To us in the South, when we think of religion, most people generally think of Christianity. Though that is the religion we know best, we only know it best because we live in the Bible Belt of the World and there is a church on every corner. When people in the South hear the term Islam or Muslim, a follower of Islam, their minds almost always will turn to radicalism. Contrary to popular belief, not all followers of Islam are dangerous or a threat to society, in fact, some of the nicest people you will ever meet are followers of Islam. The iconic set of rules that Islam follows are the Five Pillars of Islam. They are a set of rules that are expected of all Muslims, or followers of Islam, in order to achieve eternal glorification. Some of the pillars include the Shahada which is the confession that Allah is the one true God and Muhammad is his trusted prophet, the Salat which are prayers said five times a day facing Mecca, the Zakat which is the giving of alms, the Shawm which is a fast during Ramadan, and the Hajj which is a pilgrimage that all Muslims, that are able, must take to Mecca. The sacred text that Muslims follow is titled the Quran. The Quran consists of teachings that Muhammad wrote while being divinely inspired by Allah. Although both Christianity and Islam have similarities one big belief sets them apart greatly, the belief of Jesus Christ. Now, both believe that Jesus Christ was at one time alive and both believe that he was a sinless man. However, Christianity believes that not only was Jesus a sinless man but he was fully man and fully God. As I look at the five pillars, I can tell right away the comparisons to the Christian faith. As a Christian and a child of God, we believe in showing our faith and the power of prayer. The Bible also tells us something about giving to those in need because we too might have a need. Jesus also taught on fasting and dedicating ourselves to God. The pilgrimage to Mecca is almost like going to a church even to enhance the spiritual maturity of the Christian. The Islamic people also have a sacred book called the Qur?an which is like out Bible.
