What makes a person and how are their personalities shaped? There are many things that come together to create a person’s character. One major factor, however, is their values; the things they hold dear and the rules they live their lives by. Values have a large effect on how we are creative and how we judge creativity. These values can also help create connections between individuals with common values and create new relationships. I personally possess many values that I hold dear and that affect my decisions from day to day. A few examples of these values include respect, self-sufficiency, and honesty. The value I mainly focus on is my value of education. Education is essential to getting everything you can out of life as well as …show more content…
Obtaining it can also be accomplished in a variety of ways. Education, basically, is the exchange of information between two parties, such as between a teacher and a student, between a student and an article, or between two guys making conversation on a subway. Learning, researching, studying, and even teaching are all included as a part of the value of education. It may seem that, because there are many ways to go about getting an education, that it is easy to gain. However, you cannot simply read a book, a report, or a study and get instant gratification. In order to truly gain a good education that will stay with you into your future, you must apply what you have studied to real world problems or explain the information to someone else. This is why, in school, you are given papers to write, worksheets to fill out, and projects to prepare. By using knowledge that you have gained from your studies you gain a better understanding of that information and become better able to put that knowledge to use in your day to day life. In turn, this helps you become better accustomed to taking care of yourself and become more independent. Another benefit to education is that it can enhance your
What is the purpose of education? A question that has been asked for centuries and defined in many ways; each theorist will argue their views on education is unsurpassed, yet it remains a question, that the future of our children depends upon. My personal philosophy of education is to create an environment that allows every child the freedom and ability to discover, create and pursue their interests; ultimately becoming the best they can, for an evolving and unpredictable future. Within this framework, the purpose being to encourage learning through children’s interests, by personalising education for the individual and interlacing subjects to engage and entice learning. While discussing my personal philosophy of education, I will explain the aim of education, consider the role of the teacher and the learner and present effective teaching methods and practices for within the classroom. This essay will demonstrate that Dewey, Friedman, Neill, Noddings, Robinson, and Zhao, support my personal philosophy and prove in contrast with the theories of Skinner and Rousseau.
What makes us who we are, what drives our personality? Is it driven by deep seeded sexual desires or is it something a bit more mundane, something that while we still have no control over, is easily studied?
The purpose of higher education is that it fosters and produces the skills and knowledge for individual self-growth, drives innovation, and challenges societal norms (Corey, Corey & Callanan, 2011). For an individual student, higher education is seen as a place that cultural capital is obtained or challenge, in which students are able to reconstruct their identity in society (Corey et al. 2011). Self-growth for an individual is not only limit to cultural or social growth, but also pertains to career exploration through the courses and the work related experience they are exposed to in higher education. For a society, higher education is sought out as the means of producing innovation, challenging societal norms, and creating an educated citizenry through classroom discussions as well as the inclusion of various different perspectives.
The word education is derived from Latin word “Educere” by Edex and Ducer, which means to lead, to train, to bring up to nourish. So education can be defined as “to lead out the inner potentialities of an individual. Literally it means to collect information or to provide information and utilize the capabilities of the people. The word Education generally means training or teaching of people especially in institutions called schools, to learn or to improve and develop the power of mind and skills. (Muhammad Saleem Naz , Education In The Ex,State of Swat).
How do we get educated? To most, education is an arduous slog through school; starting with simple stories about naughty rabbits swapping bologna sandwiches. As we grow, we move on to more and more intellectual pursuits- onward to ancient kings being depressed. By the time we graduate we are ready for a life as a ‘productive member of society’. One may find themselves wondering where that shift is from ignorant to educated. Most people will tell you it comes when you graduate high school, some will argue that it will not happen until you become a parent, others will say it never happens. David Foster Wallace and Mike Rose believe that being educated is not a matter of how well you have been educated, but how you grow as a person. Mike Rose’s life experiences illustrate this perfectly.

There is no one single definition for what education really is. Experts and scholars from the beginning have viewed and commented about education in different ways. The definition mostly agreed upon was that education is an acquisition or passing of skills, behavior or knowledge from an institution to another. This institution can either be a person, a school, a family or even the society. If we go in the ancient meaning and the ideology of education, it means to lead out of ignorance. In other words, education or knowledge in this sense was light and education brought the person out of the dark. The purpose and ideology of education is therefore to bring out the potential of a person and pass on knowledge

Someone’s history affects how they view their world. It affects their mindset, their values, and what they view as their culture. Kohls writes about Americans values being surrounded around themselves. Some of these values are change, time, individualism, privacy, self-help, future orientation, action orientation, honesty, and materialism (Kohls 1984). My interviewees value education in their life and their family’s life. Some characteristics that Kohls describes that contribute to valuing education would be self-help, future orientation, and materialism. Another value that was common between the people from different cultures was family. It is important to understand why these different cultures’ characteristics and family pertain to why they

My core educational values define what I believe is necessary tools students need to be successful. Such values are provided by the community of people (educators, parents, business partners) who touch the students’ lives. I value knowledge because without awareness of specific content, students are not able to truly feel a part of society. I value development of skills in order for students to apply their knowledge. When skills are applied, students demonstrate their knowledge and ability to function in our current world. I value critical thinking in our students so they can extend their knowledge and skills to solve complex problems benefitting our present and future. I value citizenship and feel that education has a responsibility to model and nurture character qualities in our students. Educating students is raising them equipped with tools that will enable them to function as contributing participants in a productive society. Knowledge, skills, critical thinking, and citizenship are educational values at the core of developing a student ready for the world’s challenges.
Understanding who we are as individuals can be a struggle for people throughout life. It can be difficult to comprehend who we are and why we exist. There are daily outside influences that help create who we are and what our values are. Values play a significant role in our lives. They shape the choices we make and reveal a big part of our identity to the world. Some values may be more important than others, but they still manage to influence our lives in one way or another, whether we know it or not. Values can range from a tangible item to an idea that has influenced us to stand by and remember those values. The values we hold with the highest importance act as a guide and help us prioritize our purpose and goals in our daily life. My family has taught me a list of values and traits that have helped me become a well-rounded individual. I value my family more than anything because most of my core inner values have started from their teachings at one point or another. My top values that I have developed from my family are dedication, honesty, and wisdom. I will discuss who I am in terms of the important values that shape my personal belief system and decision making framework that, in essence, describes the direction of my life.

Education is considered central for a good life that all of us strive to achieve and this is possible only when we realise the value of education and acquire knowledge through some procedures like learning because education cannot happen on its own and whatever learning we do it must help us acquire knowledge that is worthwhile and desirable. The process must enable a person to be able to reform oneself for the better and it must not be just a tool or means of getting a job but must be valuable in itself .If we believe that education implies value then it is not necessary that value should imply for education because not everything we value is education like we may value spending time with our families or learning music which is not education
