It was a Thursday night, around ten o’clock. I was visiting some friends and family back home in Fresno, California. This was my last night in town; so two friends and I decided to go grab a couple drinks at Jimbo’s, a local bar. As we walked in we headed to the bar to order some drinks. As we were waiting for our drinks, I noticed a man sitting to my left, all by himself at the end of the bar. He was roughly in his mid to late thirties, wearing a button up shirt and tie, cleaned cut and cleaned shaved. Sitting alone, my first thought was he was just waiting for a girlfriend, or friend that was running a little late. A bar scene is more of a social environment, being ordinary and fitting in would look more like being around friends and family and socializing, not necessarily sitting at the bar and having a drink by yourself. Being ordinary has to do a lot about how we think as well. For many people, the most ordinary thought when seeing someone alone at the bar would be he is waiting for someone. The above list of other possible interpretations would mean the person interpretations would be unordinary. The ten interpretations above consist of more thought and aren’t necessarily ordinary thoughts on an everyday basis when seeing a man sitting at a bar by him self. They’re more complex. Being ordinary means to not be complex. An example would be if someone asks you how your day was. Many people will respond with the simple, ordinary response of “it was good”. Not many people are going to go into great detail about how their day was. Telling you everything thing that happened to them from the moment they woke up to the second you asked them how there day was. That would be unordinary. Same with the situation with the gentlemen sitting at the end of the bar, thinking of all these other options of why he might be sitting there by himself, and trying to break down the situation would be unordinary, especially in a bar scene.
