The rebirth of culture that took place in Europe from the 14th through the mid 17th centuries, it was based on the rediscovery of literature, art and learning in Greece and Rome. Renaissance originated from French, mid-French. The five major themes of the Renaissance were humanism, secularism, individualism, rationalism, and virtu. It was based on arts and humanities, religion, individuals trying to stand out, science, the church’s authority, and being the best at things.
There were three artists in particular that took over the Renaissance period. Their names are Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, and Raphael. The artist I choose to do is Leonardo da Vinci. He was born on April 15, 1492 in Italy. He was raised by his father and step-mothers.

He meant to get his ways of thinking out there for the world to see. He knew that if you were a deep thinker and learner as him, you would see and understand the way he saw and understood. He knew it would be a great asset to the Renaissance period and that he would leave an imprint on the world to view. I could tell that in the painting of The Last Supper that, he wanted you to be in deep thought and wonder what Jesus could have been talking about with his disciples. It has been rumors of what he was saying, but the truth is nobody really knows. It gets you to thinking because you are wondering like what he said, what they said back, what his reaction was when they did respond and what the ending result was. With the Mona Lisa, it leaves you in deep thought because you want to know what could she be smirking about or did he even mean to have that smirk on her face. He wants you to wonder what was the point of adding the slight smirk to her face, or could you just be seeing a smirk that actually was a frown. The memories and emotions of the artworks were based on religion and his thoughts of how a woman should be portrayed. The Mona Lisa looks innocent, natural and pure. It shows realism in the portrait, because of the way she is positioned in the painting. I believe Leonardo da Vinci made this artwork to compare the Mona Lisa to a mother-figure or his mother in particular. In conclusion, the Last Supper with Jesus and his disciples focused on what was happening at that time. I think he based it on the bible, but translated them into his own thoughts to show that it is possible to read something and comprehend it on a different level than how it was

This recovery was accompanied by a rediscovery of the Greco-Roman culture and civilization. The renaissance began in Italy. There are plenty of reasons why Italy was the main location for revival of antiquity. The first one being the plague was the first to leave Italy. Therefore, they had more time to recover and grow. Another being that Italy was the main power during the past Greco-Roman culture, especially where it flourished in Rome. The rebirth in Italy led to the revival of three characteristics; an emergence of humanist attitudes, art,

Nineteenth century British biologist T.H. Huxley famously said, “Try to learn something about everything and everything about something (Quotes by…). This statement is reflective of the idea of a polymath, or the Renaissance man, that is, one whose expertise spans a significant variety of subjects and fields (Oxford Dictionaries). Leonardo da Vinci not only encapsulated this ideal but also ultimately was the model of the Renaissance man for centuries to follow. As many already know, Leonardo da Vinci was most famously as an artist, whose paintings have remained some of the most recognized and iconic images for over 500 years, but his genius did not end in the arts. He was also a brilliant architect, engineer, scientist, mathematic, writer, and more. There is little that Leonardo da Vinci did not do over the course of his amazing lifetime. Over the next few pages, I will briefly share the life of this extraordinary man.
Leonardo da Vinci was born in Vinci, Italy on April 15, 1452. His father, Ser Piero di Antonio da Vinci, was not married to Leonardo’s mother, a poor girl named Caterina. Leonardo’s parents went their separate ways and married other people. Leonardo lived with his mother, grandmother, and his mother’s future husband for five years of his life, but Leonardo’s father claimed custody of Leonardo when he discovered that his current wife was unable to have children. Leonardo da Vinci’s father fathered 12 other children with several wives. Although these children shared the same father as Leonardo da Vinci they did not share his intellectual gifts.
Leonardo da Vinci used flawless subject matter, form, content, and iconography to create his painting The Last Supper. Leonardo da Vinci painted his interpretation of what the Last Supper looked like through his work of art. In the center of his painting he painted Jesus Christ, the son of God, in the middle of all of his disciples. On each side of him there are an even number of six disciples sitting at a table pointing to themselves and to each other. Da Vinci painted this scene inside of a dark room with three windows, eight doors, and a beautiful outside environment. In order to paint this scene da Vinci used flawless form.
The Renaissance (1300-1700) began in Italy and eventually spread to Germany, France, England, and Spain. The Renaissance is also known as the Middle Ages. To understand what the Renaissance exactly is would be to say that it was the cultural rebirth that occurred in Europe through a term called humanism. In other words, the people wanted a Christian worldview through a classical learning style. While many things helped the Renaissance become well known, the political and economic aspects of the Renaissance is what played a huge developing role in which helped it flourish into creating its environment. The economic aspects were just as important as the political aspects of the Renaissance, but it was the political aspects that had the most

Leonardo is one of the few people who has the ability to make these qualities seem so perfect under his hands. His artworks are by far the most popular pieces of art that are in museums to this day. Recently a popular painting “Salvator Mundi”, painted between 1490-1500, has been placed up for auction and is estimated that the painting will sale for at least $100 million. This is just one of 16 surviving paintings that have made it through the years and it’s not even the most popular one. The Mona Lisa is the most popular painting by anyone to this very day. It was painted in the year 1503 and is famous for multiple reasons. One being that da Vinci didn’t just paint this ordinarily, but in a technique called sfumato and it was painted in atmospheric perspective as seen in the background. The technique sfumato is the blending of oil paints to blur the lines between colors. Atmospheric perspective was a new painting style where things far away in paintings looked blurry and this style was used in the background of the Mona Lisa. The word mysterious is associated with this painting and others that have come from his works. The smile that is presented in the Mona Lisa is somewhat puzzling in its own way and the person depicted in the painting is still not 100% known to experts to this day. The eyes that are on the Mona Lisa seem to watch and follow you when you look at the painting. One of the weird myths that
The Renaissance period started in Italy and took place between the 1400’s and the 1600’s. In French, the term Renaissance means rebirth, which is an accurate way to describe that period since it was then that many people chose to break away from the stagnation, incertitude, and extreme hardships that occurred during the Middle Ages and plagued most of Europe. The Renaissance period is noted for being a time when the population sought educational reform which increased literacy and many were able to master more than one skill set. This led to an intellectual, economic, and artistic revolution that transformed several European nations such as Italy, France, Spain, and several others. During this time, there were several developments within the Catholic Church, such as scandals and controversy. Because of that, many people were driven away from the traditions of the church and sought more freedom of expression and individualism. As economies improved, there was more wealth and a desire for self improvement which greatly influenced the arts.
Leonardo Da Vinci was both an artist and a scientist. He was creative, imaginative, and curious. He was a “genius”; his genius was a human one, crafted out of his own will and hard work.
