Drowning
The car screeched to a stop and dust particles flew in the air. I push open the door and look outside.
¨Whereś the lake” I ask my dad. My dad shows me a trail blocked by scary trees. I pull my long black hair into a ponytail and push my feet of the ground into motion. As soon as the trail comes to an end I see a beautiful crystal clear lake. I walk to it and observe it cautiously,. But I can't see what's inside. Slowly I put one leg inside and then another. The water is ice cold but I put my arms in and began swimming in small circles.
Are you sure you don't need a life jacket my dad questions me
¨Yes dad¨ I mumble
¨When will he stop treating me like a baby¨ I think and groan. My dad raises one eyebrow.
¨Can he read my mind¨ I thought and push of on a rock. It felt like I was in another world. I fish tickled my foot. So I put my head down and open my eyes.

I push out of the water for some air and dive back in deeper this time and open my eyes. It looked like a rainbow in front of my eyes. All kinds of fish roam across my eyes. Sure I´ve seen them in movies and documentaries and maybe a few in aquariums but never like this. I gasp and accidentally gulp in salt water
Eww¨ that tastes disgusting I think and rise up for fresh salty air and look at my dad he looks like he was shouting something and pointing to the life
In Drea Knufken’s essay entitled “Help, We’re Drowning!: Please Pay Attention to Our Disaster,” the horrific Colorado flood is experienced and the reactions of worldly citizens are examined (510-512). The author’s tone for this formal essay seems to be quite reflective, shifting to a tone of frustration and even disappointment. Knufken has a reflective tone especially during the first few paragraphs of the essay. According to Drea Knufken, a freelance writer, ghostwriter and editor, “when many of my out-of-town friends, family and colleagues reacted to the flood with a torrent of indifference, I realized something. As a society, we’ve acquired an immunity to crisis. We scan through headlines without understanding how stories impact people,

In the poem “Rainwalkers” by Denise Levertov, it is clear to see the speaker is showing that even with conflicting desires, one may be able to find content with who you are are able to work with it.
In “Death Over Water” by Elizabeth Rhett Woods, the eagle and the gull are similar to ice dancers in terms of their movement pattern and their advantages in the predation. The eagle and the gull and ice dancers maintain a short distance between each other. The eagle flies towards the gull and stays “above and behind it” (9) to utilize his advantages in the predation. Likewise, a pair of ice dancers often move together to perform lifts. The eagle following the gull’s path is similar to the ice dancers skating together. Moreover, the extended metaphor reflects their statuses in the relationships. During the predation, the eagle approaches the gull “like / the male of a pair of ice dancers” (9-10). The eagle possesses a greater strength and a

Raised fists and a fading smile usually follow the confrontation of death as we experience the first stages of denial in the grieving process. We not only grieve at the loss of a loved one, but at the loss of our own life as well. When death rears its ugly head, it demands this response. Whether through art or science, humor or ritual, mankind marks and confronts this passage with both defiance and trepidation that eventually turns into acceptance and submission.

"So anyway," I start saying, trying to take the focus off my super serious injury and the blistering pain in the roof of my mouth, "Dad, what's new at the office?"

Immediately, I angled my position and went for a dead sprint toward the water. I jumped off the cliff. I never felt anything like it; the trajectory had me flying through the air for longer than I expected. A surge of adrenaline pulsed through my body, bringing a new sense of life to me. The scorching heat went away as gravity pulled my body toward the water, bringing me a pleasant breeze through my fall. Then, I finally hit the water. I didn’t stick a solid landing, as I went head first into the water. I panicked and opened my eyes under the murky water, only to see nothing but dirt and sediments float around me. I kept sinking and saw a monstrous fish swim right in front of my face. At that very moment, my body went into overdrive, and I managed to project myself back up to the surface.
Diving into the Wreck Adrienne Rich uses diving into a shipwreck as an extended metaphor for a desire for knowledge and power. The author also uses imagery to allude to elements of loneliness and transformation. As the diver is preparing to enter the water, he or she, first reads “The book of myths.” [Line 1] The diver reads this book in a quest for knowledge and guidance; however, they know nothing is gained if they do not experience the wreck for themselves.
Stevie Smith’s poem Not Waving But Drowning, brings to light numerous parallels in the book and the play and it is alluded to several times. The play and the poem draw similar situation but towards the end leads into different endings. In the poem the man dies, this man we can associate with Sophie but in the book, we see that Sofie rescued, rescued by the man who was much farther out than her. This alludes to how in real life there are people who might be in more of a dire need, who are you can almost say “Much further out than you [think]”. Not Waving But Drowning embodies Bradie and Sofie’s situation, how Sofie struggles and Bradie struggle with depression, and how they connect and seek out each other’s help. Help they cannot give because

This week’s analysis is associated with the yoga class provided online to help with stress reduction. The first term that I came across was psychophysiology and how this principle is based on the mind and body being one and how our thinking affects all physiology. This principle was the perfect definition of yoga because yoga focuses on how the mind and body connects with each other. It gives you a sense of relaxation throughout your mind and body together. Furthermore, the yoga that was in the video was a yoga style called hatha. Which practices asana (yoga postures) and pranayama (breathing exercises). According to the book, this practices helps bring peace to the mind and body and prepare our body to do deeper exercises. The art of breathing was mentioned during the exercise and in the book. Breathing is very important when trying to unite the mind, body, and spirit. So, having slow, deep breathes was a main focused during the exercise. Another term that was used in the video was the art of stretching, which allows us to become aware of our flexibility of our muscle while moving. Lastly, the art of balance is significant because it allows us to move into the next form of position on both sides of our body. Some of the workouts pose that was mention in the textbook that I did was two knees to the chest, cobra, and head of cow. Overall, hatha
