Islam is the second biggest religion in the world. Islam has spread from Saudi Arabia to across the globe. Islam formed when the prophet muhammed went to Mt. Hira to pray then Allah(God in arabic) spoke to him and based the whole religion off the five pillars. The 5 pillars are Shahadah which means Profession of faith, Salat daily prayers, Sawm which means fasting, Zakat which is almsgiving, and finally Hajj and it means to pilgrimage. Islam started in the city of Mecca, and the holy book of Islam is the Qur’an. Islam spread because of trade, conquest, and beliefs. Trade helped spread the practice of Islam. First, Mecca was the crossroad of the lucrative caravan trade. Vast camel trains, bearing spices, perfumes, precios metal,ivory and silk (document A).Trade helped Islam spread so quickly because people from around the world would come to the trade market in mecca. Secondly, the Nomadic Bedouins would help people get to Mecca as a travel guide (Notes). The Qur’an was the first reason why beliefs helped the spread of islam. Beliefs that muslims can fight only when attacked or the beliefs of good works (Document B). This helped the spread because the people who believed that some of the rules were fair would join Islam. Secondly, The five pillars.The five pillars of Islam is Shahadah, Salat, Sawm, Zakat, and Hajj. other people that wanted these five beliefs would join Islam and then Islam expanded. Finally, the Jihad. They wanted to become better people reform society, or incorrect justice. The people who liked there rules from the judge of Islam and words from Muhammad would join Islam because of this belief also.
