Carbonated soft drinks still accounted for 81 billion in sales in North America in 2016, according to Beverage Digest, way more than growing categories like water 23 billion and sports drinks 9.4 billion. And soda is cheaper to make than other beverages. It's been a long time since PepsiCo just sold Pepsi and Coca-Cola just sold Coke. But when it comes to regular old cola, Coke is still king.
Why do more people drink Pepsi more than Coke? Well in January, Coke announced new Diet Coke flavors and a sleek new can. The campaign was aimed at a younger crowd because millennials are always interested in the new things. There are three major companies that hold the majority of sales in the carbonated soft drink industry in the United States. They are the Coca Cola Company with 44.1% market share, followed by The Pepsi-Cola Company with 31.4% market share, and Dr. Pepper/Seven Up, Inc. with 14.7% market share. Each company respectively has numerous brands that it sales. These top brands account for almost 73% of soft drink sales in the United States. The changing demographics of the U.S population have been an important factor in the growing popularity of these flavored soft drinks. The possible impact of this factor will be addressed later in the case.
To summarize, Pepsi tries to create a new target audience which is adults. Compared to Coca-cola, Pepsi does it more fair and success to create a more divine atmosphere. In my point of view, this is a winning concept in the long run.
PepsiCo, Inc. and The Coca-Cola Company are both strong companies with billions in sales each year. A creditor, investor or business planner would each evaluate the company in different ways using different ratio and financial analysis. As an investor, I see Pepsi as a larger company with more assets and I would expect them to have a larger market share as a result. Coca-Cola, however, appears to be a stable company capable of growth with investment priorities in their own companies. Slight changes by either company could propel them to the head of the industry, although they are both industry leaders.

But a review of a 10-year period (dividendgrowthinvestors.com) reveals that Pepsi Co. has been strong between 28 to 34%, while Coca Cola has been around 25 to 33%. That fact that Pepsi Co. has steadily outperformed Coca Cola on the rate of returns to its investors confirms my decision to lean towards Pepsi Co. Don't be misinformed, both companies are strong performers and lead their industry in most every category. I recommend any potential investor do the math and research for themselves.
Crystal Pepsi was introduced to the market from April 1992 to 1993 in United States and Canada. It was formulated differently from the original brown cola, and the new colorless cola was 100% naturally flavored with no preservations and no caffeine. It did have a lighter taste than the original Pepsi.
How has the competition between Coke and Pepsi affected the industry’s profits? Can Coke and Pepsi sustain their profits in the wake of flattening demand and the growing popularity of non-carbonated drinks? The soft drink industry is a highly profitable industry and its success is due to the large consumption of non-alcoholic beverages through which both concentrate producers and bottlers are profitable. Given the U.S. Industry Consumption Statistics, Exhibit 1, it is clear that, after deducting beer and wine, soft drinks account for about 90 % of the total liquid consumption, while Coke and Pepsi account for about 75 % of the soft drink industry. The high consumption of CSDs is related to the soft drink industry selling to consumers through five principal channels: food stores, convenience stores, vending, fountains and others.
Without a doubt, no beverage company compares to Coca-Cola’s social popularity or brand notoriety. Some people buy coke, not only because of its taste, but because it is also the most socially accepted brand. Another strength that is very important to Coca-Cola is customer loyalty. For instance, in a household where parents are avid Coke drinkers, this will be passed down to their children. Customers will continuously but Coke.

By successfully introducing Diet Coke the Coca Cola company extended its parent product i.e. Coca Cola through secondary brand association. The parent product Coca Cola was familiar with the consumers and they were really interested in something new that was offered by the company which was an extended version of the existing product. The most beneficial aspect of this extension was the company was promoting its new product along with its existing product with minimal additional expenses on the marketing campaigns. The company already had a vast distribution network which made easier for the company to reach maximum number of consumers across the globe (Pendergrast
Their advertising techniques set them apart as Coca-Cola still seems to market themselves as a “classic” company, and Pepsi seems to be more interested in modern methods market themselves. I am not discrediting anything that is classic, but as the world continues to grow and innovate we must move with it, if we continue to live in the past we will be left behind. Coca-Cola’s included image of Marilyn Monroe, a “classic” icon, and Pepsi’s included image of Beyoncé Knowles, a “modern” icon proves this point, which is why would Pepsi’s advertisement is more effective at attracting

This Coca-Cola advertisement expresses happiness with a Coke to persuade and even manipulate its audience with natural and pure imagery, includes
