Fellow students of Nobles, imagine you finally reach the summit of a mountain you had been planning to climb for three years now: a time when you physically pushed yourself so hard that your body no longer cooperates, but you were able to keep going anyway. What about the feeling of doing well on a test after giving up six hours of your last weekend to studying for it? Even something as simple as crossing the last item off of your to-do list produces the same feeling. I’m know we have all felt this euphoria at some point. Nothing is more rewarding than completing goals you set for yourself. What is your greatest accomplishment? Think of how you were able to do it. I’m sure, for most of you, this accomplishment took plenty of tenacity and
As shown in Alfie Kohn’s How not to get into college; the preoccupation with preparation, and in Heron Jones’s Somnambulist, society is pursuing extrinsic motivators and extrinsic happiness, although many feel as though extrinsic motivators are important and essential to be happy, intrinsic motivators are what will truly make one happy for a prolonged period of time. In society’s pursuit of extrinsic rewards, society is losing sight of intrinsic happiness and thus, feeling unfulfilled and lacking intrinsic
Is there anything that you have overcome, something that made you change, something that made you a survivor? Many people have been seen as heroes, Ghandi and Martin Luther King Jr. are just a few examples of them. However, the true heroes are those who rose up from their own hardships and became true survivors. Elie Wiesel, Paul Rusesabagina, and John F Kennedy Are seen as genuine survivors. Elie had endured through a concentration camps whose sole aim was to kill people who were of the same religion as him, Paul Rusesabagina had hid 1000 people in his hotel to protect them from being killed, and John F Kennedy had strived to save his crew from a Japanese freighter

I have overcome many challenges to get to where I am. Since the age of 20, I have been the sole surviving member of my immediate family. Despite these odds, I made giant strides throughout life; much of that attributed to the Army. I earned a degree, got married, and had three children in addition to my career. I have traveled all over the country and met many people from different walks of life.
After 12 hours of surgery, assisting in a large operation for a young guy with "Treacher Collins syndrome". It was aw-inspiring how the team of OMS approached the patient, constructing his orbits, grafting and correcting his dentofacial deformity. Although I was exhausted, but I enjoyed every second of the operation and felt really proud and I knew that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.
Success Everyone’s vision of success differs. Wealth, happiness, and fame are all the stereotypical aspirations of the common person’s so-called “American Dream.” My American dream encompasses more of the first two aspects than anything else. Happiness is the most important; without happiness, wealth and fame are useless. Without happiness, success cannot exist; it is your own personal gauge of accomplishment.
This short story is analogous to Daniel Gilbert’s idea that we will feel happier when we are “appropriately challenged” in The Science Behind the Smile article written by Gardiner Morse (HBR 87). Gilbert also explains that when we are “appropriately challenged”, we can achieve goals that are difficult, yet within our reach (HBR 87). Gilbert then describes that if there is a reward, then it will serve as a motivational factor to achieve a goal. Lastly, Gilbert states that frequent positive experiences lead to happiness because those positive experiences will add up over time. Ultimately, we will have more positive experiences than negative experiences, as a result, we will feel happier (HBR 88). I agree with Gilbert that through appropriate challenges such as taking AP classes in high school, I learned how to develop better studying habits which helped me succeed in my challenging courses at CRC. Through my success, I feel happy because I am going in the right direction of achieving my goal to transfer to UC Davis next
My greatest accomplishment is my family. It may not seem like an accomplishment to most people, but in my eyes it is huge. I had the impression growing up that if my parents did not seem happy, how could I ever possibly make marriage work for me. By the late 1980’s when I was in high school, I swore I would never marry and never have kids. Eventually I did change my mind, reluctantly I might add. We as humans learn to live by example and my parents were not always the best examples. I come from a military family, my father was in the Navy for 23 years. Leaving my Mom to raise my younger brother and me. So every three years we felt like a single parent family when sea duty rolled around. I always felt like my Father choose to leave us when he went on a cruise for six month. Now I understand that it was a necessity in order for my parents to stay together. In a since, what I’m saying is the separation eventually made us a better family. The heart sometimes needs to miss someone in order to know how it feels about them. Sometime my Mother and I both wish my Father would go away for a little while. I would not object to him take my husband with him as long as they come back. The one person who was able to get me to consider settling down was a former Marine. That I’m still married to after ten years and three children.
I have not had a single accomplishment that is worth writing about but I feel that my college completion will be one accomplishment that I will be most proud. I feel that I am taking one step forward in life that will make me become a more successful person.
What would happen if you were to reach a big goal that you set for yourself? Would you feel elated? For how many seconds, minutes, hours, or even days will you feel happy for? For a majority of us, the euphoric feeling isn’t going to last very long. Perhaps, the longest we will stay happy for is a month or sometimes more. It’s not like your goal has lost its meaning, but the mere fact that you were happy because the joy of achieving your goal and the feeling of being happy has subsided. Once the feeling fades, the next goal and the next achievement are in motion. Humans rarely ever feel completely content with where they are in life and when they feel that they’re happy when a certain situation happens, it doesn’t last too long it’s because people are always going to look for the next goal to pursue. During my life I had some accomplishments. But, I will tell you the truth I cannot call them as my great accomplishments. At this point of my life I had the two greatest events. My first event was my high school graduation. The second event, which was the biggest and the most unforgettable was my wedding day.
I remember the distinct feeling of admiration I felt as a child, when I watched my peers quickly complete the task I despised most. Although I was an active child, my heart would still involuntarily race and fill my chest with a dreaded burning sensation as I struggled to catch my breath throughout the duration of the task. It was apparent that I was out of my element of solving algebraic equations and conducting quirky science experiments, and expelled into the foreign world of athletics to complete the notorious mile run.
My greatest achievement took place when I was in eighth grade. It was when I became a master of the basics of Karate. It was when I had received my first degree black belt. I had taken Martial Arts for nine years before that and I was very excited to had finally gotten it.
I have made many achievements in my life. I am happy to be such an achiever at things. I remember my first achievement which was in kindergarten. In kindergarten I got on the honor roll for the first time. I was so happy, but I was just happy because my mom was happy. I didn’t even know what honor roll meant, but I finally founded out that is meant that I got all A’s. My mom was so happy for me, and I got lot of money for my A’s. After that my next achievement was that I learn how to ride a bike. When I first started to ride a bike with no training wheels I kept on falling. After I kept falling I didn’t want to learn anymore, but I saw that my little cousin was riding a bike, so I just had to learn how to ride a bike. Finally, after all the sores and burses, I learned how to ride a bike. I still fall every now and then.
