Introduction
The English word “worship” comes form two Old English words: weorth, which means “worth”, and ‘scipe’, which means something like shape or “quality”. Worship is the quality of having worth or of being worthy. When we as Christians worship, we are saying that God has worth, and that he is worthy. Everyone has their own opinions, thoughts and meaning of worship. The common and well known meaning is, the feeling or expression of respect and adoration for a supreme being. The bible says that worship is the humbling of yourself before Christ.

Worship to us Christians is a high priority. Worship is not just a song, or how much you give into the offering, or volunteering to serve. They are forms and acts of worship, but they don’t explain to us what true worship actually is. True worship in other words, is defined by the priority we place on who god is in our lives and where God is on our list of holiness. We declare worth, to attribute worth, or in other words, we praise God, we speak, or sing about how good and powerful our God is.

For me being apart of the youth worship band and having the privilege to lead people into worship and his presence, I don’t take it for granted, but humble myself and my heart every time before I go up, which I consider a big part of worship for me. Also serving on kids and hospitality on Sunday church services, I see as a part worship. Either it be stacking chairs or looking after kids, its still God’s house which needs to be taken care of. Also putting on some soft worship music at home, and worshipping god, blocking out all distractions by turning my phone and computer off and shutting my door. Giving god my time and full attention either it only be for a short amount of time, a bit of time with God is better than no time and can make a difference on your
Growing up in Jamaica, I enjoyed worship. I remembered looking forward to church. We clapped our hands and stomped our feet and made a joyful noise unto the Lord. We didn't have keyboards and drums. We clapped and sounded like timbrels. I remembered when I learned to testify and it helped me and several others to build our confidence. I would sing in the local churches when they have special events. I watched young people being filled with the Holy Ghost and I wanted it so badly that I would pray and ask God to give it to me. I remembered watching my mother and my sister speak in tongues and I so wanted to do it.
Prior to reading this book I have to be honest and say that I had some false conceptions about worship. That sounds kind of scary to say but, through this booked I learned again and at a deeper level the importance of living in communion with God.
I truly believe this is the place in my life I am being called, equipped, and gifted. I also believe it is where I most naturally fit when it comes to the requirements of the job description. My heart feels drawn towards creating unity in a team of creatives who are passionate about worshipping, creating, and leading people to the foot of the cross in worship. Worship music gives people the opportunity to express their heart to God in words that they may not have even known they needed to sing, but also unites the voice of the entire congregation and orients us together towards God. I don’t think there is a formula of how to lead people into worship, but I am so deeply intrigued by the different ways to lead congregations, and I believe worship is a place that is constantly changing and growing in new expressions and voice to give to the church. One part of this job description that I really appreciated was the correlation it expressed in planning worship sets in correlation with the senior pastor. I have not been in a worship position where I actually got to sit and pray through the worship sets with the senior pastor. In my experience the senior pastor has either told us what he wants and we do it, or he just gives us all the responsibility and does not really care how we lead the time. However, I truly believe communication with the senior pastor about worship can be one of the most edifying planning aspects for a meaningful worship service that leads people into worship, the spoken sermon, and response
In an age when culture continues to lower standards of intellect, Marva Dawn makes compelling observations and suggestions for the Church to rethink its’ strategy on impacting society. How do we evangelize without weakening the message of what we are communicating? The majority of her text focuses on the worship environment generally, but later she focuses on music, preaching, and liturgy specifically. According to Dawn, a gathering of believers should emphasize God as the subject and object of worship, challenge each individual to grow in godly character, and accentuate the community of believers (not only in the room, but throughout history as well). Through this grid, she encourages leaders and participants to evaluate each worship element. If these primary goals are accomplished, then worship will not be empty and simpleminded. Instead the worship atmosphere would be held to a higher standard and, she believes, both pleasing to God and attractive to those who do not know God.
Each religion has many different ways that worship, some may be public and some may be private. I have chosen to investigate the different forms of worship from Christianity and although both religions have similarities both of them are unique in their own way.
