and high level each person has the opportunity to develop wondrous relationship of learning. Through leadership
In developing my own educational leadership model (MELM) I began with establishing what I believe the goal of education should be, since leaders by definition are leading people towards something. The goal of education is to effectively teach students the essential skills and knowledge they will need to establish a productive, positive, self-sufficient life where they can be active members of their communities. An effective leader, while working towards this goal will need to consider the present conditions and demands of the environment they are a part of. In the field of education, both internal and external factors are of crucial importance when developing a plan to lead for success. However, one must note the variables in education are different than those the business sector face, for example; student performance, ability and cultural differences; availability/condition of supplies and materials; goal; educator’s capability, views and attitudes; conditionality of economic support; openness/hostility of influencing communities; state or government performance mandates. A leader who knows where they (students, school, district, community) are now, can approach goals more clearly and develop more effective strategies to arrive at them.
Due to the complex nature of the school environment all stakeholders’ key focus is inclusive of a shared mission and vision, and core values of high-education and academic success and well
The role of teacher leader has been defined as “teachers who aspire to stretch beyond their classrooms to engage in leadership roles that take many shapes and forms, both “informal and formal”. (ECS, 2010). Teacher leadership has also been described as “the process by which teachers, individually and collectively, influence their colleagues, principals, and other members of the school community to improve learning practices with the aim of increased student learning and achievement.” (ECS, 2010). In years past, a majority of teacher leadership roles took the form of department chair, committee chair, grade level chair, etc. It was more of a representative role versus a leadership role. Their responsibility primarily involved dispersing information from administration to their counterparts and taking information back to administration from the group. Their position lacked decision-making power and true leadership that brings about “real” change. These tasks are still viewed as opportunities for teacher leadership; however, recently, the
A leader can be defined as a personal natural / nurtures capabilities to influence, inspire and band together a group of people to achieve a personal or group goal. In my own view, education leaders are tasked with establishing a vision for school improvement, develop a system to ensure student learning and increase achievement, and initiate change to spur innovations.
Education is a very important aspect in the life of a child. The level of success a student has in the classroom is greatly influenced by their teachers. Students, as well as their parents, depend on the teachers to guide them through their education. But who guides a teacher to perform successfully in the classroom? Principals and teachers play an important role in schools. A good relationship among school leaders and teachers is necessary and play an important role in making improvements in the school. Leadership refers to the “process in which one person successfully exerts influence over others to reach desired objectives”. (Okoji, 2015) Good leadership involves honesty, vision, confidence and commitment. It is the ability to inspire a
