"How about I believe in the unlucky ones? If I don't I'd probably go crazy."(Laura Dern, October Sky) This could arguably be the most important line in the entire movie, in my opinion. This teacher recognizes the potential in every student, not only the ones with visible ability. This, I would hope, would be the goal of every teacher. Teachers have the greatest gift in the world - - the ability to help shape a student's life. Recognized and appreciated he or she can use that to present a world of opportunities to those who may not have had any. This was true in "October Sky"; the "Rocket Boys" were from a small failing mining community, where little expectations were placed on them and even less opportunities were available. When Dern's character was accused of giving the boys false hopes she held her grounds and continued to support the boys. This to me is an example of a great teacher, one who will continue to do what he or she thinks is right regardless of whether it earns her the disapproval of the rest of the staff. The movie "October Sky" gives a very positive representation of a teacher. She is a role model, a friend, a source of information, a defender, and a fighter. She is portrayed as compassionate, understanding, and very beneficial in keeping the students directed toward their goals. This would seem to say that teachers need these qualities in order to fully relate to their students. A teacher can not only be there for informational needs, but must also stand behind her students and be prepared to defend their rights to discover themselves.
As I read these articles, I agreed with almost everything that was said. The Great Teacher Question: Beyond Competencies, by Edward R. Ducharme begins with a sentence that basically sums up my reason for teaching, “I begin this essay by defining a great teacher as one who influences others in positive ways so that their lives are forever altered” (Ducharme, 1991 p. 2). Over the course of a student’s education they will have many teachers, but there are maybe only one or two who are THE teacher. The teacher who impacts this child’s life in a positive way forever. The place of women in Saudi society is determined by a deeply conservative culture, vindicated by a narrow interpretation of religion, and enforced by law. That place it would appear is at home, subservient to and legally dependant on their male guardian. Saudi society suffers from pervasive segregation along gender lines and women's freedom of movement is impeded, forcing them to rely on male chaperons.
Many countries have decided against having a totalitarian government system, but there still are countries that continue with running their country with authoritarianism. The Middle East persists on having an authoritarianism style government over having a democracy. Theories that prove to be true to Middle Eastern people of how a totalitarian government is better relate to economics, religion, and international involvement. People living in the Middle East want to avoid having political liberation because that can lead to a consistent and stable democratic government. Another reason keeping them from changing is that since their countries aren’t struggling economically, the citizens don’t see it necessary to elect new leaders. The countries in the Middle East region decide to continue with authoritarianism because the fear and pain is greater than the feeling of freedom.
Stop and frisk has encountered many opponents who think this tool is discriminatory and often targets minorities, specifically black and Hispanic people. For that reason, a federal judge ruled to use this practice more judicious after hundreds of complains against the police department. However, the community is calling back for stop and frisk since they have noticed that it is a necessary practice to keep a safe city. Thus, the problem regarding is the increase of violence in New York City due to the restriction and less use of stop and frisk.
Given the global economic restructuring and the shifting international division of labor, regions like the Middle East have become salient destination sites for many sub-Saharan African and South East Asian migrant workers. While past scholarship has focused on men-dominated migration patterns, current scholarship reports the increasing presence of women among migrant workers, particularly in the Gulf region (Martin Baldwin). In “Domestic Workers: Little Protection for the Underpaid,” Gloria Chammartin maintains that the number of migrant women have come to equal or outnumber men in recent years. Female migrant workers now constitute larger percentages of migrant workers in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, which include Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates. (470) For instance, data shows that more than 90 percent of Indonesian workers in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates consisted of women workers in 1997-1998. In 2001, between 85 and 94 percent of Sri Lankan workers in Jordan, Kuwait, and Lebanon were women. The increase in international labor demand across this region is mostly attributed to the oil boom of the 1970s.
The film from class that I most identified with was “The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.” Of all the films we have watched so far, this film and the readings that accompanied it were the most interesting and applicable to my emergence as a new teacher. I was most excited to watch the film because I love Maggie Smith and had never heard of this film. As I began to watch, I became entranced by her performance and by attempting to discover the message the film is attempting to portray. After watching and reading the associated articles, I discovered that the primary point of this film is to express how significantly teachers can influence their students, and that this influence is not always appropriate. Reading the article, “Teachers as Products of Their Schooling: Disrupting Gendered Positions” (Sanford, 2002) I synthesized this theory with literature and developed a specific conclusion. While it may be appropriate in some educational situations for teachers to express their viewpoints to their pupils, it is more important to put aside our own agenda to develop our students’ own viewpoints and opinions.
First, all great teachers strive to make a connection to their students like how Mr. Keating did. I believe that to make students do great things, teachers must have a relationship with the students. If I want to have a successful teaching career, I must shape minds like Mr. Keating, and not be an authoritarian like Mr. Nolan or the other administration. Obviously, the result of the movie is extremely sad and not ideal, I believe students should be taught to think for themselves and taught to keep learning throughout life. Although society may be resistant, I must help students become self-determining people who stand up for what is right, and aren’t afraid of going against the status quo. As the movie shows, sometimes the fate of teachers who do this is grim. Yet, I still believe that it is a teacher’s duty to give students the resources to be their own people. True change in this world can only happen if teachers are fostering a classroom of personal growth and acceptance. I am focused on making sure I urge my future students to leave their mark and seize the day. Although I may not do it in such a dramatic way as Mr. Keating, I hope that all the students that leave my classroom will feel confident that they can take on the world, and life self-fulfilled
I think teachers often forget how powerful their words are in classroom. Student look up to their teacher and take their commentary and critic to heart. This means a teacher’s words are always shaping and molding their students minds of education and learning. Ultimately therefore it is important for “teachers to instill positive belief messages always” (Boaler, 2015). When a teacher believes in all their students it is quite a powerful force.
Successful teachers develop the whole child by making integrated efforts to promote their student’s academic, social and emotional learning. Children need to be aware of themselves and others; make responsible decisions, and be ethical and respectful of the people around them.

Teachers serve as the guiding force in a student’s life. They are responsible for molding a student’s personality and shaping his/her mental orientation. Teachers deeply impact our lives and direct the course of our future. One cannot deny the influence of teachers in one’s life. In fact, it would not be an exaggeration to say that, till a certain age, out life revolves around our teachers. They are our constant companions, until we grow old enough to come out of their shadow and move ahead on our own.
There are many things which make a teacher great and they all can`t be defined.However i`ve always considered several of them essential.In my opinion a good teacher is someonewho first of all creates interest in studying,doesn`t underestimate the children,has equal expectations of siccess from everyone and last but not least likes his job.

First, I realized that, teachers carry a lot of weight on their shoulders and have great responsibilities. They have to balance the curriculum, students, parents, lesson plans, common core, and upper management and still maintain a professional demeanor. Second, educators must follow a strong code of ethics. They must be professional at all times with students and colleagues, keep confidentiality, not have or show any prejudice or bias, maintain safe and positive learning environments, help students with problems, and hand out disciplines accordingly. Lastly, I found that when you’re a teacher, your education never stops. Teachers are always trying to improve their own education and professional growth, both for the benefit of their students and for the benefit of themselves.
A good teacher is one that motivates the students to always keep trying and do their best. However, an ethical and virtuous teacher is one who changes a student’s life forever and shapes their character into becoming a successful and respectful human being. Teachers have an important part in our lives and they impact us every day. Not only do they teach us something new each passing day, they also give us lessons that we will use in every decision we make in our lives. Luckily, I was able to have a teacher who pushed me beyond all my limits and always believed in me. That marvelous teacher was my fourth-grade teacher, Mrs. Alvarado.
