I believe equality means every individual should be treated and given the same attention no matter who they are. No individual should be discriminated due to their disability. The equality act came into effect in October 2010. This is a law which protects people from being treated differently because of their disability. Equality in health care is ensuring everyone has an access to medical care despite who they are. Equality is about creating a fairer society where everyone regardless of who they are has a chance to fulfil their potential. By getting rid of prejudice and discrimination, the NHS can now distribute services that are personal, fair and diverse society which is healthier and happier.
Diversity is one thing, I have come to accept and appreciate greatly in my life. I am 22 years old and was born in Ghana, West Africa. To me, I see myself as an African woman. Reasoning being that both my parents are Africans but from different tribes. I was brought up through the general Ghanaian way, but having my parents from different ethnic groups taught me how to adapt to different cultures and I believe that was where my experience with diversity began. The African continent do have some similarities in the cultures, but being brought up with the Ghanaian culture and norms has really helped me and shaped me to be the respectful and humbled woman I am today. Through the development of Inclusive Education it is possible that children grow up to be more accepting of differences, where once the notion of something “different” and “separate” could cause caution, fear and ridicule. There are multiple policies and processes present within our society supporting inclusivity and the right every child regardless of their special needs or difficult circumstances has to an education. The Salamanca Statement developed world wide in 1994 states every child’s right to an education. In support of this policy the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act (1992) sets disability standards in our education system and the Melbourne Declaration (2008) further attempts to promote equity and excellence within our schools.
By every individual accepting and acknowledging that we are all different then there will be mutual respect for each other’s cultural difference. When these differences are explored in a safe, positive, and nurturing environment, they are more than simply tolerating others but that through these differences are instead commended and embraced. People become aware of each other’s difference and uniqueness such as religion, sexual orientation, race, gender, age and beliefs. When this is embraced by the health care providers then there will be improved care.
The goal of having an inclusive child care setting is that it will succeed, helping each child to grow in every way possible. General Child care settings and inclusive ones are not too different. In order for a child care program to succeed, it must have certain components in it. I consider the staff to be the most important element they are the once that make the big differences. It is their demeanor that set the stage for inclusion. If the staff consist of people that are passionate about making inclusion work they will be positive to the settings that they are in and look at everyone with a smile, they will be willing to fit the needs of each individual child. Diversity is broad and incorporates the concept of acceptance and respect. It understands that individuals are unique in their own way and recognizes the differences between individuals which can be in terms of race, gender, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, religious beliefs among other ideologies (Nederveen et al, 20013). It entails the exploration of all these variances in a positive, safe and nurturing environment as well as understanding one another beyond levels of tolerance, so as to accept and celebrate the rich variety of diversity each individual possess.
According to the Society for Human Resource Management diversity is: “A broad definition of diversity ranges from personality and work style to all of the visible dimensions of diversity such as race, age, ethnicity or gender, to secondary influences such as religion, socioeconomics and education, to work diversities such as management and union, functional level and classification or proximity/distance to headquarters.” Diversity is a huge factor that we are striving for in many occupations around the world, but healthcare is one of the main professions that is becoming more diverse. Not only does it have many positive effects, it is providing the patients and workers with a sense of respect for each other. The patients are able to have a nurse or occupational therapists that understand where they are coming from. They might have the same morals or they might be in a similar situation as the patient, so they will be able to relate with the patient and understand them during difficult times. More companies are relating diversity into the workforce. Therefore they are able to have a more successful business because of the many changes they are making to meet the needs of each individual.
This article explain how healthcare providers should treat people as individuals, not to discriminate and act as an advocate for individuals receiving care. Also, how nurses should provide individual holistic care by playing an active role in ensuring that services within the hospital or community reflect the diverse needs of every individual irrespective of their background and also highlight the purpose of the Equality Act 2010 to healthcare providers and who it protects as far as discrimination is concern.
Inclusion in classrooms is defined as combining students with disabilities and students without disabilities together in an educational environment. It provides all students with a better sense of belonging. They will enable friendships and evolve feelings of being a member of a diverse community (Bronson, 1999). Inclusion benefits students without disabilities by developing a sense of helping others and respecting other diverse people. By this, the students will build up an appreciation that everyone has unique yet wonderful abilities and personalities (Bronson, 1999). This will enhance their communication skills later in life. Inclusive classrooms provide students with disabilities a better education on the same level as their peers. Since all students would be in the same educational environment, they would follow the same curriculum and not separate ones based on their disability. The main element to a successful inclusive classroom, is the teachers effort to plan the curriculum to fit all students needs. Teachers must make sure that they are making the material challenging enough for students without special needs and understandable to students with special needs. Inclusive classrooms are beneficial to students with and without special needs.

In first being able to define inclusive education, it is necessary to understand the diversity of the student population. Disability comes in my varying forms and can be physical, sensory, intellectual, mental health and emotional, developmental, and non-visible (e.g. asthma). If disability was the only agent to consider in the diversity scenario things would be easier for teachers but there are a number of other classifications of students to consider: Gifted or talented; English as a second language (ESL); Indigenous students; and many other classifications which fall under the societal/family/personal heading (Ashman & Elkin, 2012).
Whereas diversity relates to the faces, or who makes up, the organizational demographics. Diversity however, as just one part of inclusiveness, must be understood in the context of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability level, etc. Combining the two, inclusive organizations are not only made up of people of various backgrounds at all levels (administration, staff, support staff, etc), but their varying ideals, values, ideas, and contributions are sought after (The Denver Foundation, 2007B; Watson, 2011). Inclusive organizations go beyond achieving diversity, but make their organization a welcoming place for all viewpoints. Michal Mor Barak (2000) define an inclusive workplace as one that “values and uses individual and intergroup differences, cooperates with and contributes to its surrounding community, alleviates needs of disadvantaged groups, and collaborates across national and cultural boundaries” (p339).
