do with being able to use a few joints and body parts of the body to complete a specific motor skill. This can be fixed with having and practicing hand-eye coordination. In a pediatric rehabilitation center, I hope to have an opportunity to work with even younger kids. Specifically though, I might get the opportunity to work with a young child around two to three years of age that had a birth defect. This specific birth defect affected his right arm and is stuck to the right side of his body, and he has a hard time reaching out, using that arm when needed. This is a very important motor skill for the child to learn because he will eventually need to use that arm to write, put on clothes, or transport items. This child in particular or a group …show more content…

For a dynamical systems theory, I would have to make the exercises more challenging to see if the person has any performance problems. The theory deals with the environment and how it plays a major role for many athletes. In the sports that require running, obstacles may come in the way and the person will need to be able to use their body and limbs to adjust to the situation. One example would be that a person might be blocking another person from running straight forward, and the person will need to switch direction or go around them like the sports basketball and soccer. One other example would be for a person that runs over hurdles. The athlete needs to be able to jump over the obstacle that is in their way. In order to test this theory, I would place blocks or cones for the person to either run around the object or jump over when doing a small obstacle course to test their performance. The dynamical systems theory will show me if the person has any problems when facing with an obstacle and I can find different exercises for the athlete to do if they need to improve. One example would be that if the person is not able to jump over an object while they are running, I can have that person practice jumping over different …show more content…

For me, I will focus more on the movement on the ankle and its placement to see if where the athlete is most comfortable. I find it important for the athletes to give me feedback on how they feel so that I can see how far I can push them to achieve their goal. The specific characteristics regarding this situation is to focus on the weight placed on the ankle at the time of the cut that they performed and the way the athlete pushes off their ankle. Since the athlete is trying to get back into the sport, they might have lost a bit of the motor skill or they might have increased their motor skill because they do not feel as comfortable putting a lot of weight and force on the ankle yet. As mentioned earlier, I will have them practice the three variations of the motor skill. With this, it can be known as practice variability, which is having different variations of skill in which the person experiences different contexts in which a skill can occur or different movement patterns (Magill & Anderson, 383). The athletes will practice the three variations every day, but I will definitely change up the order of the routine and make it random. They will also work on the variations but with different games and activities. With this, it will help with the retention of the skill and give the athletes
