When people get asked who you look up to I think everybody always has that one person in mind. I actually think of two people, my grandparents. My grandparent’s names are Edward and Lorena Gaffney. Edward, my grandpa used to work for Cerro Gordo County as a secondary road worker but now is retired. Lorena, my grandma is a preschool teacher aid at West Fork Elementary in Rockwell, Iowa. They live on an acreage in Swaledale, Iowa which is a small town of 164 people. My grandparents had four kids, Terra, who is my mother, Sarah, Angela and Benjamin. Then they were lucky enough to have me, their first grandchild. My mother had me when she was 18 years old but I ended up moving in with my grandparents at a young age. I was about 9 years old when …show more content…
She has been my side ever since I was born. Lorena has always been more of a mother to me than my own mom. Of course she never planned on having another kid in the house I was very lucky she welcomed me with her arms wide open. My grandma has been a preschool teacher aid since before I was born. I was really nervous to go to preschool but my grandma was right there by my side to keep me comfortable because she was my preschool teacher aid too. My grandma has always had the sweetest heart. She is your typically grandma who is short, makes amazing food, and gives lots of hugs and kisses. I hope when I am older I can be half the women she is. There is not a thing that I don’t tell that women. Lorena has been there for me from riding my first bike to my college acceptance letter. My grandparents have never been one to pressure me to do things all they want is for me to be happy. Everyday my grandmother reminds of how proud she is that I’m going to college. She has made me unbelievably happy the past 18 years I am glad I can finally make her proud and happy. When you think of a perfect family you think of a nice house, a mom, dad, and siblings. My definition of perfect family is being surrounded by people who love and care about you. All I want to do in life is give my grandparents the world. They have done so much for me that they didn’t need to do. My grandparents are very quiet people who love the outdoors so I hope
My relationship with my grandmother paved the way of my education, my faith, my success. Her understanding and unconditional love, as well as, faith in me along with my past experiences, helped shape my character today. I am currently a high school graduate, who was ranked number 4 in my class with a 3.79 G.P.A. Not to mention, on a full scholarship to college, and by the end of July have a total of eleven college credits before becoming an official freshman.
noticed that in a number of films the father is dead thus it is impossible to protect his children, such as in Cinderella. Also stepfathers seem to not be portrayed in pop culture as evil thus stepmothers are the only ones that receive such hideous flack. Because stepfathers are not portrayed in a negative way, when it comes to real life they have less difficultly finding their place in their new family. (Church 1994) (Hall and Bishop 2009)
Grandma is like a ray of sunshine. She helps light the way. She keeps us warm and comfortable. She cradles us with her warm arms.
By definition, my grandfather is handicapped. However, he doesn't act as though he is, and he certainly does not want to be treated in any special way.
My grandmother was a strong woman. No matter how strained my families’ relationship could be at times, I loved her unconditionally. She was the woman who would buy me gallons of ice cream and soda frustrating my mother to no end. Whenever I spent the night she would let me stay up as late as I wanted watching TV. Crossing the street to my grandparents’ house was a daily event, which I looked forward to every morning I woke up.
There are many of heroes along with role models out there for example like Batman, and all the others we sometimes wish we could be, then there are the real heroes or people who make a difference in people’s life. Like firemen, policemen, and our military who take a risk with their life every day. One of my heroes happens to be my Grandpa, He served in The Korean War, he was the first person in the family to attend a college, and he always puts his family first. He didnt argued with anyone, no matter what the situation was. The only thing that he had to do in spite of hating it was fight in the war.
