Hope is trusting something will work in your favor even though the situation may seem inconceivable. The dictionary’s definition is similar to mine, but with a little different connotation. “To want something to happen or be true and think that it could happen or be true.” I believe more goes into hope then wanting something to happen. For me there is a sense of opposition. To others it could be wanting a car for their birthday, but to me hope is there when the impossible begins to seem possible. There are certain situations in life that cannot be controlled. How can such a simple four letter word effect people in so many different ways?
I believe in everyone’s life the idea of hope is tested, for me it came at a very young age when the idea …show more content…

There is a large gap between what it means to me and what others perceive it as. No one is right or wrong that’s the beauty of an ambiguous word it can be taken in different ways. Hope has even deeper meanings to others. Personally I’m not religious, however religion is an important facet of life. There is a verb in the Hebrew language, qawa, which roughly translates to hope. In Psalms 25:21 it states, “May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope, Lord, is in you.” When you take hope in this way it has a completely different connotation. The hope of the follower is that in whatever situation God will come through and help them through any situation if they just believe. The word hope also ties in well with the idea of praying. I don’t partake in it but if someone needed to have an outlet when times are tough to supply some artificial hope I’m all for it. In an article I read by a heavily biased author may I add the differences in cultural and Christian hope as she called it were vastly different. In the article, “Cultural Hope vs Christian Hope: Which One Is Guaranteed Hope?” June Hunt states that “Cultural hope is merely an optimistic desire that something will be fulfilled. This hope is not a guaranteed hope because it is subject to changeable people and changeable circumstances.” She is blatantly bashing the idea of cultural hope in favor of her next idea. “Christian hope, on the other hand, is an optimistic assurance that something will be fulfilled. This hope is a guaranteed hope because it is anchored in Jesus Christ, the unchanging Son of God, and every unchanging promise found in His Word,” what is interesting to me is she doesn’t come close to entertaining the fact that hope cannot always be effective according to her hope is a guaranteed promise by Jesus Christ. She
