The fear of the world ending has for a long time, even though the thought isn’t always at the top of our mind nor our biggest problem but it is still a worry that affects many. Whether it's an asteroid hitting earth, a zombie apocalypse, or a killer plague, we often think about what we would do when the world ends. We think about our families and our daily lives taking a turn for the worst. Some people even suffer daily from the fear that the world might end at any second and it's known as the doomsday phobia. Although most of us don’t have the doomsday phobia it is still something that we think about. Most of us think about the end of the world as only a sify movie while there are others preparing for a day that the syfi blockbuster movie …show more content…
might become reality. Fear isn’t always a bad thing, it's not a sign of weakness nor is it something to be ashamed of.
In fact, fear is necessary when it comes to making improvements and preventing things from happening by taking precautions. Along with the fear of the world ending, there comes plans for solutions. The ideal solution would be to colonize other planets. This idea has been around since the time of we knew other planets existed. Living on other planets for a long time was was just a thing for the future, it was something only movies or children with wild imaginations would talk about, but the future is a lot closer than we think. People see space colonization is the resolution for the problems here on earth. Colonizing in unfamiliar planets could be a replacement for earth incase someday it ends and scientist have been working on improving technology and making huge advances for the day that humans live on foreign planets …show more content…
possible. Plans for colonizing other planets have already been in action for a long time.
Elon Musk, NASA, and Nikola Tesla have all incorporated the first steps into the plans for colonizing Mars. Nikola Tesla let out his ideas to colonize mars and now Elon Musk and NASA are currently in the lead of many in the race to colonize this planet. There are ideas to colonize other planets but Mars and the moon are closest to our accomplishments. In 2011 a project was launched known as Mars One. The founders of this project, Bas Lansdorp and Arno Wielders, launched an official idea to send one hundred people to mars for a permanent vacation by the year 2020. Sarah Cruddas from the CNN website says, “The journey itself is expected to take around seven months and recent MIT studies found that, should explorers succeed in landing, using current technology they would likely survive only 68 days.” Crudas goes on explaining how the volunteers are ready to take on any risks for scientific purposes. Mars One is requiring the winning applicants years of training and isolation before being able to set foot on a spaceship that takes them to mars. Later in Febuary 27, of the year 2013 another idea based around moving to mars was proposed by Dennis Tito known as “Inspiration Mars.” The initial plan for “Inspiration Mars” was to send a couple into Mars. They require large funds that were never met and Inspiration mars was called off. The founders of project one had a backup plan known as “Plan B” which
would take longer to complete but take less travel time. The plan was to take a single craft within 800 kilometers of Venus and use the planet's gravity as a push towards mars. The plans are still in action and is said to officially launch in 2027. There are big plans for traveling to mars, and the thought of this is exciting but we’re not thinking too hard how it could affect us. Today space travel isn’t just for astronauts, it's something that everyone could do after special training. Projects such as ‘Mars One’ allow everyday ordinary people to travel space and live on other planets but the complications to space colonization are endless. Some of the many according to an article by The Week says “any child conceived and born in space is likely to be born steril…” Along with this he explains that spaceships can't protects us from all the harsh radiation deeper in the atmosphere. Along with those complications are also the fact that the recolonizing could cause military competition, death of the volunteers after a few months, and deformation in children born in foreign planets. There is great controversy on this topic. Two arguing sides where one is saying space colonization won't help anything while the other side says it's vital for our survival. The issue with space colonization is not that it's unlikely but all of the health risk that the volunteers may have. Throughout history we learned that inhabiting new places brought disease, deaths, and wars. When colonialism started in the Americas new diseases spread like wildfire. The trade with new cattle from the Europeans and the Native Americans cause new diseases unknown to one another. Diseases such as smallpox, diphtheria, measles, and many more. These illnesses were harsh and without the necessary medicines to cure them, around 10-100 million people died. The same things happened with the colonization of Africa with illnesses such as malaria and yellow fever. In an article from Boundless.com the author says “Trade routes and new world conquests devastated