Different Views of Leisure
During the time, leisure and recreation have been always an important part of man's life and occurred in many different forms. In the ancient Greece, people used to entertain themselves by participating outdoor games, which contributed into both physical and mental development. In the middle of ninetieth (19th) century people used to spend more time together socializing and learn about and from each other. Nowadays, at the beginning of twenty-first (21st) century, where everybody is trying to achieve the most possibly, free time has become a scarce phenomenon. During this assignment, the following study was contacted in order to collect information on how people spend their free time, in particular their leisure time, and what particular factors influence their behavior. Four (4) persons, representing three different ethnic groups and both genders, were interviewed and asked about decision making in terms of their leisure time. After the interviews took place, the data was compared and classified into categories. At this point, it is important to be mentioned that the names of the interview subjects were changed in order to protect their identity.
The first person I interviewed was named Steven, a Caucasian male at the age of thirty-two (32). He is a college graduate and is currently working as a Human Resources analyst in South San Francisco. He has been to the Bay area almost for ten (10) years and even though he owns his own house, he shares it with one roommate. He was more than happy to participate at this interview and answer all the questions. According to him (personal communication, September 12, 1999) leisure is something relaxing, which does not require a lot of thought and energy....

...oncentrate and think. Aristotle believed that leisure is totally unrelated with time and can be achieved anytime. Money for Daniel is not a factor, which could influence his leisure choice, because most of the leisure activities he involves require either small or no amount of money.
The fourth and last person I interviewed was Katherine. She is an Asian American girl at the age of twenty-six (26). She is currently going to school, majoring in fashion design, and her part time job is related to her major. She has been to the Bay Area for about four (4) years and she lives in an apartment, which shares with her partner and another roommate.

If was given the opportunity to be hired as a TR specialist the most suitable work sight that is the best fit for me would be a Long Term Care centre. With clients that are of the age of retirement are not able to take of themselves or suffered a major disability that warrants them to be under the care of a health care professional, the most logical way for TR specialist to provide effective therapy in the field of TR is through the uses of the Leisure Ability Model. This model is based on the concept of internal locus of control, in intrinsic motivation, personal causality, freedom of choice and flow through the use of three service components: treatment, leisure education and recreation participation. When using this model it is imperative
Evidence suggests that families often enjoyed everyday leisure but in reality working class social life was divided by gender. Married women’s leisure tended to be separate from the public domain and was not very different from work, but was linked with domestic duties and family relations. It was during this period that to survive families had to send their sons and daughters into the labor force to supplement the earnings of the father, while the mother cooked, cleaned, cared for the children and manufactured goods in the home. The typical wage-earning woman of 1900 was young and single.
Walker Percy in his essay tells us that the experience of humans nowadays are very insignificant because of biased awareness. Percy thinks that humans lack the true experience while doing or going somewhere just because of the “beaten track”. A person can truly experience wonderful things just if they get off the beaten track. Percy writes, “It may be recovered by leaving the beaten track.” (Percy 299) Every time Percy is trying to tell this he proves it by giving various examples. His one example was how a tourist goes to see the Grand Canyon and has already a lot of preconceived expectations to that place. But when he reaches there he feels let down because all he assumed was wrong and just a fantasy. (298) Percy writes, “This dialectic of sightseeing cannot be taken into account by planners, for the object of the dialectic is nothing other than the subversion of the effort of the planners.” (Percy 300) the sightseer can only recover from all this by leaving the beaten track. (299)

This single verse provides evidence of how the country villa provides an essential space for the pursuit of his favourite leisure activity – his art. The therapeutic powers of being away from his hurly burly, patron/client lifestyle of the city is also clear. As a working farm the hierarchical structure of the Roman empire allowed Horace to engage staff. Thus, allowing time for writing, inspiration and relaxation. Horace’s joy at his move to his country villa also ties in with the opinion of Lafargue, Aristotle and Epicurus, as to the value of leisure,
My own personal philosophy of leisure has been shaped by past and present activities I do for leisure and why I do them. To me, leisure is the sense of being free from external stressors that I face in my life such as school or work. The positive outcomes from partaking in leisure are generally overlooked and often underestimated. Leisure affects our emotions, our physical and mental health, and aids in the creation of relationships. In my own personal life, I have done and still participate in leisure as a way to sooth myself or unwind from the stress of school or work. The release of pent up emotions and energy for individuals helps their relationships with others and their overall health as well. When stress is released, an individual is
The purpose of therapeutic recreation is to enable all individuals to achieve quality of life and optimal health through meaningful experiences in recreation and leisure. In this paper the definition of therapeutic recreation will be discussed as well as what should be included in the definition and what should be rejected. This definition will mainly focus on health and use the Health Promotion Model to further explain my choice to focus on health and well-being. I will also be discussing the importance of inclusion in therapeutic recreation for different learning styles in many environments, and the significance of diversity in the community and what we hope to achieve by being fully inclusive.

This essay is the respond to the Local Council Member who has wrong idea about a common archetype of adventure tourist. This misconception based on ignorance of current tourism industry, could potentially be a dangerous for local economy and development. The local authority must be well informed about present conditions with the tourism market, before they will make a far reaching decisions about the development direction in this industry. Recreation and Leisure activities are in a high critical dimension of quality of life for everyone, including people with developmental disabilities. Sadly, many of those who are disabled are still limited to segregated recreation and leisure choices for any reason or another. Some people will confine themselves to opportunities which include trying a new variety of activities in different settings with different people; here some of the factors that can be affecting: Age, Gender, Sexual Orientation, Racial and Ethnic identity, and Socioeconomic status.
