Defining Love: My Definition Of Love

There are numerous ways of defining love and anything associated with the word. I have yet to understand what love is and believe that I never will. Is it an emotion, a feeling, or is it both? These are the kind of questions that I am sure many people out there have and constantly get a different answer. Based on the discussion in class about love and interpersonal attraction, my understanding of love it that it is something we as humans need and crave in order to get by in life. The general question that people ask is “what is love?”. The answer to this question is never direct, rather it is and example or examples and explanations that lead to the understanding of the different things associated with love. I define love as an illusion that we create in order to say that we feel a certain way towards someone or something. It is a deep feeling that we develop internally and later show it to others. Love is a complicated subject to touch upon mainly because there is no right or wrong answer when dealing with it. There was an example made in class about how one is already comfortable with a family member but when put into a setting with others we do not know there is a sense of awkwardness. Why is it that we are not able to act the same way with someone we have known for let’s say a few days versus someone we’ve known a lot longer. It is this that makes me believe that love is a mental thing and not really existent. I can easily tell someone I 've just met that I love them and think nothing of it. I may not feel that way towards that person but maybe there was something that was done at the given moment that triggered me to say it.