indigenous populations, while being exposed to new pathogens and newly domesticated animals... Furthermore, sexzual transmition of diseas grew with colonization.” The author explains the leading causes causes of deaths due to colonizing foreign countries. Colonizing foreign planets could have similar consequences although the diseases wouldn't be the same there are still high possibilities for new and more powerful illnesses. With colonizing new planets comes the race for control. In history we know that we as countries often fought for new and uncharted territory. There was many wars and many deaths that came along with this fight for power and control in new territories. Wars between Europeans, French, Dutch and many more were fought when the Americas were discovered. They fought for the power and resources they held. Mars has many uncharted territory with many new resources for the countries to fight for, but some may still say that colonizing on other planets is a good thing. The earth isn't getting any better and the risk of it being destroyed still is a possibility. Stephen Hawking said “I see great danger for the human race.. There have been a number of times where survival has been a question of touch and go.” He goes on explaining how we should start to colonize space for our own survival and wellness. Many people agree with Hawking but they don't see the difficulties that we are facing. An astronomy professor at the University of Arizona stated in an interview that people born in mars will be an “offshoot of the human tree” he also implies that they'll evolve into something else. The risks of breeding a new species, starting wars, and developing new diseases is a high possibility when it comes to colonizing in space. Colonizing foreign planets can have the same outcome that colonizing others land in history had. Living on other planets sounds fun but the consequences it could have are high and there is still a chance that those planets could get destroyed as well as earth.
So, the Lake County High School student body was told today by Jimmy Snyder, that we will be having a school shooting drill sometime in the month of November. Therefore, be prepared for it at any given time of the school day. These people know about the upcoming drill: Parents, Staff, Policemen, and the
The balance between fear and foresight is a necessary component for an individual to maintain a healthy lifestyle, an imbalance of these components can potentially put people in difficult situations as it relates to their survival. Fear can be a humbling experience when it is not balanced with foresight, the nuances of that particular experience instills a subconscious thought in an individual that resonates with fear, in terms of people realizing their mistakes and making the necessary adjustments in life.
"Culture of Fear" is a book that describes that it is our perceptions that dangers have increased, and so much the actual level of risk. Glassner explains in all of his chapters how people and organizations use our fears as a way to increase their profit. Glassner also states about the prices we pay for our panics and all the time and energy we spend worrying. Americans are afraid because of the media's broadband expose of crime, violence, drugs and diseases.
Fear has controlled the world and shaped humans into what they are now. New technologies have been created, because of the fear humans have. Over time new fears have evolved, and illnesses occurred due to anxiety and depression from these fears. The terror that runs through each individual is different. Without fear there would be no evolution or protection.
...ld such dangers have any significance to life? Jim Carroll tells the real story of his fear of the end and the mixed feelings of what matters, what doesn't. His fear is accompanied by confusion of how to live, today, with the possibility of being killed tomorrow.
Fear of the unknown, and fear of what is to come in our lives, has generations of people wondering what will our lives be like tomorrow or the next day. Death is always there and we cannot escape it. Death is a scary thing. Our own mortality or the mortality of our loved ones scares us to the point that we sometimes cannot control how we are dealing with such a thing as the thought of death. Why do we fear such a thing as death? We don’t know what happens after we don’t how it feels. The fear of death is different for most but it is most certain to come and we cannot hide from it. For death is just around the corner and maybe it’s will come tomorrow or the next day! We fear not death, but the unknown that comes from death, that is the
According to Ernest Becker, “The main thesis of this book is that it explains: the idea of death, the fear of death that haunts humans like nothing else; the mainspring of human activity designed to avoid the fatality of death, to overcome it by denying in some way that it is the final destiny for man” (“Becker” ix). The author of this book describes and quotes many other psychological thinkers views on the different kinds of fear and what contributes to the fear of death in man. The author explores several topics like self-worth, heroism, fear, anxiety, depression and many other issues throughout this book.
