Introduction Toronto is the biggest city in Canada and it is a city known for of culture, arts, entertainment, significant landmarks and many more. From north to south, this district is located between Queen Street West and the Gardiner Expressway. The location also includes Spadina Avenue to Bay street starting from south of Front street to the Gardiner Expressway (See Figure 1). This district is close to the financial district, Chinatown, fashion district, and the city place. Some of Canada’s biggest landmarks are in this district such as the CN Tower, Ripley’s Aquarium, TIFF Bell Light box and many more are in the entertainment district. The CN Tower is the most famous landmark in the district because it is the tallest building in Canada and one of the tallest building in the world (See Figure 2). The landmarks in the entertainment district was created for not only for an area full of entertainment, but it was also made for another purpose for the city. “The previous decade of neighbourhood politics had made inner-city Toronto attractive for investment in entertainment and tourism”(Kidd, 2013). Different kinds of landmarks in the entertainment districts are located in different parts of the area and show a certain type entertainment within the area. For example, the Roger Centre, Air Canada Centre, and sports bars are in one area in the entertainment districts, which attracts a lot of sports fan to come visit. The novel ‘What We All Long For’ by Dionne Brand addresses the more unexplored aspects of Urban life of first generation immigrant communities in the City of Toronto. She follows the life of Tuyen, a rebellious spirit in her twenties who has come to be disconcerted with the concept of longing in the city of Toronto. Tuyen expresses through the eyes of an artist – through her expression of an ancient Chinese symbol, the lubiao. In this essay I will analyse the concept of racialization and resistance in relation to Tuyen’s lubiao. Then I will set the historical background of the city of Toronto.
