Education is considered central for a good life that all of us strive to achieve and this is possible only when we realise the value of education and acquire knowledge through some procedures like learning because education cannot happen on its own and whatever learning we do it must help us acquire knowledge that is worthwhile and desirable. The process must enable a person to be able to reform oneself for the better and it must not be just a tool or means of getting a job but must be valuable in itself .If we believe that education implies value then it is not necessary that value should imply for education because not everything we value is education like we may value spending time with our families or learning music which is not education …show more content…
Hence it is important that we encourage creativity and thinking so that it enables and ensures values that are worthwhile since we cannot add extrinsic value at the cost of intrinsic .One of the roles that education must play is to help the learner internalize what they learnt rather than rote learning and it must help you change as a person rather than mastering a skill since education is not automatic it is difficult to gauge , sometimes when people feel that education is bad or a waste of time is because it lacks the desirability …show more content…
It must help you explore other cultures and perspectives and help develop capacities for self -criticism, with an ability to reflect and form a judgement on his own, but there may be problems in doing so like for example a thick curriculum may have domination of one culture that may restrict autonomy and there are chances of indoctrination and compromise on moral values so then what is a way out of this is something for all of us to think about .Will exposing learners to different ways of life help develop the ability to think and decide their own way of life? We may be not able to predetermine our choices but we definitely can have meaningful life choices to choose from hence it is important to build the rational capacities of learners to be able to understand that learning and knowledge are interconnected and one must be able to identify the differences between right and
We live in a society where we are surrounded by people telling us that school/education and being educated is the only way to succeed. However, the school system is not up to the standards we want it to uphold. There are three issues we discuss the most which are the government, the student, and the teacher. In John Taylor Gatto 's essay “Against School”, we see the inside perspective of the educational system from the view of a teacher. In “I Just Wanna Be Average”, an essay written by Mike Rose, we hear a student 's experience of being in a vocational class in the lower level class in the educational system when he was supposed to be in the higher class. Both Gatto and Rose give their opinions on how the educational system is falling apart. Today the government is only trying to get students to pass, making it hard for teachers to teach what they want. Students are affected everyday by the school system. They sit there - bored - and do not think that the teachers care, making the
What they neglect to realize is that most problems are unpredictable. So when a student faces a challenge not taught in the classroom, they will be incapable of solving or getting out of the situation. Once the formula does not work, creativity becomes a necessity. Some even fear the mere thought of imagination, since new possibilities open up the risk of failure or not being accepted. Students hold back their curiosity once they realize that teachers are unwilling to answer their question if it differs even slightly from the curriculum. These are the exact reasons our youth’s power to create fades. The value of creativity is beyond words; our society thrives on innovation. Take the stereotypical example of Bill Gates—he became a billionaire with the help of his creative thinking. So why would creativity not be the heart of our education system? Simply because there is not enough time or enough people willing to put in the
Education gives me the knowledge that I require to overcome any problem every day. Furthermore, it is more value when teachers and students are free to express their own point of view without doubts. Freire states, “Liberating education consists in acts of cognition, not transferrals of information. It is a learning situation in which the cognizable object (far from being the end of the cognitive act) intermediates the cognitive actors- teachers on the one hand and students on the other” (249). Fraire point is that the teacher and student learn each other when both communicate their ideas. Education is richer when both parts speak and argue over a topic than when only teachers talk and give their opinion about it . It is important for me to hear the point of view of everyone in the classroom because this is the way I build my own opinion. I do not always agree with everyone, but I respect the opinion of all. I rely on education because it aids me to master another
As for making the educational system more effective in a way of evolving creativity schools should provide special courses for all students in the beginning of grade school. Courses should indicate activities and interesting assignments that allow the students to figure out what they’re good at and maybe incorporate that hobby, interest into their career later on in life instead of choosing a career that involves no creativity and has no amusement to their
At certain point in our life, we go to school to learn. We don’t know why, but people told us it’s necessary and useful in our life. Being young, whatever someone said, we follow. We Sit in a classroom and listen to the teacher’s lecture for a few hours before some sort of break. Then we do the same thing again until school is over and we get go home. Althoug444h some might hate it, but school is one of the most important aspects of life. It doesn’t matter if one goes into a working class, middle class, professional class, or elite class school. We still are learning, but the materials we are taught is different according to the journal, “Social Class and the Hidden Curriculum of Work” by Jean Anyon. The brain gets filled with knowledge from all the people around him/her. In the article, “The “Banking” Concept of Education”, Paulo Freire describes the brain as a storage device. Our brains are like a bank and we intake information from others and we store the information deep inside our brains. Whenever the information needs to be released, the brain will search for the information and deposit it into someone else’s brain. I agree with Freire that we are being taught these days by the “banking” concept. However, this banking concept limits our creativity.
