Imagine being turned away from a future employer because of things one couldn’t control like your gender, age, or race. People are constantly being subjected to discrimination, especially within the workplace. Employers continue to discriminate against potential employees based on gender, race, and age highlighting that discrimination is still happening today.
One way discrimination is prevailed is by gender. On average men tend be promoted to high positions with high titles like CEO or manager. But some companies continue to be paying males more for the same position a female would occupy. Women comprise 42% of the total US labor force, which is almost half, yet they still tend to make 78 cents for every dollar a male makes (College Times). …show more content…

Race discrimination involves treating someone (an applicant or employee) unfavorably because he/she is of a certain race or because of personal characteristics associated with race (Antidiscrimination in the Workplace). Being discriminated against because of something one cant control can hurt ones self-esteem. Harassment can include, racial slurs, offensive remarks on person's race or color, all of which happens to often. Many companies are trying to change gender roles in a work setting. According to People Magazine, “Maybelline has announced Manny Gutierrez, as one of the stars in their new Big Shot campaign — making him the first male to star in one of the brand’s campaigns” (Ruffo, Jillian) A major company such as Maybelline cosmetics is trying to change these norms by hiring a male as a spokes person in a mainly female dominate field. Some may argue that there are multiple laws that act to fight against discrimination. “Laws forbids discrimination of employment, including hiring, firing, pay, job assignments, promotions and any other term or condition of employment” (Antidiscrimination in the Workplace).
