Response Paper 1
DuPont was originally founded in 1802 as E.I. du Pont, so named for its founder. This company originated out of du Pont’s interest in improving manufacturing processes and quality of products produced at the time. Over the last two hundred years this company has continued to thrive as an industrial leader throughout the world.
Over DuPont’s more than two centuries of operation, I believe their management objectives have evolved and adapted. Through this paper, I will look at how their present day objectives fit into Peter Drucker’s eight key result areas. The objective of management is to promote safer, greener, healthier living for the global community through innovation. This objective is clearly visible through the more

Owing to this, DuPont grew their revenue earnings by three percent last year (Kullman). The objective of the management in terms of their profitability is to maintain divisions that are profitable, expand to new areas that have potential, and separating from those that are losing profits. This objective is visible in their upcoming separation from Performance Chemicals as there profit margin took a down turn. Also, their acquisition of the Danish company Danisco has allowed them to expand further into the market of sustainable food and bio products …show more content…
The objective of the company in this area is to meet the needs of the local people and prepare for the challenges ahead, particularly in the areas of healthy food production and sustainable energy. An example is the challenge faced by China with its ever growing population and decreasing food supply. Through an act of social responsibility, DuPont partnered with the Chinese government and has committed more than $10 billion dollars in research and development for improving the sustainable farming practices and producing approximately 4,000 new nutrition and safety products by 2020 to provide a solution
Overall, we think advantages outweigh disadvantage but Sanchez should revise the proposals. First he should raise the equity percentage that Pepsi can receive. Depending on WACC, we propose to increase to 40%. Second, regarding to management, Deltex was long time Pepsi’s bottler and their relationship had worked well in the past years. However, with such big investment, we think Pepsi should take measures to ensure its strategies were taken. Those measures included Deltex should report its operations and strategies to Pepsi on the monthly basis, Pepsi should reserves the right to appoint half of the Deltex board of directors and CFO or other key personnel except operating managers. Also, Pepsi should be given a right of first refusal to any transaction in which Sanchez was to sell his shares as in Gallardo joint venture.
The Dupont analysis shows that every dollar of assets generates 2.44 in sales which is great considering it was already good in 2014 and 2015 and keeps improving each year, the equity multiplier is 2.516 indicating that ROE is generated through efficient use of equity and leverage of 60% that can be increased slightly to surge ROE.
In Problems in African Imperial Histories, historians Gan and Duignan,Walter Rodney, and A. Adu Boahen debated about the Colonialism in Africa. Each historian explained a different view on the impact of European empire for Africa. Walter Rodney and A. Adu Boahen viewpoints stood out the most. Colonial rule contributed to Africa’s exploitation and lead to socio-economic development. Rodney expresses the negative impact on Africa. Boahen explains the negative and positive aspects of the Colonial rule.
This case focuses on corporate obstacles to pollution prevention. Pollution prevention can complex especially for large corporations. There are many different forms of pollution prevention including emissions control devices and incremental changes in existing technology. The author reviews the impact of emissions controlled devices, however the focus of the case study is on incremental changes in existing technology. Incremental changes include substituting one or two steps in a production process or relationship changes between production steps. One example of incremental changes that was provided by the author was eliminating chlorofluorocarbons and saving energy by replacing a refrigeration process with a heath exchanger that can exploit waste cooling from another part of the process. There are three critical decision-making stages for incremental changes; identifying a pollution prevention opportunity, finding a solution appropriate to that opportunity, and implementing that solution. The author discusses the three aspects of an organization (culture, ability to process information, and its politics) and how they impact the decision-making stages.
Since World War Two, the demand for convenient food, ethnic foods, and fresh fruits and vegetables has risen as a result of increases in income and the prevalence of dual-income families, together with the desire for food variety and healthy foods. The agriculture industry works and develops to meet these demands. Into recent times, societies share a growing concern regarding the environment, climate change, food safety, and animal welfare. Pertaining to agriculture, these concerns question issues such as soil and water conservation practices, use of pesticides and chemicals in crop production, growth promoters, and livestock treatment practices in animal agriculture. However, the industry’s scientists continue to work and research ways to balance the industry and bring environmental and economic
We are all influenced by our schema, which is an expected situation structure formed from cultural background and past experiences. We expect certain scenarios to have certain structures, but that may not always be the case. In the given scenario, I am an interpreter that is contacted by the interpreter referral service and I am asked to interpret a performance review for a Deaf man. The Deaf man works on the production floor of the Gillette Company and I have never met him before.
