The Last Supper
The Last Supper is one of the greatest work of art created by Italian inventor and innovator Leonardo de Vinci. The famous piece of work is located in Milan Italy on the wall of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Last Supper is proof of de Vinci astonishing artistic talent and vision. Da Vinci uses both, along with his perception of the Holy Scriptures, and gives reality to the last moments before Jesus’ betrayal.
Through his magnificent work da Vinci is able to make The Last Supper come to life. The Last Supper is a visual description during the evening before Christ was betrayed by one of his disciples. Corresponding to Christian belief it is the final meal that Jesus shared with his Apostles in Jerusalem before his arrest and crucifixion. As they are eating and drinking Christ announces the betrayal of him by one of his twelve apostles which reacts in horror, shock, and anger. Christ gave precise commands on how to eat and drink in remembrance of him in which is now known as communion.
The Last Supper is a giant 15feet tall by 29 feet wide painting created during the Renaissance period in the 15th century. Da Vinci was commissioned by Duke of Milan Ludovico Sforza and his duchess Beatrice d’Este. Da Vinci begin creating the portrait in 1495 and completing it in 1498. It is said that the painting of Last Supper is not a true fresco. Da Vinci decided not to apply paint on a wet plaster he experimented by painting directly on a dry plaster using tempura and oil paint. He used this technique to capture the look of an oil painting, but even within his lifetime it began to wear off.

...mpted to restore the mural. However the project was started in 1978 managed by Pinin Brambilla Barcilon. Finally after twenty-one years the restoration of The Last Supper was complete in 1999. On May 28th, 1999 the mural was taken back to its original display. The painting is now conserved by a high-tech air filtering system, moisture monitoring environment, and dust-filtering compartments. Visitors may visit only if reservations have been made and groups are limited to 25 people for viewing times of only 15 minutes.
To this day the Last Supper continues to be one of the most famous art pieces created by da Vinci. It is considered the first great configuration of the High renaissance and visual interpretation of its theme focus. Although several other artist has attempted to paint a portrait of The Last Supper da Vinci remains the most studied and well known of all.
