There are hundreds of religions that exist throughout the globe. Islam and Hinduism are two of the oldest of these religious practices. Although they are two different religions, they share a similar view on the ideal way of worshipping God. It’s important to discuss Hinduism’s four Yogas as well the five pillars of Islam and how they play a role in defining god’s true nature. In addition, it is to be made clear that Islam takes a more orthodoxy approach by integrating the Quran as well as prayer and mandatory fasting into their religious tradition. Hinduism, on the other hand, is more of an individualized deity worship.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Traditionally, Muslims are expected to deter from food and drink from dawn until dusk. One can be filled with selfish desires that ultimately alienate themselves from god. Muslims fast as a way to control these desires and to purify themselves and gain a better connection with Allah.
The final pillar is the pilgrimage to Mecca known as the Hajj. Shortly following Ramadan, Muslims from around the globe congregate in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is a time where unity triumphs and where race, gender, and ethnicity do not matter. All Muslims, at least once in their lifetime, must perform the hajj along with millions of other men and women. The Hajj serves as a place for sin forgiveness, religious devotion, and it is spiritual fulfilling. It is one of the most emotional moments a Muslim will experience in their lifetime.
While Islam has the five pillars, Hinduism has the four paths of Yoga. These four yogas include Jnana Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Karma Yoga, and Raja Yoga. These four yogas are different paths to the ultimate goal of realizing one’s true self. It also serves as a unification with oneself and with Brahman.
