Since the industrial revolution, the workforce has been dominated by men in every sector. However, as time changes, so does the population of the active workforce in every country and as women’s rights movements have changed the world in many ways, women’s entrance into the workforce has since elevated to increasingly large levels. Unfortunately, despite many efforts, there are many inequalities surrounding gender within the workforce not just in Canada, but all around the world (Abedi, 2018). Often, gender-based discrimination within the work place is not taken seriously enough and that’s why it’s important for Canadian employers to focus on these issues. Gender-based discrimination exists in many ways within the workforce including the wage gap, issues pertaining to hiring women who may want to take a maternity leave, promoting women in the workplace, women receiving leadership roles within the workplace and so much more (Ince 2015). One of the biggest factors positively affecting many gender-based discrimination issues within the workforce is the effects of leadership and management styles within the organization that promote gender diversity (Charbel, 2011). Many organizations found that when leadership and management roles that were used to promote diversity had visible support from upper level management within the organization, the affects on gender diversity were long lasting and very positive on many aspects of the business including increased morale, creativity, productivity and integration among employees (Charbel, 2011). As many organizations begin to focus on diversity management styles, they reap the benefits of a more productive work environment that is friendly and rewarding for the employees and the employers.
