The shoulder joint allows the arm to move in many directions, which makes it the most mobile joint in the human body. With this mobility comes some drawbacks, since the joint is unstable and becomes dislocated easily.

The surrounding muscles are torn and ripped when the head of the bone is pulled from it's socket. This can cause serious spasms in the muscles and ligaments surrounding the shoulder.
When the shoulder is dislocated, there's often a boxy look to the shoulder because the bone is out of place. A person who has hurt themselves will often hold their injured arm with the other hand to keep it stable since any movement is excruciatingly painful. They'll refuse to move the injured arm at all.
Along with the pain of the shoulder, people with a dislocation will show symptoms of pain itself. They'll often be nauseous, sweating and lightheaded or weak. It can also cause the person to pass out from the pain. The vagus nerve can be stimulated, which causes some of these reactions.