In the words of Bertrand Russell, “Fear is the main source of superstition, and one of the main sources of cruelty. To conquer fear is the beginning of wisdom” (Russell). Fear causes many problems in our lives. Fear influences many of a person’s actions and decisions. However, people usually regret the decisions or actions they made out of fear. Also, these actions and decisions can cause problems for those people in their future. Fear is a harmful emotion, for it clouds people’s judgement, disables them from taking action, and causes them to make decisions that they will regret later.
Is Australia doing enough to protect its citizens from shark attacks? Let me make it clear, I am not here today to express how the culling of sharks and installation of nets around our bay has its advantages, however, I am here today to criticize the Australian and State Governments for not doing enough to protect its citizens from shark attacks which left Zac Young praying to God while his friends were left to carry the upper half of his body back to the shore after he was mauled by a tiger shark. It is clearly evident that more needs to be done to protect us. I am going to be honest with you, it is going to cost money, but how can you put a price on the 26 un provoked shark encounters and 3 fatalities that occurred in our waters last year? The government needs to invest more money to protect its citizens from these avoidable
Like Will Smith I agree as humans we should not live in fear, we should enjoy everyday and when something is not right we have the power to change
In this article it states the origin of the idea of colonizing Mars. The creation of life on Mars will be a difficult process due to the resembling the Martian landscape. The idea of colonization led back when the discovery of the different planets that exists in the universe. Human continued to strive for inventions and discoveries which led to the downgrade of Earth. Due to the curiosity of human beings, it led to the idea of colonization and to bring life on Mars.
Death is a common topic of speculation and frequently anxiety. Death is terrifying to people for many reasons: they do not know what to anticipate from death, they fear the penalty of gods, they dread not achieving certain goals or things in life, etc. Epicurus argues that when we die we no longer exist. When it comes to death many different factors come to play, whether the person himself believes in life after death, if the person believes in a certain religion or whether a person is a nonbeliever. All these leads to different perceptions of death, many beliefs stem from what they are told as kids or what they learn later on in life, therefore depending on what certain people believe there are many people who fear death and there are those who do not. A global 2012 poll reports that 59 per cent of the worlds population is religious meaning that a large majority of the world have a view of what happens after death.
Look to the left of you then the right. Rememer those people you just looked at now BANG. That one person, is on the ground bleeding from a bullet wound. You are now a victim of a school shooting, you now are one of those kids from Parkland who survived and their friend just died. Imagine bringing your little brother or sister to the movies and gun shots are fired, your sibling now knows the hard truth that superheros aren’t real and that they can’t save them now.
Summer has come to an end and school back in full swing. One is ready to crush the challenges facing a 5th grader. The last bell for recess sounds. Young boys race outside to enjoy the sun’s warmth. Name calling and horse-playing around immediately begins as they plan their weekend fun. Challenging each other to execute silly acts or daring one another to flirt with the girls across the playground. One yells out if you don’t jump from the top you are a sissy. Then one hears ask Julie out first. Recess is almost over when another one yells out he won’t…he’s a gay sissy. Silence has now blanketed the playground and one could hear a pin drop. Saved by the bell it was time to line up and head back to class. The final bell of the day
In the current crisis of the capitalist world system, elites in the United States, along with other central countries, promote fear of crime and terrorism. They shaped these fears so that people looked to authorities for security, which permitted extension of apparatuses of coercion like police and military forces.” Panic is a sudden sensation of fear which is so strong as to completely dominate or prevent reason and logical thinking, replacing it with only overwhelming feelings of anxiety and frantic agitation consistent with animalistic reactions. Panic can occur singularly in individuals or appear suddenly in groups as panic. All beings capable of emotion have felt panic before. Panic is best visualized as uncovering a colony of cockroaches