The education system has been a controversial issue among educators. Requirements of school do not let students choose what they want to study for their future. It’s a big issue to force students to study specific curriculums, which don’t help them improve, and what they like to create. Educators choose a general system of education for all students based on general knowledge. Intelligent or genius students have to be in that system of education, which doesn’t let them improve their creativity.
For instance, the laptop on my table, the money I haven my pocket, or the building I 'm being educated in are all forms of value created and spread of knowledge. Knowledge can be spread through language, reason, etc. which are all achievable through an education. Education is a way of seeing knowledge in action which furthers the application of knowledge as the students learn. An education can be considered an intangible good with a value, but with education comes the application of knowledge through teaching. It is understood through education that knowledge is not worth much if it is not used in reality or applied to physical items such as in the creation of books, food, or shelter. An example can be seen in most children and adults, which is their knowledge from others around them. As a newborn my knowledge of the world was extremely limited, but it expanded as I grew older because of the knowledge the individuals around me taught me. I was able to obtain new forms of knowledge daily because I either experienced or was taught new ideas through language that allowed me to place a value on the knowledge based on its use.
Obtaining it can also be accomplished in a variety of ways. Education, basically, is the exchange of information between two parties, such as between a teacher and a student, between a student and an article, or between two guys making conversation on a subway. Learning, researching, studying, and even teaching are all included as a part of the value of education. It may seem that, because there are many ways to go about getting an education, that it is easy to gain. However, you cannot simply read a book, a report, or a study and get instant gratification. In order to truly gain a good education that will stay with you into your future, you must apply what you have studied to real world problems or explain the information to someone else. This is why, in school, you are given papers to write, worksheets to fill out, and projects to prepare. By using knowledge that you have gained from your studies you gain a better understanding of that information and become better able to put that knowledge to use in your day to day life. In turn, this helps you become better accustomed to taking care of yourself and become more independent. Another benefit to education is that it can enhance your
Education is a vital part of society. It serves the beneficial purpose of educating our children and getting them ready to be productive adults in today's society. But, the social institution of education is not without its problems. Continual efforts to modify and improve the system need to be made, if we are to reap the highest benefits that education has to offer to our children and our society as a whole.
Using creativity in the classroom will create strong students and help better them for the future. Now, students are just being taught to what is on the test. They do not learn how to be leaders, how to work in groups, people skills, or how to use their mind that is not just for memorizing the information. “The challenge now is to transform education systems into something better suited to the real needs of the 21st century. At the heart of this transformation there has to be a radically different view of human intelligence and of creativity” (Robinson K., 2011, p. 14). Using creativity and technology will allow the students to enjoy learning more. I noticed in my final project, that other students who weren’t education majors, saw this problem too. Many of them did not see creativity in a classroom, they felt that the school system was creating them into robots that taught them all how to think a certain way. Ken Robinson feels that, “we don’t grow into creativity; we grow out of it. Often we are educated out of it.” (2011, p. 49). Teachers should be teaching students how to be creative, and how to think on their own, so students will be able to go far in the future and succeed in any job they
Education gives us the ability to change our life by opening successful pathways. Education provides us a better future because learning new things and majoring in things that we like could give us better opportunity. Education is the right pathway to a better life because it gives us knowledge that would help us in the future. Education should be prioritized over issues because education is always important. Education plays a vital role in shaping tomorrows’ leaders. Not only can we become a better nation by acquiring the skills necessary to be productive members of a civilized society. Increase knowledge to actively achieve and meet challenges that can produce changes in which are productive for attaining business innovations, political and economic objectives.
In our culture today, there is a huge emphasis on education, especially higher education. Society basically says the more educated you are, the better off you are. That is pretty much true if you live by the means of society. The basic idea that education, especially a college education, is something that people should pursue even into their adult years is not by any means a new idea.
