The purpose of school education is to attain academic accomplishment for all children in the form of knowledge, attitudes, skills, norms and values contributing to a better society. It is also means of getting higher returns on your education investment not only in terms of human capital such as intellectual, physical appearance and style, but also in terms of civic engagement and social responsibilities. Education is not just learning in school, but also takes place outside schools or colleges such as attending museums, engaging in community services and watching educational related programs. My sister and I came from an upper middle class family. We had our education in one of the finest schools in our residential area. Most of the schools in India are public/government funded and some of them are privates and international schools. Currently the ratio of public schools to private schools is 7:5 (Wikipedia, 2016). The local, state and the central government fund and control the schooling system in India .The funding and the control of the schools are from local, state and central government. The Constitution of India designated Hindi and English as the official languages used for communication purposes for the parliament proceedings and judiciary between Central and State Government (Wikipedia, 2016). The medium of instruction in the schools in different states in India are based on the regional languages spoken in 29 different States. Even though, my dad was supporting us financially, it was my mom, who was the backbone of the family and nurtured us with boundless love and ceaseless care in order to keep the family together (Noddings, 1992). In India, there are a few communities, giving more opportunities and preferences to a boy child than to a girl child with respect to getting a good education, selecting their own field area and participating in extra-curricular, cultural or social activities.
