To what extent does animal sacrifice contravene with the context of Islam and its principals? It has become a common trend for Muslims all over the world to slaughter millions of animals as a way to celebrate the ending of Ramadan. The grand Islamic celebration of Eid-Al Adha is an egregious and morally corrupt concept that takes place during what is supposed to be the holiest time of the year for muslims. This way of celebration,which involves the brutality and maltreatment of animals, draws upon a contradiction with the basic morals of Islam. I will focus on this issue through the framework of the Sunnah(The Sahih Al-Bukhari), The Holy Quran ,and The Five Pillars of Islam. Prophet Muhammad is the main prophet and founder of Islam; He is the messenger of Allah who was sent to deliver his teachings to the world. The book was collected and compiled by the Muslim scholar, Imam Muhammad Al-Bukhari. More specifically, I will be adopting volume 7 of book 68 which talks about the Al-Adha sacrifice and slaughter of animals. Like the Bible in Christianity, the Holy Quran is the central religious text of Islam where Muslims believe it to be a revelation from Allah. The Five Pillars of Islam is known as the five mandatory and elementary acts a Muslim should perform in their life; it is the foundation of the muslim lifestyle. These are some of the most important Holy texts of Islam, and they reveal that there are more peaceful and civilized ways to celebrate the traditions of this religion.