She is a multi-talented women with determination and believes if you set your mind your goal there isn't anything that you can't achieve. My grandma wasn't able to be somebody that gave a lot of influence and didn't meet some of her goals, I am proud of her intelligence and how much she was able to do independently. Even as a grandma she loves to learn and presently is learning English. She is almost eighty years old and she looks like she is only sixty. Even now as a grandma, she is active and passionate about education. She encourages me to get a
Since birth the one person that was always by my side except for my family was my Grandma. Once my parents needed to go back to work she was there everyday to watch over me. She took me with her every where she went and was proud to show me off and that she had such a wonderful grandson. My Grandma was around for all of my “firsts” that happened as an infant. I think that most of them can be accountable to her. I was never hungry since she always kept me full and when it came time to walk and talk she was there. A lot of our free time was spent chasing my old dog around the yard and petting the horses or going to the park. She was there every step of my infant years and through my younger years.
The Grandpa Game My siblings and I had Grandpa to measure the waist of the 20th century and make sense of it all. Our family World Book (expert on dinosaurs, skyscrapers, and planets) implied Grandpa should be dead. Average human life expectancy at birth is 68.5 years. Grandpa, born in Lithuania in 1902, should have keeled over around the time man walked on the moon.
What does phenomenal mean to you? One dictionary states phenomenal means very remarkable. My great grandmother was a very sophisticated and remarkable woman. Phenomenal should have been her first name, because that she was. My great grandmother was a rare breed; many do not come like that anymore. Memories of my great grandmother take me to a happy place, and hold a special place in my heart.
They say grandparents, are the two most favorite people in the world to children. Grandparents are the main characters of your childhood, they are the ones that leave you with the most beautiful memories of your life. Some grandparent’s teach you a very valuable lesson of life, they teach you respect, hard work, family values, and unlimited love. They show you their love in many ways, they say I love you in words as well as actions. Grandparents are the ones that sometimes get you out of trouble and guide you to the correct path. They show you trust, a trust that cannot never be broken.
It’s hard to imagine all the events that led up to ourselves coming into the world or at least it is hard to some people. When I think about all my ancestors that had to survive all the things I read about in textbooks it’s a miracle we are all here. Trying to learn about all the people in my family’s tree was interesting to know how my ancestors came about, what they did, and how long they lived. I learned mostly about my mother’s side of the family who have lived and flourished in andrews, texas where I am from. I haven’t done anything great yet but I am hoping when my grandchildren have to write about me they have something awesome to write about and will think I did something good with my life.
One thing that has really taught me a lot in my life is the opportunity to see how my family is able to function properly, a majority of the time, with the completely different personalities that inhabit it. The two people that are unlike each other the most would be my parents. My mother is very reserved; however she can still be strict. Regardless, she always this loving look in her eyes. My father on the other hand is quite the jokester. He cracks jokes about everything, but he can be a very serious person when it comes time for it. My dad is easier to get things out of, such as money and permission. It is amazing to see how 2 different personalities can have such a strong relationship, almost 18 years! The other people in my family that have impacted me more than I ever would have wanted them to would be my siblings. My little sister is the closest in age to me, she being 14 whereas I’m 16. My sis...
My grandmother has always been my biggest supporter throughout my life. My Grandmother is my back bone; she is the reason why I am the person that I am today. Most people hear the word grandmother and expect to see older lady with possible white hair, standing in the kitchen cooking and baking, evening sewing. My grandmother is the exact opposite of those things, she is still employed full time, enjoys making jewelry and furniture. Although she is only five two she is very witted and outspoken she never bites her tongue and will always give her opinion even if you don’t ask for it. There is a softer side to her, she will give you her last and be a listening ear day or night. Like the saying goes “to know me is to love me” and believe me
"The great gift of family life is to be intimately acquainted with people you might never even introduce yourself to, had life not done it for you." -Kendall Hailey. Many people among us think that a family reunion is boring. It is an unpleasant social affair where our parents drive us to go and stay there for a considerable length of time. There are odd individuals who come to us and kiss or embrace us while we are still considering "do I know him/her?”. It is because we believe that enjoying the holiday out with friends is much better than investing hours with the people, we “unfortunately” belong to. They have no other subject for discussion aside from our studies and grades. On the other hand, family gathering is always a new experience for someone who lives far away from his blood relations.