“Human beings are made for worship. Everyone worships someone or something” (Calhoun 2005). The above statement is so true. Some people worship money, themselves, other people or pagan Gods. As for me I worship God the Almighty Father of Heaven and Earth. “True worship of God happens when we put God first in our lives” (Calhoun 2005). Worship isn’t just singing at the beginning of a church service on Sunday. Worship is a daily surrender where we put God first in everything such as our marriage, work life, friendships, family, money, and lifestyle. Worship is where we totally surrender and trust God with everything in our lives.
into a richer experience of worship and a more effect life of service" (Crabb, 1977, p.31). The method to establishing an
The concept of God can be a difficult one to grasp especially in today's world - a world in which anyone that believes in God is trying to define exactly what God is. To even attempt to grasp such a concept, one must first recognize his own beliefs in respect to the following questions: Is God our creator? Is God omnipotent (all-powerful) or omniscient (all-knowing) or both? Does God care? Is God with us? Does God interfere with life on earth? These questions should be asked and carefully answered if one should truly wish to identify his specific beliefs in God's existence and persistence.
Today in the world…. people worship in some form of religion, be it in monotheistic religions like Christianity, Islam or Judaism; or a polytheistic religion like Mormonism or Hinduism. Worshipping a higher power is not a new development in our world. The desire to worship a higher power or powers have been inside of man since the very beginning of mankind. With the help of Ancient literature, we can trace the various forms of monotheism and polytheism that sprung up amongst our ancient ancestors to worship the higher power they venerated.
We learn these ways in the christian faith. We as Christians shall praise our God. Not all religions worship God, they worship other leaders, which isn’t right. “Praise
What is idol worship? There are many answers one might have to this question. Idol worship is anything that comes between a worshiper and God. It is anything that someone gives power or status to. Idol worship is the perishable while God is the imperishable. Arrogance towards God appears in the form of idol worship.
Many incidents relating to worshiping without sacrifice can be extracted from various kinds of situations. The most general idea of worshiping can be found between the relationship with God. If we go way back into the past according to the bible, God has shown many ways mankind should worship him. He has given us the Ten Commandments and disciples such as Psalm testify that we shall all rejoice the Lord with all our hearts. “Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. Know that the LORD is God. Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. (Psalm 100:1-5) However, another Bible verse from Isaiah gives an ex...
There are well over 90 verses in the Bible that discuss about worshiping God together as believers (97). In the 21st century, the only true pitfall that this discipline has is that there are churches with false teachers and prophets out there in
More people are there for the actual sermon I feel, because a lot of people don’t understand true praise and worship. What I have come to learn is Praise and worship, is a cleansing and realization of self, and what God has done for you and is not intended to be a “feel good” experience. This is a perfect example of how some worship experiences have been dumbed down to appease the masses. The worship experience should open our minds. It ought to go against the “character” offf a culture that takes for granted God and praise. Praise and worship is a different kind of relationship, which exists between man and God, a relationship of complete adoration and praise. Far too often, in this emerging new culture, we want to treat God as friend, and not as creator and sustainer. Humans are flawed fleshly beings, therefore whenever in the true presence of God a transformation from old to new should occur. We should feel so convicted about our transgressions until we have an earnest desire to change. The flesh dies and slowly loses control of our lives, leaving the Holy Spirit to
”Allah alone deserves worship and He alone can grant benefit as a result of His worship.” Naik, Z. (2016, March 31). Tawheed and its types. Retrieved from https://zakirnaikqa.wordpress.com/tag/tawheed-al-ibaadah/. Therefore worship of anything or anyone else instead of Allah or along with Allah is the gravest sin. Allah has clearly stated in the Quran, “I did not create the jinn and mankind except for My worship” (Surah 51:Verse 56). This was the essence of the message of the prophets. Worship is more than just praying, fasting, and the rest of the pillars of Islam. It includes emotions like love, trust and fear, all which the highest degrees are only for