Food Security can be seen as a wicked problem, because it has no stopping rule as it can be linked to natural resource depletion and climate change and is also therefore multi-causal. The European Commission believes that the problem will become worse due to their projected 70% increase in food demand by 2050, as a result of a growing population and changing diets (Freibauer, et. al. 2011)
The world in which the human race lives in relies heavily on factory farming to provide food to over seven billion people. This method of food production is deemed normal and efficient in today’s society, yet has minute advantages. If we took the time to learn the conditions and technicalities of how factory farming actually operates, we would discover that the overall effects to the environment and human health are detrimental. Realistically, people are not going to stop consuming animal products, so instead, people should be conscious of how their food is being produced so that they may be informed in order to make changes in their dietary habits to better their own well being, as well as that of the environment’s.
In order for us to maintain our lives, we need to consume food to supply nutrient-needs for our bodies. As the global population increased, the demand for food also increased. Increased population led to mass production of foods. However, even with this mass production, in under-developed countries, people are still undernourished. On other hand, in developed and developing countries, people are overfed and suffering from obesity. In addition, the current methods of industrial farming destroy the environment. These problems raised a question to our global food system. Will it be able to sustain our increasing global population and the earth? With this question in my mind, I decided to investigate the sustainability of our current global food system.
Many consumers and farmers have discovered that living in an industrialized culture where the focus has become faster, bigger, and cheaper is not the best way to produce our food. Obsessed with productivity, the agriculture industry is reaping the negative consequences of creating an unsustainable environment for food production. Time and time again, the media captures stories regarding deadly bacterial contamination and dangerous pesticide contamination causing illness and death in our communities. The environment is also damaged and contaminated. This devastating trend, due to irresponsible farming practices as a result of the industrialization of the food industry, has become all too common. Returning to organic farming, which our grandparents referred to as farming, and reclaiming our food is not only our choice, it is our right.
Increasing public interest for the natural world is driving business organizations to give careful consideration to their ecological footprint, not only in the commodities and services they offer, but also in the supply chain that conveys them. What initially began as a corporate image improvement strategy has developed into a business imperative and, in the most advanced organizations, a competitive advantage. In today’s global market, the expectations for business companies about greening supply chain are very great particularly the consumer electronics industries, thus, international business outfits are putting in lots of effort to ensure their supply chains are operating in a socially and ecologically responsible manner in order to remain competitive. A Company’s obligations toward environmental sustainability define its corporate image and relationships with clients, stakeholders, community groups, also influencing its profits in the long run. It is therefore of a great importance for ABC Inc. which has just stepped out of a major growth phase to green its operations and be more proactive in implementing extended producer responsibility (EPR) initiatives into order reduce its ecological footprint and at same time saving money.
Miles and Snow stated that there are four types of organizational strategies pursued by companies; Defenders, Prospectors, Analyzers and Reactors. Unilever are a company that uses the “Prospectors” organization type. Prospectors are organizations which almost continually search for market opportunities, and they regularly experiment with potential responses to emerging environmental trends, in particular when Vis was appointed to the Food Executive committee and began to emphasize more on environmental and sustainable development in response to changing trends and demands by consumers giving these consumers greater confidence. (Miles & Snow; pp29)
Peeking into a child’s emotional and physical activities could be possible with a pedagogical documentation which throws light on more such behaviours (Dahlberg, 2013). Pedagogical documentation refers to the study of teaching and learning that relates to the log of daily activities which includes, people, places and events to attain a deeper insight into the lives of children (Fleet, 2011).
In this Century, United States face tons of problems especially Climate Changes due of illegal process in Agriculture. Industrial Agriculture is a main farmland in Unites States. Most of the crops produced in large scale and livestock operation. In Agriculture, there are producers and consumers make the food system to work and grow. Producers are person, company and country that makes or supply products for sale. What I have learned about them is producers just want to earn big amount of money. They do not care about human’s health, they just keep making products that can danger people. For example, the factory farming without proper sanitation. On the other hand, Consumers, like us, are the people who goes shopping for food every day. Sometimes we just get the products and didn’t read the labels or nutrition facts of the food. Consumers didn’t know what is behind the process of food. In this essay, I will focus on the main problem in Agriculture that we are facing right now.
This can not be done with the same ineffective tactics that were used in the past, so that’s why people are developing new ways to eradicate hunger. When the Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2) was held, they discussed the nutrition component and how important it is that it is not overlooked. By paying attention to nutrient-dense foods and recognizing the different entry points for improving nutrition, the ICN2 argues the world will be one step closer in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal. Some of the entry points they discussed include “the promotion of crop diversification…, strengthening local food production and processing, and exploring regulatory or voluntary instruments for promoting healthy diets” (goals 2). Promoting the nutrition aspect of the goal can help achieve it because nutrients are what keep people alive and
