Positive and negative effects of daycare in early childhood Cheyenne Siegler. Early childhood is when the child is roughly 3 to 5 years old. This is a crucial developmental stage when a child's personality, interests, and social orientation begin to come into focus. This is when parents should also remember that personality traits, personal preferences, and intellectual and academic abilities are not permanent for life during early childhood or any stage of life. A child learns from the environments around them and what they are constantly watching to try and copy, like social orientation, when a child is focused on voices and actions, especially caregivers. Children tend to learn from other children and the environments they are in. When sending a child off for hours of their day, they learn from what is constantly being taught while they are there and the punishments for bad behavior. Daycare is where a child learns social development and how they will respond to another child who they are not familiar with; they learn the rights and wrongs of interacting with others. They also learn emotional development; many children cry when being dropped off for daycare, knowing the people they are constantly surrounded with will no longer be there. children also learn the emotions of other children and how other children react.
